I was looking for a product to address the "skunk smell" my dog was experiencing. When I asked the cashier where to find the product he knew exactly where to send me. But I have to say I don't know how the clerk was able to tell me because he seemed so "loaded" on probably Marijuana, he could barely enunciate. He was pleasant, but did ask me to go get him a coffee at Costco, because their coffee has "30% caffeine.". He then said, "just kidding.". He was not unpleasant, but clearly impaired. Whatever you do please do not adopt from here! We have adopted two cats from here and both have had some serious medical issues. Petsmart will take no responsibilty because it is a animal rescue they allow to bring the animals for adoption. Unlike when Cal Poly ran the adoptions and much better organized with healthy animals. The new rescue clearly does not do the proper testing to be sure these pets are healthy enough for adoption. One of our kittens has FIP and so far after a lot of tests and finding a solution with no thanks to Petsmart or the animal rescue they allow in the store. We have spent thousands of dollars getting her better. Our other cat we adopted at Petsmart over a year ago suddenly became very ill. She started to have neurological issues and after 3 weeks of trying everything to save her we had no choice but to put her down. The vet believes it was something she had when we adopted her. Again no help or mention of this issue! As you can only imagine the toll this has taken on our family. Please adopt elsewhere so you don't have to go through the heartache we have with our fur babies. read more

On 3/10/26 at 12;45 pm we picked up dog treats and dog food and ALMOST left it at the checkout and walked away. The woman at the cash register was soooo busy giving her schedule to another patron as if they were chatting away at a cafe! We waited and waited for this conversation to end. Cashier saw us standing there, listening to her convo. Think that mattered? The convo was strictly personal, not about pets or PetSmart related. Super annoying! She had almost no response, and what she gave was barely audible I know this happens with fish, I'm not saying it's 100% on the employees when they don't make it but I would think they'd show at least a modicum of concern, if not for the appearance of their product then for the health of the other fish in the tank! I bought a fish at this store but it died before the second day. I went back to get another (guarantee for 14 days). The gal who retrieved the fish did such a slick and smooth, untraumatic job removing the fish. She didn't use a net but the natural flow of water entering the catch container. Pet smart is not kind to animals. All they care about is greed. They have a cockatiel bird that has been alone in a cage for the past 5 months. Why has she been in there for five months? They have her priced at $400. Nobody in their right mind is going to pay $400 for a cockatiel bird. I went to the manager last week when I saw that this bird was getting more more depressed with her little head bow down, and I said nobody's going to pay $400 for a cocktail. Her reply "I know "I offered to pay $200 even though that's still above market price for a little cockatiel, but I didn't want her to be sad and depressed me by the way, her name is Bridget, Bridget told me that it wasn't up to her. It was up to corporate for me to come back the next day. The next day I came back, Bridget was not on duty. Another band was when I told her I had spoken to Bridget about lowering the price of this poor little bird, she looked at me and said somebody will pay the 400. It's almost Christmas, it was October 10. I went out to the car and called corporate myself they said and I quote it's not up to how much Petsmart wants to sell the bird for if they would like to lower the price they can" I waited till the next day to speak to Bridget, when I did, she coldly told me corporate is not going to lower the price. I had already spoken to corporate and they were very clear that it was up to the store. Petsmart does not give a shit about animals. The greed is outrageous. Shame on you Petssmart. The entire staff was welcoming, kind & professional. Trusting someone with your beloved pet difficult. Don't judge a book by its cover... I have never had a dog that needed to be groomed before so when I started looking I was having a hard time finding someone that was available. My friend who is a very picky poodle owner said to go to Claire at PetSmart...I was a bit hesitant to be honest. Claire was amazing! She did just what I asked. My puppy is 13 weeks and I just wanted a mini groom. To say I am impressed, not only with the quality but the price as well is an understatement. While I waited, I wondered the store and found it to be very clean and well stocked. I was given some advice on puppy food by a nice young man and all the other staff was very friendly. We brought our dog in for a simple brush out. She's a double coated husky mix. We explained we were fine with however long it took to do a good job. We barely made it out of the parking lot before we were called back that she was done. When we went to get her, there was indeed a schnauzers worth of hair on the floor and she looked pretty bare. Her coat felt a little more coarse than usual. We paid and took her home. When we got her out side it became pretty obvious that a furminator blade on her. These types of combs should not be used on double coated dogs and explains why it only took ten mins to brush her out. You can see the track marks down her back from where the comb cut her guard hairs. The ruff on her neck was also very full before, but is now nearly bald and a bit pink in one spot. I debated writing this review, but in the end... a groomer should know what tools to use and more importantly which ones not to use. Sure, she got brushed out super quick, but at what cost to her? It's going to take some time for her guard hairs to grow, and for her undercoat to come back in. read more

I usually expect a markup here but I was pleased to find the brand I was looking for competitively priced. Be forwarned - check the ring up prices when paying. Beware! They injured our Australian Shepard while he was being groomed here! We had to take him to the vet and he had to have surgery, putting us out $700. Petsmart hasn't done anything to help us with this issue even though our vet said clearly it was a grooming issue. We have on paper via the vet that this issue arose right after he was groomed. They haven't even offered to comp us the $70 grooming cost. Absolutely insane. Very dissapointed with corporate and the local business for not doing anything. read more

My favorite chain pet shop in San Luis Obispo! Their employees go WAY above & beyond any reasonable expectations. Way. They've recently had a great selection of birds, including the pretty standard parakeets & finches, but they also recently had a conure (be still my heart), and a cockatiel. Their staff is not just college kids looking for a part time job, but includes people who are passionate & knowledgeable about animals, like Ryan, who specializes in guinea pigs, and Lily who can help you out with a beta purchase. They also work with a local feline rescue group, so they always have adoptable cats, and on weekends they have a canine rescue set-up in front of the store with dogs & puppies available for adoption! I live in Santa Maria and wanted to get a turtle called the stores before going and San Luis was the only place that had a turtle. We walk straight to the turtles and it was hard to tell one was in there cause they barely clean the glass. I was waiting to talk to the associate Jake that was helping a lady but after talked to her about the beach and after he was done he wasn't gonna ask me for help I had to get his attention. I told him I wanted the turtle and he told me the tank I have is too small for the turtle and I would be abusing the animal and doesn't want to sell me the turtle cause he wants the turtle to have a "striving" life.I asked how long they are gonna be in the tank they are in right now cause it's a 10 gallon tank that's not even right for the turtle for 6-8 months. After he told me no he wouldn't sell me the turtle. I asked him if he was the manager and he said no. I went to the front register and asked for the manager while I was doing that he came up to the front of the store still yelling and trying to get his point over but the manager comes over and I told him what happened the associate Jake kept telling me to go get a turtle in AG. He even told me they have bad breed for the turtles and the managers face was like oh fuck. The manager told me he wouldn't sell me me it and offered me 10% discount when I get everything right when they don't even have the turtle in the right tank and have 6-8 months to get a bigger one. If they didn't want to sell me the turtle cause of that then you guys should have a sign you need to have all this to take care of this animal cause if you don't. You know, normally I don't like going to petsmart unless I need to because I've heared and seen lot of bad things about petsmart (not this one specifically) but I had to go in today to try to find a UVB light for my pall python because nowhere else had them. As I went up to the register to check out, an employee named jake let me know that there were better options for cheaper (this is my first time owning a snake) once I told him I was doing a bio active tank he helped me find everything i needed, give me tips on switching a snake from live feeder rats to frozen/thawed, and even recommended me a app to keep up with my snakes health and feeding cycle! First experience with PetSmart grooming for my mature yellow lab Gracie was mostly positive. Booking was easy; and when I had to change time slot on a hot, holiday week, they were very accommodating. I appreciated them following up on the phone to confirm. Gracie got a bath, undercoat brush, nails and teeth. Total was $72. As Gracie did not take the blow dryer, she had to kennel dry for a long time before brushing. So the entire service was over 3 hours. If they could expedite that and allow final check out at the grooming center, they may get 5 stars in the future. read more

The people that work here are great, I've found every obscure thing I've ever needed for my train-wreck-of-a-cat here (Victorian collar, urinary-tract-friendly kibble, specific tri-feathered play toy, etc. etc. etc. ...why do I deal with this damn cat?), AND they have insanely adorable adoptable cats in case you want to fantasize about swapping yours in for a new model. JK, of course, but I do love that Cal Poly is able to run cat adoption out of this store. Huge karma points there. Not a full five because I can find better prices on Amazon a lot of the time, but in a pinch, PetSmart hasn't failed me yet. Next cat-astrophe, I'll be back. read more

Wow! I took my nieces & nephews to PetSmart today just to kill some time. We asked if we could pet the cats & the nicest dude, Patrick, took us into the little cat petting room. He told us a little about the 3 kitties there & basically let the 5 of us roam around touching the cats. Afterward we saw a woman feeding the guinea pigs & hamsters. My nieces asked to hold one & she happily accepted. She was also very nice. She helped my niece so the guinea pig wouldn't run away. Then my nephew asked to hold a bird. This awesome lady explained that the birds can't really be held but she let him go inside the employee feeding area & see them up close. I don't have animals or any reason to go to PetSmart so having this experience as my only time there was so awesome! Thank you to the awesome team for making my nieces & nephews' days! Three of the six cans of dog food I purchased for my puppy last week expired over a year ago in MARCH 2020. I only figured this out when my puppy began having uncontrollable diarrhea and vomiting. Now I will have to spend over $200 at a vet appointment because of someone's negligence. My dog is very sick and I can't even get to a vet until tomorrow. I am absolutely disgusted with this locations ability to provide safe products to its customers. read more

Good 'ole Petsmart. No matter where I am I have always been able to rely on this store to get me by with my pet needs. The variety of their stock is decent and with the best pricing around, it's a for sure stop for my pup and kitten. Comparing to the other pet stores in the area, 9 out of 10 times, this is the store you want to go to for the lowest price. I have price checked food, toys, and grooming supplies and have had the most luck at PetSmart. The staff is friendly and I have had good experiences with them. One that sticks out in my mind is when the cashier mentioned the nail clippers I was buying (I think it is the Bamboo brand) were terrible and often split the nail. He instead suggested another pair that were very plain, but also VERY cheap. He reassured me that despite its looks and price, it was capable of performing beautifully and the groomers at the store use them. I appreciated his input and for turning me away from $14 nail clippers to the $4 ones instead. It's nice to know the staff rather make less money than let customers purchase a bad product. I took off a star because they are SOME products that are priced widely high. Their dog beds are super expensive, even when they are onsale. I would recommend going to Costco and grabbing one of their pet beds instead. The other star is because I wish their Nylabone section was a BIT larger. I'm currently raising a puppy that can only play with toys from an approved list and besides normal bones, they lack some of the more interesting ones, so that's a little disappointing. read more
