Madina is a simple restaurant, very casual, but effective, serving tasty food at sensible prices. The location is great, really central right by Capel St., and they stay open until relatively late (yey!). This is the best Indian food I've tried in Dublin yet. Very hearty and tasty, bold enough with the spices and a great menu with some of my favourite dishes in it - I particularly like their bhindi bhaji and the delicious fresh naan. It's also one of the few places with decent vegetarian options that don't taste like some leftover curry minus the meat. Service here lies somewhere between abrupt and faintly friendly, depending on the waiters and their mood on that day. It may also take them a while to either get to you or bring out your food. The silver lining is they won't be pestering you once you're eating or simply finishing up your conversation. Besides the restaurant itself, you can also order to take away/delivery, a good alternative if you're tired of the (bland) likes of Bombay Pantry.

Madina might resemble a take-away from the outside but inside the food is some of the tastiest and most authentic in town. The interior is a touch too bright, the chairs may be reminiscent of a school canteen's, but sit upstairs for a great view of the Bollywood, multi-tiered, disco-ball chandelier (picture included!) The varied menu includes some creative descriptions with many references to 'mother's' cooking', lending a nice personal touch. Happily for you vegetarians out there you'll find as many options as your meat eating friends. The menu is split down the middle 50/50, there's equality for you! Peppered throughout the menu are extra value deals, like 'Curry in a Hurry', which comprises your choice of meat in that days special curry, drink and rice/naan for 9.95, and makes a good express option if you're trying to squeeze in a quick bite before running to catch a film at Cineworld around the corner (Parnell St) For starters we ordered onion bhaji and meat samosa. The bhaji was lightly spiced with sweet chili sauce, and unlike some luminous offerings I've had before was relatively grease free. The samosa filling was a little dry but came with a spicy chickpea salad, yogurt sauce and a tasty dark fruit chutney. They certainly filled the gap nicely. Madina is the only place in Ireland to serve the 'Dosa' according to their menu. These are a Southern Indian speciality. Dosa is a light, thin, fluffy, fried pancake made from the rice and lentil flour, roughly the size of a broadsheet newspaper! Served with bowls of fresh coconut chutney and a vegetable dahl. Inside the folds of this pancake hides a mild potato and green bean curry, watch out for the whole chillies though! Forget your table manners with the dosa and get stuck in with your hands, this is quite fun to eat! The lamb tikka kebab was dry and lacked for sauce, only being served with a small side salad. I think it's best to leave the kebabs to Zaytoon's et al, here the curry is king, and they do it well. Currys are available mild or hot, but be warned when they say hot they mean it. A negotiation with your waiter may provide a happy medium, but eer on the side of caution. Sadly there is no alcohol on the premises, and the fruit beers are best avoided to say the least. There's a range of soft drinks, juices and lassis available. Madina is a great spot for a post or pre cinema meal. It's only a few doors down from Penny's so could provide a good rest stop when shopping on Henry Street. Or as a break from getting your DIY or Antiques fix on Capel Street. I'll be back next time I'm in a panic on where to bring that vegetarian friend and I'll be sticking to the tried and tested 'Curry in a Hurry' and the delicious Dosa.

Mmmmmm. Good, affordable Indian food! Even though it looks small outside, it's a two story restaurant. Foodwise, everything was delicious. We ordered chicken tikka masala, chicken biryani, and naan bread. Chicken Tikka- between the sweet and spicy option,I chose sweet and I loved it! Very mild and it has a creamy sauce. It was as good as the one where I usually eat in California so it definitely reminded me of home. Biryani- filling and pairs well with the side of curry sauce that comes along it it. Naan- I give them kudos for cooking it perfectly! No burns or charcoal patches like other places I've been to. Service wise- it was okay. Our server was nice, but once the place was busy, it was difficult to get her to pass by our table to ask for anything. When we asked for the bill, she informed us that we had to pay downstairs. Kind of annoying because she could've informed us earlier rather than making us wait a good 30 minutes just to tell us that. Despite that, I'd come back again to try the rest of the menu!

Prshwari naan, masala dosa and lamb biryani. All delicious and a gorgeous takeaway meal!

So this spot seems pretty alright. It's literally around the corner from where I work so I popped in to get a take away because I was sick of eating the usual stuff and was in the mood for a decent curry. The only real issue I had with this place was the staff. I checked in before visiting as I noticed there was 10% off the meal but when I got there I was informed that it was only for students which wasn't specified when I showed my student card the waitress mumbled smiled and walked away. It was only for a few quid so I let it lie. However if I was eating in here I could see serious issues arising with the level of service as I have also seen being an issue for previous yelpers who visited the establishment. Other than that the food was super tasty and only charged around 20 quid for a massive feast for myself and my colleague. Really tasty and not too greasy. Enjoyed the hell out of the lamb biryani and the masala dosa. Icing on the cake was the peshwari naan! All in all a good and hearty meal but I wouldn't go to this place to sit in for fear of the terrible service I would receive!

Best place to take somebody on out a date. She will start licking the food off of you.

Great to dinner! Curry, naan and rice!

I tried during these months other curries and I confirm you this is the best Indian restaurant in town! Try the mango Lassi as well, absolutely a must!

Being an American I've heard plenty about how South Asian cuisine is better across the pond. Being…read morea fan of Asian food in general I was determined to try Indian cuisine at least once during my trip. Considering how expensive it is to eat in Dublin and considering how close this was to my hotel I had this twice and was impressed with my food both times! The restaurant space is quite small to eat in and most of their orders are for takeaway. The plastic containers used for takeaway is quite sturdy and I'd be reusing them again if I was a local. Service was great. They threw in a single piece of veggie samosa for good measure as a typical order comes in a set of 3. They even put in a little chutney sauce for dipping. There's plenty of potato and some peas in the samosa. I ordered one chicken and one lamb dish. I love spicy curries so I ordered the curries that come naturally spicy. The curries are made to order so expect at least a 10 minute wait while they cook your dish. - Chicken Madras (Curry from southern coast of India cooked with fresh coconut and curry leaves, €10.50). Madras is a British interpretation of curry found in South India. It is red due to the chili powder and there's usually a "milk" base to it, similar to Thai curries. The chicken pieces are big and there's plenty of curry left over to finish the rice. - Lamb Jalfrezi (Stir-fried lamb with onions, peppers and tomato flavoured with carom seeds, Stir-fried lamb with onions peppers and tomato flavoured with carom seeds, €11.50). Jalfrezi is Indian-Chinese made spicy because the meat is cooked usually with green peppers and onions. This dish was properly spicy and there's a good amount of lamb meat. There was enough curry left over to finish the rice. This was made by the suggestion of a local who overheard me asking for a recommendation for preferred lamb curries as I had chicken. This is reasonably priced comfort food considering how expensive it can be to eat out in Dublin. If this were in the US this would easily be my go-to place for Indian food to go.

Everything we tried was super tasty, the spices were balanced, the presentation was great, and not too spicy for our pallet. Chicken Biryani rice (€29.9), with a bready top that was taken off by the server, side of yogurt, side of masala sauce. Super tasty dish 10/10. Potato cake appetizer (€13.5), super tasty, it was topped with complementary sauces, well balanced between savory, sour, and tart. Excellent appetizer. Puri Chaat? (€15), They didn't list it on the menu, I asked for it and the chef was nice enough to create it for me. Super tasty and not too spicy We also go the slow cooked Wicklow lamb to go (€28.5), the meat was super tender, the flavors were excellent, some of the best Indian flavored lambs I've ever tried. The price for two people without drinks is (€104.65), which is on the pricy side, but the flavors and experience was worth it. All in all, I tried this place about 6 years ago and it was great and I tried it again and they still kept their high quality tasty food. Definitely recommend

I visited their Camden St. location which is an area of Dublin that's buzzing with restaurants. Other more highly rated Indian restaurants (which were also more expensive) were all booked up, and I'm glad they were, since Diwali was right up our alley for tastes as they provided delicious food and excellent service. The music was great, and decor just right for ambiance. Meals start off with complimentary papadum and various chutneys, which is always appreciated. For drinks, we got the mango lassi and Cobra beer. The mango lassi had the perfect yogurt and mango accents without being too sweet, and was better than even the highly rated restaurants we went to in London. The Cobra beer was decent with regards to flavor. We tried the onion bhaji and chicken pakora to start off. The onion bhaji was a little bit oily, but great in taste and presentation, leaving us wondering how it was made as it was a pull apart variety while still preserving the chickpea batter accent with each bite. The chicken pakoras were also good, with a batter spiced just right. For main course, we ordered the butter chicken along with pulau rice and a naan. Nothing groundbreaking with regards to recipe, but just fresh and delicious food for these items. The pulau rice was better than plain basmati rice, and naan was a thin, but very generous portion. The food was so good that we returned a second night after being indecisive on where to go for dinner. The manager noticed us and provided us with mango lassi and a sampling of an aloo dish on the house, thanking us for being repeat guests. I love it when management shows such a genuine appreciation for customers like that. Service was attentive and on top of their game throughout both our visits. I'd recommend a visit to the Camden Street location of Diwali Indian Restaurant when in the mood for delicious Indian food when in Dublin.

Well.. I do say…read more. That was simply the best meal I've had out in donkeys years. Truly the dogs pyjamas. It's no wonder it's in the Michelin guide, no Burger King or kebab Princesses here, let me tell ye. Not the usual 3 in 1 I got for, but this night was a special occasion.. a celebration of love and good fortune of which I am eternally grateful. A ham sanger and a wank would not suffice this Valentines Day to be sure to be sure. I brought my love through the open legs of Ananda and up to her warm bosom for an Indian embrace. All in after a tamarind cocktail to lube us up for an evening of meat slapping and spicey divilment. It was Saint Valentines birthday, after all.. Another entrée young Rajesh! We were here to spend. I had just landed a new high paying role with a formidable company and was in a feckless mindset brought on by the sexual ambience and perky nature of my lover. The service was uplifting, they hilariously all wait patiently about 2 foot away so as not to intrude and wait to be called, even though they know exactly when ye need another cocktail. Lol. Makes you feel like a real (Burger) King summoning his servants to dispose of your freshly filled nappies. Another tequila young squire! The food..a delight for all the senses, "tudo perfeito," my luscious Latin lady would later go on to whisper in my ear at the nightly climax. Usually, I'd fill a doggy bag to bring home for Max, but on this occasion, we left the plates emptier than a french synagogue in 1943. Massive portions busting with more spice than the brasserie in front of me around my wifes neck desperately trying to secure in her enormous tits. Fuck! And the dessert? Awf.. shtap. It was like sucking the Easter rabbits nipples drizzled in chocolate syrup. Take my money! I demand to pay! And pay we did. Then, a quick nip to the ol' head for a pipe squirt and a tingley poop as per usual after a west End Indian, not this time, though. Even my farts smelled like freshly cooked rosewater, cinnamon, and saffron biscuits. Needless to say.. when we got home, I took my partner's unmentionables off one leg at a time, persevered, sweated, and reached the tunnel of solitude until.. ugh.. silent grace and a peaceful dawn befell unto me, and we reached a sense of true oneness. Thank you, Mr Ananda, for more than just a meal, a new outlook on existence itself. For you I will gladly sleep in a wet patch.
