The Madison Animal Hospital is a safe place for animals who need medical attention. They are warm, knowledgeable and treat my Kitten, SugarSam with respect and love. He always feels special there. There are not too many places that have such customer service skills and positive attitude towards the animal and their owners, but I too feel heard when I come there. I wish i could give zero stars. The vet techs who work there are lovely, but aside from that the entire practice is focused only on profits and not animals. They are very difficult to work with and i feel they intimidate owners and try to instill fear. I dislike the fact that they bring animals to a "back room' for treatment so i have no idea what they are doing. Dr. Day continually makes snide remarks about my dog because he is on the larger side. I have had my turtle for over 13 years. I came home one day to find that she was barely alive. I instantly looked to the internet to find that Madison Animal Hospital has doctors who specializes in exotic animals like, reptiles. When I called (in a panic) they were extremely kind and told me they could see me right when I got there. When I arrived they instantly took my turtle to the back examination room. Throughout my two back to back visits it was clear that the Madison Animal Hospital staff cared deeply about my turtle Shannon. I owe a great thanks to Dr. Andy Anderson whom without his care and generosity my turtle suffering from pneumonia, a blood infection, and a calcium deficiency would not have survived. read more

Kind people but never have openings in an emergency. Having a new puppy you have questions and emergencies and want to get help the same day but they are never staffed enough to be able to get us in. Often they have an apointment in 5-7 days but that doesnt help quick enough. Under the care club plan the visits are free but is it worth it when you're having to go to another vet in the meantime everytime your primary vet cant get you in? Not worth it in my opinion and very expensive comapred to other vets. read more

We visited Madison Animal Hospital for the first time in the fall of 2016 for the free first visit included with our newly adopted kitten. We lucked out when we were assigned Dr. Pamela Scheuch! She has always treated our Alex with care and love. He's a troublemaker kitten even though he's 3.5 years old now! We always book our appointments with Dr. Scheuch, and since she's a cat owner herself, she can lend a lot of insights and give advice for his ongoing health. i used this business for over a year until I started going somewhere else because I wanted a second opinion on a possible condition my dog had. I began using the other Vet as my main Vet and realized he was much cheaper then Madison Animal Hospital. I didn't get charged for a check up every time I went in for a specific issue, unlike with Madison. Madison charges way too much and they suggest expensive treatments that aren't usually necessary. The staff was never a problem and I will say the Vets have been great, especially Dr Annese. She is great with animals and really cares about them. But the fact that whomever is running the business feels that it's important to squeeze every penny out of it's customers is a huge turnoff. I'm local and have gone in for minor things that required immediate attention and walked out with a huge bill. It's just not right. Only worth it in extreme emergency, but make sure you bring lots of cash. read more

Before my career and during college I worked as a vet tech- having that experience and working with a number of vets I can say this hospital is over priced. We moved to Chatham last summer and we have 2 dogs (this review is only for ONE dog). We wanted the simplicity of a close vet. We saw this online and read some of the bad reviews and sometimes you always have to try a place out for yourself and make your own judgements. I must say this is one of those times we should have stuck with with the other customers reviews and went to a different vet. We went in for shots and culture analysis for our 1 year old. Looking at the final numbers after all said and done it is difficult to understand how we paid over $540.00 in 2-3 weeks. They charged us $64 for 2 follow up visits which did not require to see the vet. We have one last follow up shot in which they told us to come back in 3 weeks. They said they need to charge us a full visit amount and the tech could NOT simply do the shot and the actual vet needed to do it because it was more than a 2 week time span since they last saw our dog, REALLY? Shots, flu, lyme, urine test, urine analysis, urin culture, another urine analysis, fecal analysis...This is for a one year old dog! We called around other vets and got quotes and would have paid a TOTAL of roughly $250-350... We have come to realize there are enough vets around Florham Park, Madison, Morris Plains area in which they will not take your pockets for a ride! Look at these reviews...HOW can you not see a pattern of how this business operates? If you have money to burn then this is the place for you. They are a well-trained sales organization that services sick pets. They are overpriced and it feels like a business more than a medical office. With that said, the Vet we have seen here has been very solid. Dr. Day is compassionate, and you can tell she loves her profession. The other doctors? Well, I was charged $65 for a check-up where the doctor literally did not touch my dog. No contact. Also tried to push medications that were ineffective, and we left with no follow-ups or advice to move forward with. Not money well spent. I can't say enough about the compassion and care we experienced this week from Dr. Day and the entire staff. On Monday night, our sweet 14-year old cat, Calvin, suddenly couldn't move his back legs. Even though it was 7:15pm, the stafff told us to come right over. Calvin had been otherwise doing great so this was a huge surprise. As Dr. Day soon discovered, our boy had some terrible heart issues that had gone undiagnosed. We had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down since he was in pain and having breathing trouble. It was pure and utter agony, but Calvin was given gentle and great care from the minute we walked in. The staff all stayed long after closing, and they were all, without exception, kind and concerned. That was one of the absolute worse nights of my life, and I'm still reeling over the sudden loss of the kindest, gentlest, sweetest cat that ever lived. But my fiancee and I both are so grateful for the way we were all treated--with respect, kindness and compassion--by Dr. Day and every last person in the office that night. read more

I took my cat here because of a urinary obstruction. They were the only clinic open / that had available beds. They gave me a rough estimate of what hospitalization would cost (a high and low end) and what surgery would cost (high and low end). I was surprised to find out that I was being charged double what I was quoted (on the high end). I never received an updated statement regarding how much was owed until I pulled in to pick up my car. if i could i would give them 0 stars! ive been coming here for 5 years with my dogs and my family had been coming for over 10 years with our family dog.. in the begining we loved it here but since dr armenti left it had been nothing but headaches, the front desk/ whole staff is rude and they talk about people when they leave. ive seen it first hand. the front desk and doctors dont communicate and in the recent events i had with my 2 yr old dog claiming she had bladder stones, putting her under anesthesia before doing another xray to see if they were there ( dr Originally said they were too big to pass ) was unnecessary. the doctor was going off of another doctors notes and didnt bother to perform another xray. did not see any stones on xrays and confirmed it with another vet. it was a severe uti. wasted my time and money staying here! all they care about is money! do not go here!!!!! read more

We adopted a cat from Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter and they gave us a free vet visit coupon to use at this vet place, Madison Animal Hospital. I dont know how many vet visits it took me for them to not know how to properly diagnose my cat's Irritable Bowl Syndrome. After, purchasing every medicine that they recommended nothing worked. I decided to switch to Rockaway Animal Hospital and they were able to narrow down my cat's issues and they finally diagnosed her with IBS within 2 vet visits. I like how they didn't push me to give my cat any medicine yet until they figured out what was wrong with her, unlike Madison Animal Hospital. After the visit from Rockaway Animal Hospital my cat has been feeling a lot better. No more bloody poops, no more dry flaky skin and her fur is finally glossy and shiny! I was at my witt's end and very upset because before switching vets nothing seemed to work for my cat. Plus this vet's fees are expensive and I would've been happy to pay, but nothing was working for my cat! I read the reviews for this vet place and I didn't pick up on how sales oriented the place was. But looking back at our experience, I feel like this statement is true and we stopped going here for that very reason. I am a long time client at Madison Animal Hospital. I've always appreciated their help with all my pets. But my most recent visit was just not what I expected..... I had called around 7pm on Tuesday night because my 12 pound pup ate a bag of chocolate, I called to let them know I was coming in and that this was an emergency. I arrived about 5 minutes later and walked in, was not greated, and over heard a phone conversation complaining that I was coming in so late. I also heard the front desk women apologize to who ever she was on the phone as if it was a burden I came in. I stood there for about 5 minutes before another front desk attendant came. I went right up to her and she said "oh your the emergency". A technician came out right away and took my pup from me and put me in a room. I then talked to a technician and the doctor letting them know as much info about my dog as I could. When I went to pay, again, the lady at the front desk was anything but helpful. I had a few questions she could not answer and seemed to be completely annoyed by me. Overall, I have a very uncomfortable experience with this visit. It very upsetting to me especially because I have been a client for so long. read more

I did not have a positive experience at Madison and would not recommend it. The staff was not friendly or caring. Pushed tests which weren't necessary (always ask how important tests are). After sharing the dog's poor prognosis, they took the dog back for blood work and had me wait in the lobby. It took way longer than it should have and I could hear him barking/likely crated. If you weren't ready to draw the blood, come get him when you are. If you're done, bring him back. The poor prognosis wasn't their fault, but they could have been more considerate and empathetic after they gave us this information rather than sending me to the lobby and him to the back. There are other very good vets in the area, I would recommend going somewhere else. I keep receiving their marketing emails after unsubscribing multiple times. I'm not coming back - stop sending me emails and throwing salt in the wound. read more

I have been bringing my various pets to MAH for many years and have always received excellent and compassionate care for my animals. My experiences with Dr. Saunders for my dogs and Dr. Anderson for my birds and hamster have been tops. I see many people complain about cost of testing, etc, but veterinary care has improved greatly over the years and our animals live longer with more advanced care. The vets are more than willing to discuss options if you ask. I have lot less money than many of their clients but I always budget for their needs however unexpected. Dr. Frank was great and really seems to care about animals. He took his time with me and my dog and gave us some answers and suggestions on how to help with her skin problems. I have a greyhound, and he is very knowledgable with that breed as he's owned them in the past. Dr. Frank made it a point to not charge us anymore than was needed and to not do any unnecessary tests. This should have posted last year, didn't realize it didn't. I was initially impressed but then additional visits caused my impression to change Not only do they charge you for a "waste fee" they also have high rates, they want you to do a fecal sample every time you go and expect it when you bring in a pet with immediate needs that have nothing to do with BM's. When I am in with an immediate need, I don't need a lecture on the importance of fecal testing. Really? It is a cat that never leaves the house and the cat had an eye issue - pretty sure the fecal sample wasn't going to help out. On this particular visit I had to wait a very long time so plan to wait. I was left waiting 15 mins after my appointment start time before being told the vet was running late and would be another 10-15 mins late only to then be a total of 45 mins late.....details on lateness should be passed on when you check in, not when you ask how much longer. The irony was that they had a 3PM and a 3:45 - I picked the 3PM and wasn't see until after 3:45pm - I didn't have THAT much time to be hanging out waiting. Over the course of using them I was left feeling that they are more concerned with creating charges than paying attention to the animal. They want to sell services regardless of the condition your pet is in....like the other reviewer I plan to find a new vet....I don't think twice about spending money on my pets but I won't pay for more than I should. The final straw on the place was trying to use a gift certificate they had sent me as a customer. The expiration date was slightly off (1 wk) and I asked up front if it could be used, one clerk said there shouldn't be an issue (they sent it to me) but the other clerk wasn't sure when it came time to check out and then said she couldn't do it - how did I go from no issue to sorry we won't take it?? My dog has a complicated history and Dr. E took his time, couldn't have been more thorough or conservative and answered every one of my questions. He was not concerned about getting me in and getting me out, he was focussed on making my dog healthy. I am very glad that I found Madison Animal Hospital and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a good place to take their furry family members. He is also very responsive, both via telephone and email. The other staff members at the clinic are also wonderful, taking a genuine interest in the health and well being of our guinea pig crew. I brought my dog into Madison because she had a stuffy nose and we were going to be going away in 10 days so I wanted to make sure she wasn't getting sick. Lucy had cancer in her thyroid that had spread to her chest but overall she was a happy dog with life left in her. The doctor who treated her that day, Dr. Erdman, was the doctor who found most of her cancer. When he walked in I told him about her cold. He starts looking at her eyes and says, "I'm trying to decide what tests to run on her eyes". Lucy's eyes had been rolling back a bit in her head due to what we guessed was a brain lesion. Her vision had not been affected. She was doing fine. I told Dr. Erdman that Dr. Day who had seen her a few months back felt she more than likely had a brain lesion and we both agreed in the scheme of all her cancer to leave it alone. Dr. Erdman said he wanted to run tests on her eyes. I started to become very annoyed because I brought her in for a runny nose so why are we looking for problems that don't exist in a dog with cancer. I let the whole thing continue because I felt like what kind of dog owner am I to not let the doctor do his thing. He came back in an announced she doesn't have glaucoma or some other issue but she does have dry eyes. He prescribed antibiotic drops and I left with the drops and an antibiotic for the cold I had originally brought her in for in the first place. 2 days later the office calls to see how she is doing as they typically do. I told the office manager than I'm completely frustrated by the aggressive manor in which they treat Lucy when I go there. I told her Lucy's eye's seem irritated from the drops and frankly I have no idea why these meds where even needed. She told me she would speak with Dr. Day who I mentioned was the only doctor I liked there because her treatment style was way less aggressive. She called me back and said Dr. Day felt that was a typical symptom and I should continue using the drops, they'd be good for her. Day 7 I gave her the drops and she stood up and started banging into the walls. I was horrified. I gave her a few minutes to recover and nothing changed. I rushed her back to Madison and yet a new doctor, Dr. Anderson took her into the back area and then came back in and announced she was blind. I was dumbfounded. I told him how angry I was and he just kept saying I'm sorry, I understand. I rushed her to Fairfield emergency care and they confirmed she was blind. 2 days later we put Lucy to sleep. I firmly believe this should not have happened. I have nothing but anger for this place. They have very smart doctors that treat animals in a very aggressive manner in my opinion. I had numerous other experiences there including a surgery where they overcharged me $375 for both anesthesia and sedation. When I called them on it a week later they apologized and thanked me for pointing it out and then quickly credited me. I will stand behind Dr. Day as the only Dr. there I would ever trust and I have heard this as well from 2 other customers who have used Madison. Had I seen her she would have NEVER started testing her eyes. Regardless they will never again treat a pet of mine. We have since adopted a new dog and take her to a different practice. read more

I've recently brought my rabbit to the Madison Animal Hospital after he had an enlarged, swollen belly, wasn't eating or drinking, and was extremely lethargic. I am certain that this happened to him overnight as he was fine and healthy the night prior. This has also happened once before directly after his neutering during which I had a different vet--unfortunately I have since moved and was unable to go to my trusted vet. He had prescribed me antibiotics, supplemental food, pediatric gasx for what he thought was a gas bubble and my little guy bounced back in a day with continued proper care. Dr. Saunders of Madison assured me that this was NOT in fact the same complications (despite the fact that she had never seen my rabbit the first time this happened), insisted on an expensive X-Ray and ultimately concluded that we euthanize him in lieu of an expensive surgery that he may not survive due to his delicate body. With all due respect, I understood that she was the doctor, but knowing my pet and how he handled what seemed like the exact situation in the past, I was not willing to put him to sleep. I am 22 years old albeit very young looking, I am not naive. She was condescending and unwilling to entertain the possibility that this may in fact be the same problem as last time. It was not until my mother showed up that she changed tune and even offered the option of letting me take him home. My rabbit is now home, I nursed him with the leftover supplies from my original vet and he is happy and healthy. I am never going back to the Madison Animal Hospital. read more

I moved to Far Hills last year and still make the trip to Madison Animal Hospital, where I love all of the vets and staff. I've never waited more than 5-10 minutes but am usually taken in moments after I sit down. The staff is courteous and professional. The doctors are wonderful, but you will really see them shine when you have a critically ill pet. They have no problem conferring with one another or if it's out of their area of expertise, they will call area specialists to see who can fit you in ASAP. A year ago, my tiny, old Maltese Louie seemed to have a neurological event, and so he was treated accordingly. When he didn't seem to be getting better, one of the doctors recommended acupuncture with Dr. Anderson. I was desperate to try anything. Louie couldn't walk without falling over. He couldn't bend his head down to eat or drink. He had stopped barking or shaking himself off because the head motion gave him excruciating pain. After only one acupuncture treatment, Louie was able to walk several steps without falling down. By the third treatment, he was walking, eating, drinking, barking, shaking himself out, and being very spunky. We did one more treatment for good measure and determined he must have injured his neck, and did not have a neurological event like originally thought. He still tweaks his neck on occasion, but now we do laser treatments with Dr Anderson. It really helps with his mobility. read more

Great experience! Very knowledgeable about exotic pets (my little guinea pig), extremely clean, were able to fit me in quickly when I needed... Dr. Anderson gave my piggy a thorough check up and besides answering all of my questions beyond my expectations, he asked me questions I hadn't thought of and showed me ways to keep an eye on my little guy to make sure he's healthy at home going forward. He handled my piggy perfectly which can be a difficult task because guinea pigs tend to be easily frightened, but mine was just fine. They gave me information to read, and they called me to follow up and make sure that my guinea pig is doing well. I will absolutely be going back and recommend Madison Animal hospital to everyone I know. read more

I've been with this vet for six years and used to love them, but I've finally had it with them. I have a high anxiety rescue, which is noted in their files. In the last year and a half her vet has left the practice, which we were not made aware of. Then our dog is considered a senior so we need to have two well visits a year. Her rabies due date (since she's a rescue is not inline with either of those visits. They would not give her the rabies vaccine because it was a month and a half too soon. For a vaccine given every three years, does this even matter? But they refused. So I had to make another appointment for a rabies vaccine. When it became time for the rabies vaccine they insisted on doing another full physical exam, because that's their policy. This is simply ways to drive up what costs they can tack on clients. Today was the final straw for me. We have our annual well visit scheduled. I show up and call the front desk as informed by a text message. They tell me the technician will be out to take my dog in and they'll let me know when she's done. I was like excuse me no one informed me I couldn't go in with her. She has high anxiety and it's well noted in her chart. She does not do well with other dogs and all humans. They could not make any exceptions. And said they can try to fit me in another spot at a different time. No one informed me ahead of time that this was their current policy. read more

IF YOU MUST GO HERE STAY AWAY FROM DR EVA BOSTEK-BRADY I have been going here for over 20 years started with a German Shepard a Golden Retriever and now I have two Shih Tzu and can not believe the change from when I first started coming here. This place is all business constantly trying to add to your bill with unneeded test and services. I finally had enough, this week my two dogs were up all night sick vomiting & diarrhea I called 1st thing in morning they had opening at 11 am for only 1 dog but said come in now and we will fit you in. When I got there they right away took my dogs who were up all night and sick put them back in kennel around all the other dogs in the kennel and stuck me in exam room. I sat for 2 1/2 hours not once did anybody stop in give me any updates. Dr Eva Bostek-Brady finally came in just before an assistant returned my dogs who were now excited to get out of the kennel She advised me dogs seemed lethargic when in kennel NO KIDDING!! now they seem happier maybe they should of been left with me for the 2 1/2 hrs, Dr Eva Bostek-Brady then went on with an arms length of test and things she wanted to do on the dogs I settled for just a shot for the vomiting and pills for the diarrhea again Bostek-Brady wanted to take my dogs to the back out of my sight to give shots I refused, when she came back with the shots I asked a question about one of the dogs always having itchy skin she advised me she noticed that and some other things but I would have to come back to talk about them, (if I didn't ask she would of never told me she noticed other things) I questioned her a 2nd time and she gave me an earful that she had to send other people with appointments home because of me and if I want any information about anything else with my dogs I would have to make another appt. Honestly I was SHOCKED at this point and very tired and exhausted up all night & waiting in small room by myself without my dogs for 2 1/2 hrs and said I am sorry I caused all this trouble and she continued to be nasty unprofessional & would not provide any other info about my dogs except about the vomiting & diarrhea. Dr Eva Bostek-Brady never once even spoke to either of my dogs with a kind word they were handled, given shots without one kind word like pieces of meat!! When I went to pay boy did they get me charge extra for emergency service for both dogs when they had an open apt at 11am for at least 1 dog cost me $400 I can only imagine if I did everything the mean money hungry doctor wanted to do what it would of cost me. Its obvious this place is all about the money, and the doctors work on commission I don't mind spending $ when the services or products are top notch but its far from that with this Vet. I will say the staff at front desk are very nice but again they threw me in a room shut the door took my dogs away and no word from the whole place for 2 1/2 hours. We started going to this vet in the mid -90's and they did a good job at a reasonable cost. Not anymore. They were bought out by publicly traded VCA Antech and the costs have gone through the roof. Our dog and cat are both healthy, but this vet will try to add on all sorts of tests to your already high bill...just to look for stuff. Hold onto your wallets and purses if you do decide to go here, but there is really no reason to, as there are other very competent owner-run vets in the area that perform the same services for much less. read more

Regrettably, this is a very convenient and competent vet, but they have become VERY costly. I have been bringing and boarding cats here for a long time, but an added cost for telling them ahead of time I had a question in addition to the physical my cat was getting COST EXTRA. Competent, but outrageously priced. No more for me. read more
