The actual care our pets have received at Eagle Rock is generally very good. Dr. Lewis in particular is exceptionally caring, listens well, appreciates our concerns, answers our questions thoroughly and is typically very compassionate. Additionally, the staff is generally pleasant, conscientious and professional. But - and the but is substantial - Eagle Rock's policies seem to almost always necessitate expensive additional, many times unnecessary or repeatedly declined tests, shots and treatments. There has never been a "quick stop by for a vaccine" before boarding or "can you take a quick look at this" with Eagle Rock in the 5 years we've gone there. There is always an upsell for something additional. After a recent upsell on an annual exam only 7 months after the last annual exam, I calmly explained that the only reason we needed to come in was for the shots. I was told the recommendations were Eagle Rock's policy; I was offered a call back from Dr. Miller, who is listed as Eagle Rock's owner on their website. Dr. Miller called me back, and when I suggested we plainly acknowledge that for our 3 (rescued) pet household, Eagle Rock's veterinary practice management and visitation monetization strategy was starting to wear thin on us, Dr. Miller condescendingly denied even understanding what I meant by "upselling" or "practice management" (both core ideas presented at virtually every veterinarian trade show in existence - Google it). He then followed up with a parochial lecture on "standard of care" which implied irresponsibility on my part ("maybe you don't think your dogs require so many visits, but they age 4-5 years so we want to see them again") and - with the suggestion that I bring our dogs to Petco for vaccinations since "money is clearly an issue" - a cheap one as well. I ended the call with "Well clearly I have been 100% mistaken, nevermind". I can't remember exactly what couple of words Dr Miller said, but the unmistakable tone was "Yes, clearly *you* were mistaken." The customer doesn't always need to be right, but any business, if they don't agree with the customer, should at least acknowledge their opinions and experiences. But if a business chooses to belittle a customer, they won't be a customer for much longer. Have it your way, Dr. Miller. One less family of pets for you. read more

In March, my senior dog started exhibiting some symptoms of discomfort and very rapidly declined. As a result of the shutdown, her regular vet was closed, and I was concerned about finding a vet that was taking patients, reliable, and within a reasonable distance from my home. My friend recommended Eagle Rock Veterinary Hospital, as that is where she has loyally taken her dogs for many years. I called them on a Saturday morning, and the receptionist, who was friendly and kind, made sure I was able to get an appointment that day. Based upon the condition of my dog, I thought for sure I would have to put her down and was completely distraught. These emotions were heightened by the current state of the world. Dr. Cantamessa and the staff were incredible throughout this experience. I was a new patient with a sick, senior dog and they treated me as if I were family. Dr. Cantamessa took the time to examine my dog and find the best treatment options for my dog (not for the business' wallet!). She was extremely patient with me and reassured me that she did not want my dog, or any animal, to suffer and would be available if my dog did not show any improvement in the next couple days. As promised, Dr. Cantamessa called to check in on my dog at her earliest opportunity on Monday. After some TLC and following doctor's orders, my senior dog is thriving and the best shape she has been in many months. I am grateful for Dr. Cantamessa and the wonderful Eagle Rock Vet. staff and would highly recommend them to anyone in search of a vet! Thank you! read more

I am tremendously disappointed with the care my dog received. I have been going to this vet (before the new owners) for over 16 years with three separate dogs. My current dog (7 years old) is highly anxious and terrified to go to the vet. This office knows the history and, unfortunately, he has to be sedated just to get his nails clipped. Today I took him in to have a heartworm test, nails clipped, rabies shot and, of course, the obligatory (per this offices' requirements). Much to my dismay, the ONLY treatment given was a rabies shot and wellness exam. He was "too nervous" so they couldn't give him the proper sedation in order to complete the rest of the care needed to be given. $320 later!!! Unbelievable and unacceptable! I would NEVER recommend anyone to bring their pets here. read more

We followed Dr Tracy Cantamessa (Dr. C) here from her previous location. Dr C is awesome! She has been taking care of our fur babies for over 10 years. She is a fantastic vet who genuinely cares about our pets and has often gone above and beyond. She is always very kind and gentle with our cats who can be difficult sometimes (16-20 lb Main Coons who are usually not too thrilled with being poked and prodded) And she has always been great with us. Never felt rushed always takes her time with us, answers all our questions and address our concerns. We love all the staff there from Reception, to the Doctors and Techs that assist, they are all wonderful people. All very kind and truly love the animals and their jobs. Eagle Rock has always been great with helping out in any emergency and has probably saved my cats life once or twice. Dr Miller was the first to check out our 2 kittens, he was pivotal in our decision to get our cats covered by medical insurance, and can't thank him enough for stressing we take a serious look at insurance. Less then 6 months later one of the kittens swallowed a rubber cap that caused a blockage and required surgery to remove. Dr Miller diagnosed it and got him into surgery same day and saved his life. Insurance saved us a lot of money. Its great to not have to worry about the financial side of helping our pets in any emergency situation. read more

I just adopted a rescue dog two weeks ago who has a low grade heart murmur so the shelter clinic didn't feel comfortable neutering him without being checked out by a vet associated with an animal hospital. A good friend who has had seven rescue dogs that have needed surgeries recommended going to Eagle Rock. I called and made an appointment with Dr. Cantamessa. I was really impressed with my visit! Dr. C. came out to my car during the visit with detailed info on what she recommended along with the cost which I appreciated. She was able to explain everything and also complimented my sweet boy! After the visit she both called and emailed with his results and answered all my questions not just about his results but other things, like dealing with separation anxiety. Her email included references and even dog food and toy recommendations. The reception staff is also very friendly and quick to respond to both email and the phone. They probably are a little higher priced than most but I was so impressed by how thorough and kind they were that I will keep coming back! read more

I was watching my sons dog Bodie this last weekend. He showed some symptoms of a very bad stomach. His vet was not local. I called 2 Vets in the area and they would not take me because I was not a customer. When I called Eagle Rock Ann was very accommodating and kind on the phone. She fit me in without a problem much to my relief. When I came in they greeted us both by name. Everyone we met was smiling and sincerely concerned. The place was immaculate and warm. Dr. Hilliard, I hope I spelled it correctly, had all the info I had sent over from Bodie's vet. She was terrific personally and professionally. Today I was a first timer meeting Dr.Miller and several staff members. I am so pleased I have to share my enthusiasm! I floated around a bit to find a groomer working out of a veterinary clinic and finally made an appointment with this office. It was quiet, organized and clean. The Dr. is clear and open with ideas and information. I welcomed the ease with which he communicated and will definetely be returning. My visit was a real shock to the systen. I've been taking my pets to low cost clinics, but I have been getting tired of the 'zoo' feel. I had a little extra money in my pocket. So I decided to give a regular vet a try. I figured if the low cost outfits charge $35 for shots and the vet charges $135 it's worth not having to deal with crowds. I even called these guys ahead of time and was told it was $78 just to walk in the door. It was $96. I asked what it would cost to have my cat neutered. People for animals wants $40 and these guys wanted $400. Not even in the same ball park. read more

I contacted VCA Eagle Rock to see my pet for a health travel certificate and within the first conversation had doubts about their professionalism. First, the receptionist displayed prejudice towards my destination. Then after I e-mailed them the required forms, the receptionist e-mailed to cancel my appointment without calling me or providing a competent reason for the cancelation. I was confused, as I know the ins and outs of the process and it's not that complicated. I called and tried to explain the process and how they were meant to fill out the form (it was clear they just didn't know how to do it) and the receptionist hung up on me in the middle of me speaking. I called back to make a complaint to the hospital administrator and the receptionist hung up again! Very disappointing experience as I used to go to a VCA in another state and always experienced professional and quality care from the vets. Yes, we're in a pandemic and we need to be patient with businesses, but this was next level - denying to provide a service you offer on the basis of what exactly? I wonder if I had been traveling to Europe and not elsewhere ("we do certificates for Europe all the time, just not there", said the receptionist) maybe they wouldn't have been as rude and dismissive? read more

I love the doctors and staff at Eagle Rock Veterinary Hospital. They are so kind, caring and friendly and everything is so clean. I bring my cat there and I know she is in good hands. Price is average but I rather not go with the cheapest place or the most expensive. They really care about the animals they see. And they take the time to explain how to care and prognosis. Dr. Lewis is great! I really appreciate a doctor who takes the time to make sure you are feeding and socializing the animal the right way. (I wish MD's took the time he does) I have used the boarding too and love that they give the animals time to roam around and the staff comes and plays with them too. We've been with Eagle Rock Animal Hospital for over 10 years and they are incredibly amazing! From the front desk to the Vet Techs to each of the Doctors, they treat everyone like family and your animal will get the best care. My Senior rescue dog has been through quite a bit over the 10 years and they always made time to see him and provide treatment options. At around age 9-10, he was diagnosed with diabetes and Dr. Miller and Dr. Lewis were there for both him and us. It was a tough transition to learn how to manage the condition with insulin injections and they were so patient and caring in helping us through it (and trust me, I was panicked!). They always took my calls and talked me through what to do in such a calming way.Then a couple of years later, he hurt his leg and I was freaking out and Dr. Lewis made the time in the middle of a snowstorm to see him. It turned out he needed his ACL repaired and Dr. Lewis so patiently explained the issue and the recommended options. When he had the surgery, they could not have been more helpful and caring. Fast forward to this last year, we've been having some difficulty managing his diabetes and Dr. Cantamessa has been amazing at analyzing the situation and offering recommendation. Even though she is so busy, she always takes the time to answer my MANY questions and calls to check in and see how he's doing! Although it's difficult to see your animal age, she has definitely made the process easier for me. Dr. C truly cares about her patients and their families. Beware of RUDE receptionist. I called in the morning inquiring the cost of a routine exam and also an estimate on the treatment of a ear infection for a dog. The woman was rude and refused to give an estimate for the treatment or an estimate on a ear flush. Customer service goes a long way and I'm afraid this hospital has not trained her at all. If she hates her job, she should find another one. Extremely disappointed. read more

So my little Apache came to Dr. Miller to have acupuncture after suffering a back injury. Dr. Miller did a full exam on him and stated that acupuncture was not going to work for him and that he recommended getting him to a neurologist ASAP. Upon examination Dr. Miller found that Apache had a full bladder and it needed to be expressed. Dr. Miller took him to the back, expressed him and even had the ladies give him a butt bath. He also went ahead and spoke to the neurologist and set up an apt for me at my local Emergency Animal Hospital . It was so refreshing to have a doctor that actually cared for my dog and was not in this just to make money. Without Dr. Miller Apache probably would have never walked again. After going to the neurologist Apache had an MRI and back surgery, the animal hospital we went to before going to ERVH told us that surgery would not help Apache so we didn't even consider it. We found out that surgery was the only way that he would ever walk again. The doctor even called to see what we decided to do and how Apache was doing. ERVH was not my primary vet at the time but is now. I even have their magnet on my car. So thank you Dr. Miller! See you in June for his check up! read more

Very nice inside. Over priced found the same meds we got from them for 40 dollars cheaper at http://petmed.com. Told me the frontline i bought was fake from costco REALLY!!!! Then asked how much i paid. Y would you care how much i paid if i was fake?? Told me where i was getting my dog spayed was no good and i should get it done by them. Also told me the food i was giving was no good but wouldnt suggest any dog foods. When i asked which ones were good they replied IDK i guess the one you are using is fine for now. Earlier this year my 17 1/2 half year old senior male cat developed issues with urinating. When that becomes an issue it's important to deal with it immediately. I was debating to go to the local vet ER in Fairfield about a half hour away or take him here 5 minutes from where I live. I had taken him here 5 years ago but never came back when at that time the vet, Dr. Lewis, gave me an estimated bill of $1000 for his dental care. I decided to take him here again. Granted they took him in right away (it was a Saturday morning) and that same vet did diagnose him with intestinal cystitis after a battery of tests which included an ultrasound, urinalysis and blood work. His conversational manner was narcissistic and I voiced my concern that my cat may possibly have a blockage. Thankfully that wasn't the case but what angered me was being charged for an antibiotic but verbally he said he did not give him the shot when he was released and wanted him back on Tuesday to get another antibiotic which I was charged for since Monday he was off from work. First off he could have his colleague or any of the vet assistants take care of him on Monday (on his day off). I did get a courtesy call from one of the vet assistants on Monday but my poor cat had to suffer two days more than he had to. Second when he called me that Tuesday morning to let me know what the urinalysis results were he was wanting to do another test that would have cost me a couple of hundred dollars more. Either way I was fed up with this sales pitch and after taking him for his antibiotic on Tuesday afternoon I never returned there again. read more

If you would relish being treated condescendingly and having your questions summarily dismissed when you are in a state of duress, make an appointment with Dr. Abe Van Beveren. If you would like to be charged repeatedly for the same items such as IV fluids or for "Intensive Care" while your animal remains unattended, this where you should bring your pet. There are no words to express my dissatisfaction and distain for this facility and Dr. Van Beveren. I cannot caution you strongly enough to stay away from Eagle Rock Veterinary Hospital at all costs; and it will cost you, the health of your pet, and your wallet dearly. read more

Dr. Lewis (new on staff) has excellent bedside manner. When my dog was sick because of heart problems, they diagnosed it ASAP and helped me get an appointment with a specialist right away. I would not recommend this place. I like the doctor there, he seemed very knowledgeable and was very nice. The problem with this place however, is there blatant overcharging. I brought my new kitten there for her first vet visit and it cost over $400! And I was supposed to go back 2 more times in the upcoming weeks to pay even more. I had never had a cat before so while thinking this was an awful lot, I paid it. However, it didn't seem right to me so when I got home, I took my bill and started calling other vets in the area and seeing how much they would charge for the things I just paid for. To my dismay they all quoted me prices that would arrive at a price of less than $200 for all three visits combined, and here i was just having paid over $400 for just the first visit alone. I have been using eagle rock for years for both of my dogs and have been very happy. On May 29, 2013 I had to put our wonderful standard poodle down. He was 15 years old and in the last stages of liver and renal disease. Needless to say this was a very difficult decision to make. Dr. Miller explained step by step what would happen and assured us we were making the best decision for a beloved pet that could not make the decision himself. We did not want this done at the vet's office but in the comfortable environment of our home. Dr. Miller was not available to come to our house but Dr. Macario was. She has taken care of our furry son for months and knew him well. She was compassionate and kind as well as her vet tech Tara. A very sad and emotional event was made bearable by the professionalism and kindest of the eagle rock staff. Our dog went across the rainbow bridge in a calm and familiar setting. We will always be grateful to Dr. Miller and his staff. read more

I have been going to ERV now for many years now, a long time before the renovation. I was initially referred to them by a childhood vet that told me Dr Miller was excellent at what he does, and he had a young gun behind him Dr Macario, that kept the practice fresh and cutting edge. So I was ensured that my animals would be in good hands, and my animals were, they were in great hands. I felt comfortable bringing my pets there and the doctors would disclose all matters and options that I had to choose from to keep my pet healthy. But after the renovation things shifted slightly... Dr Macario was still a joy to work with, she would make sure that I had a full understanding of what was happening, and made sure that all parties were comfortable. The newer doctor, Dr Lewis is also very nice to work with and takes the time to inform you. Dr Miller, is the different story... He may know what he is doing, but if you don't have a pure breed or a dog that absolutely has no qualms with being at the vet, he tends to be very dismissive and standoffish with you and your animal... to the point of being flat out judgmental. Its just a shame because the whole staff is great... the vet techs are some of the best I have ever experienced, its just the "head honcho," in my opinion, has lost what made the practice so great, its level of attention to caring. Its why I now give this place three stars, Dr Macario has moved on, Dr Lewis is still wonderful & Dr Miller is judgmental on owners and animals, he's just not the vet I first starting seeing all those years ago. read more
