Having finally got my full onset of COVID with bacterial Pneumonia, Madison Memorial treated me as if I was their family. For the first two days, they checked on me first and always greeted me with a smile. My time there, I felt a genuine, professional environment of caring efficient individuals working collectively as one unit. When one nurse made a note, you can be sure all the nurses will have that same information. I was at my worse when I came to them but they diligently got me back up so a healthy level so could make a full recovery at home. There was an ER doctor there who CHASTISED my daughter who came in the ER with kidney stones. Instead of giving her pain medication , he began calling her a brat and told her to apologize to a nurse who was her "life line". He treated my daughter like garbage. He defensiveness was even More bizarre because nothing was a problem except for the fact that they were withholding her pain meds during this. I am going to be requesting the medical records and will make sure he is called out for this. Shameful, unprofessional and not his lane. read more

I went in because Madison Health said they accepted my insurance. I had some simple questions. I met with the doctor for five minutes and was given a prescription that did more harm than good. What really irritates me about this place is that I was given a bill 8 months later for 150 dollars. I tried calling in to find out more about the bill. I have called half a dozen times and the system kicks me over to customer service where no one picks up. The system then tells me to send my review to the website so someone can get back to me. I went to the website filled out the form and have heard nothing. This place seems very poorly run. I regret deciding to go here. November 10, 2021 - (Part 1) The participation in the death of Shane Enlow This letter is being written to inform all parties involved in the negligent care given to Shane Enlow by Madison Memorial on October 23, 2020. We would like Madison Memorial to take responsibility for the lack of action taken on behalf of the deceased and make policy changes so this does not happen to another family of a Veteran ever again. We as a family are heartbroken that this occurred. However, it was more disconcerting to discover the uncooperative nature of Madison Memorial when the VA opened an investigation themselves. The other disappointing discovery is that Madison Memorial is still treating veterans the same way as they did when I was employed there over 40 years ago. Get them out as soon as possible - its hard to collect money from the VA. So, let's start with these questions - for Madison memorial: Why was Shane released on a Friday with no medications given to him to take him through the weekend? Why (once when he was stabilized) was he not transferred to the VA hospital in Salt Lake City? Why was he released early? Originally was supposed to keep him until October 28, 2020. Why was he released to a minor child that had no driver's license? Why did the doctor agree to release him to go home knowing how sick he was (no AMA on the chart) Why when the nurse called him from Madison Memorial on Saturday morning and discovered that the medication he was prescribed was not available, was he not immediately told to return to the emergency room and re admitted? Yes, he was given instructions verbally on why his medication was very important to take - but he was on morphine at the time. So yes, he understood the English spoken to him. He did not comprehend due to his altered state during discharge. Why did no one call the VA as soon as he was stabilized to arrange for a transport? (Policy needs to change) Why did no one at Madison memorial contact the VA to follow up to see that this very ill patient's information was received/acknowledged to make sure the care he needed was in motion? Next set of questions for the governor, judge, coroner, sheriff We contacted a lawyer for malpractice in Idaho and he told us of a law called TORC. It is when you only have 180 days from the death of a person to file a claim against the hospital. However, since the VA voluntarily opened an investigation at the end of April (ironically the end of the TORC period) (the VA is expediting the paperwork at this point in time). The lawyer informed us that a judge would not allow this mal practice suit to go forward due to the TORC date being past. Now my question is - since we were in the middle of a pandemic and everything was on hold everywhere it seems that some leeway would be granted for this situation. We are still under the 2-year statute of limitations. The Lawyer also informed us that we would have to find an employed working doctor to testify that Shane did not receive the level of care under the oath of: Do No Harm. I think we could call in a doctor under a hostile witness situation. Since I don't think anyone in their right mind would testify against the hospital they work at otherwise. For the Sheriff and Coroner: How many times had you been called to this home due to domestic disruptions between Shane and his step son? Shane died in his home with his step son and his 5-year-old daughter there. An unattended death at 39 years old sounds suspicious - yet the widow was told she would have to pay for an autopsy out of her pocket? So, we really don't know why Shane died do we? It seems to me that lots of errors occurred in many places with ALL parties involved. After the VA concluded their findings, they admitted their part. Now to all parties involved: The widow of Shane in the meantime finds herself this past year now at a total of 10 pay cuts. Lost the income that Shane brought in Was offered a demotion from manger back down to clerk, Work hours at this job did not work out. Found another job - for another cut in pay These hours also not conducive to a single mother raising a child Has to now pay for child care. Is now starting a new job with hours that work for a single mother for another pay cut. His daughter - is now in counseling (more money). The widow does not qualify for the section 8 housing assistance and the rent has gone up 2x now...- but they were working hard. My daughter reached out to HR at Madison memorial. The 1st person she spoke to said she would have to speak to her supervisor and hung up on her. The supervisor called, said they did their job over and over - almost breaking into tears and also hanging up the phone. My daughter remained professional through both calls. Here is a suggestion for the admittance pack. Put the paperwork for the TORC so it is already in motion for anyone else Madison Memorial decides to slough off. All we want to see are some major policy changes, before they hurt another! read more

So far I've had seven operations over the past ten years at Madison Memorial. I have always had excellent food and the nicest, friendliest, and most helpfull staff I could have asked for. Unfortunately I ended up at EIRMC once and I will never go back there ever again. At Madison Memorial they tried their very best to fulfill my every request. The staff was compassionate and empathetic about my situations. In the future if I ever end up at a different hospital I will ask, demand, to be transferred to Madison Memorial Hospital. read more

I've had decent experiences here. Doctors have always been accommodating. The cafeteria (Paragon Cafe) is a MUST! The only gripe is the need to re-submit or re-register my information every time I come for a medical reason. My job requires drug tests for employees and when I came here, it was SO SLOW. Took 20 minutes until they took me in, only to pee in a cup, then get the paperwork and leave. read more

We were neglected at Madison hospital Pediatric Floor 2nd floor It took almost 2hrs for a nurse after pressing my call light 4 times being so patient I went to the hall way and started getting upset with the person answering the call light not doing jack. I WAS WAITING FOR THEM TO PUT LEADS BACK ON MY CHILD (PULSE OX AND HEART LEADS) (THE NIGHT BEFORE SHE HAD WENT UNCONSCIOUS!!! BUT I GUESS THAT WASNT IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO THEM?? THE NURSE AND I DECIDED TO LET MY CHILD SIT IN A STEAM SHOWER WITH ME I WAS TO CALL HER AFTER I WAS DONE. ) I had requested the charge nurse to come speak with me he did. Then I called my Dr and we were able to leave. My childs lungs sounded great he said wich made me happy ! While I understand that each person's experience is different, I have a hard time understanding how the hospital earns single star ratings. I have been here on numerous occasions, and only had the best of service. In 2008, my child was born here. The staff were all friendly and helpful during the whole ordeal. We arrived at around 5 AM but still felt like we were getting the best service. Our child had to be in the NICU for a few hours and even then, I felt like our nurses there were more than happy to help us with anything that we needed. The steak dinner for new parents is also a welcome treat. (Even if you are paying for it) In 2009, I had a major operation which was fairly serious and it was excellently pleased with the work of the staff, nurses, and everyone I came into contact with. During my recovery, everyone was very accommodating and welcoming when my family (including child) would visit. In 2012, I had another procedure, of an emergency variety, and it was also done with the best of care. I never felt forgotten and even while waiting I was updated as to the wait time and any complications that had arisen. Not to mention the yummy cafeteria which is a delicious secret of Rexburg. For $6 one time I got a chicken sandwich, fries, corn dog, and a drink. Can't be beat for the price. Billing has also been very nice to me. The only gripe I ever had was when I wasn't offered a discount for paying in full, but when you think about it, you're not really entitled to a discount just because you pay your bill. So, while this might not be the oasis of health care some must imagine, it's a great hospital and I do (and have) trust the staff with my life and the lives of my family. read more

Worst hospital experience ever. My fiancee and I were victims of a severe rear-end car crash during a white-out snow storm which left her unconscious with a large gash on top of her head. The ambulance came quickly and (unfortunately) transported us to Madison Memorial Hospital. The ER experience was fine. They took CT scans and stapled up her head. She was regaining consciousness by then, but still extremely out of it. She had no idea where we were, where we were going, why, etc. Her memory would "reset" every couple of minutes. Also, the EMTs in the ambulance cut off all of her clothes, so she had nothing but the hospital gown to wear. With all of that in mind, let me tell you what happened next. The ER doctor and the hospital staff began pressuring us to leave the hospital. I don't know why exactly, but I suspect that it may have been because we both came in on the ambulance and therefore we never submitted our insurance to anyone. They admitted us to the hospital as "self pay." So, as far as the ER knew, we had no insurance (for the record, we both do and did have insurance). I think they wanted us out of there as quickly as possible because they probably thought that we would rack up a bunch of "self-pay" bills and never pay them. So, here we are 100 miles from home in the middle of winter, our car was totaled so we have no vehicle, she's naked under a hospital gown, she doesn't know what's going on, and she's bleeding from her head wound. We asked them several times to admit her to the hospital overnight so that she could be looked after by professionals (nurses), and monitored at least until she regained her ability to think correctly. Yet, the hospital staff kept insisting that a stay in the hospital would be nothing more than "a really expensive hotel room." When we pushed them and reminded them that she has no clothes and we have no car, they said, "we will call you a cab that can take you to a hotel, and she can keep the hospital gown on." So, in the middle of a snow storm, they were going to send her NAKED into the storm to wait for a cab, to check into a hotel, only to bleed all over the hotel room's linens because of her head wound, also still suffering from a severe concussion that really should be monitored for some time still. They *insisted* several times that we leave this way in a cab to a hotel. It wasn't until we finally demanded that they admit her overnight to the hospital that they relented and reluctantly let us fill out the paperwork to be admitted. And guess what? Once she was admitted to the hospital, a nurse was in to check her vitals and administer medication every hour. Something that she would NOT have received if we had checked into a hotel. Her parents were able to wait out the snow storm until the next day and drive over to Rexburg to come and get us and bring her a change of clothes before she ever had to leave the hospital. But if we had left it up to the staff of Madison Memorial, then who knows what would have happened. She could have slipped on the ice (she had no shoes at this point either) or something could have gone terribly wrong and no nurse or doctor would have been around to help her with it if we were simply staying in a hotel. All in all, worst experience I could imagine having at a hospital (er I mean, a "really expensive hotel") other than someone actually dying because of their negligence. If you have any choice at all, stay far, far away from this place. Go somewhere that actually cares about their patients. If you are taken there in an ambulance and have no choice but to end up at Madison Memorial, then God help you. I hope you don't end up kicked out onto the snowy streets wearing nothing but your hospital gown. read more

I had the misfortune to need the hospital's assistance while on vacation, but the great fortune that this was the closest and most recommended hospital by Yellowstone National Park Rangers and Staff. Dr. Lee performed reconstructive surgery on my lower leg, foot, and ankle. The staff was all around wonderful, and the nurses incredibly kind. The facility boasts new technology such as easy-read thermometers that only need to be swiped across the forehead to decrease the potential for spreading disease. My room was large, single-occupancy and had the benefit of a nice big window. The food options are very tasty. I was happy to recuperate in their care. You even get a coupon for free ice cream at the time I checked in on Yelp. I would highly recommend this hospital if you find yourself in need of medical attention. read more

Absolutely the WORST hospital in the area! I've been there many times, and not by choice. I've had a lot of health problems and a MRI scan last month showed possible Intracranial Hypertension that is causing major damage to my eye nerve sheaths and is squishing my pituitary gland so much that I now have hypo-thyroidism and naturally produce as much testosterone as a post menopausal woman. Seriously. Had some bad (so called) "Pseudo seizures" these past week and told me wife that it if gets really bad, call the paramedics. I had one a couple days ago that I'm still trying to recover. Anyway, I had one today. Last thing I remember is losing color vision, tons of head pressure, major headache, blurry vision, the works. I woke up in the ambulance after vomiting and vomited twice more at the hospital. What did they do? Give me nausea medicine and send me home. The staff there is absolutely horrible. I have no respect for any of them and hope I never meet them in public as I'd like to give them some of MY medicine! I told my wife that I don't care if I'm dying, don't EVER let me get there again! NEVER! Stay away from Madison! Seriously! Their interpersonal skills are lacking, the medical knowledge sucks and they are just some of the rudest people ever. Look at the other reviews here. Had my first baby here. The IV nurse had to do my iv 3 times. Blew out my 2 of my veins. I went through unmedicated childbirth and it was such a terrible experience at this hospital. My midwife Marie Horne is totally incapable of helping women going through natural childbirth. Maybe her mind was more on the guy she was having an affair with at the time at Seasons Women's center. They gave me Demerol without informed consent. Told me "it will take the edge off" it only took the edge off for the nurses and Marie because I was unable to respond to my pain anymore. I was laying there in utter agony, wishing for death but hey at least I got some drugs I didn't ask for to make my brain and body not work together. No one had to hear me complain about the back labor I had been going through for 18 hours already and the fact that I was awake for over 30 hours. I was asking for an epidural multiple times but Marie and the nurses kept stalling me until it was too late. They let me lay there and writhe in pain for a few hours, then they put me in a bath until I felt the urge to push. They told me to be quiet when I screamed through my baby's head tearing my vagina in 3 places. Marie tried to give me the Tdap, MMR and Flu vaccine literally ONE day after I had a baby. Because your immune system isn't down enough already. I refused. I was pushing on my hands and knees but the MADE me go on my back to push. I tore in 3 places and needed OVER 50 stitches. Honestly I should've gave birth at home, it would been a much better experience and not cost THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS! read more

Madison Memorial Hospital is a terrible hospital. I dropped my sister off at the hospital after she called me drunk. Her friend said she had two separate convulsions while drinking. She convulsed again when we got there. Dr. Hancock refused to test her for alcohol poisoning, it was a battle to get them to let her finish a single IV bag. They said it's normal to have convulsions after drinking. IT IS NOT NORMAL TO HAVE CONVULSIONS FOR DRINKING. This is not our first bad experience with the ER in Rexburg. We always cringe when we see it's Doctor Hancock coming into our ER room. He is literally the worst ER doctor we have ever met. read more

Had to bring my roommate here because she fell and hurt her knee. They only allowed one person to go back with her which I understand completely because rooms are small. I sat and waited in the waiting room. we were here for over 3 hours. I was in communication with my two friends being talked to by the doctors and they were being told just to wait while they went to get a knee brace. They waited for about an hour and a half for that knee brace. I asked the lady at the front desk to go and check on what was taking so long. She was very helpful and I understand that sometimes ERs take a while. However, it was not busy and I felt like we were being treated differently because we were young college students. read more

I hated delivering my baby there! 1. Even though I pre-registered, I still had to re-register when I got there. We signed a million papers and it took forever, meanwhile I was super uncomfortable. 2. I got an epidural and the nurses never gave me a catheter. I had to have my husband almost yell at them because I thought I was going to burst! 3. Even though I had the epidural (I never pushed the bottom for more), I felt my baby ready to come. I told the nurses I felt a lot of pain and it felt like I had to go to the bathroom, and I was bawling from pain. I waited 2 hours, until my dr got there. The nurses didn't check me. Right when the dr got there, he looked and my baby was there 5 min later, he didn't even change into his scrubs bc it happened so fast! The nurses should have checked me earlier, the dr almost wanted to do a c section bc baby's heart rate kept dropping. 4. My nurse after delivery was horrible, her name was Tricia, or Trish. I wanted to breast feed so badly, but baby wouldn't latch and she kept handling my baby rough, shoving him into my boob, even hurting me! I used a shield to breastfeed and she totally made me feel bad. She said I might as well give him a bottle. (Found out later my son had a tongue tie and thats why he couldnt breastfeed, im happy to say i pumped and gave my baby breast milk for 9 months, and i hope she sees this and realizes she needs to be more caring when breastfeeding issues happen, bc moms after delivery can be very emotional. ) She also didn't give me my meds on time. And since I have a negative blood type, I was supposed to get a shot bc my baby was positive blood type, I had to remind them over and over. They finally gave me one right before I went home. 5. They sent us home with my baby having jaundice, and by the time we had his first dr appointment 2 days later, he was in the danger levels and needed light therapy 24/7 for a while. 6. When they sent us home, they gave us his vaccination records, but when we got home we relized that they didn't sign or even acknowledge that he got shots there. We had to take the shot record back and have them look it up and sign it! I love rexburg! But I would never deliver there again. I would recommend mountain view hospital in idaho falls! They have free prenatal yoga and water aerobics, and free classes. Their labor and delivery units are awesome and they are so friendly! read more

I can't understand the negative reviews of this hospital. I've had surgeries here and the staff was amazing. They saved my mother in laws life in July and ICU was the best ever. Dr. Bates, Lofgran and Christensen are professional, kind and concerned. You don't see that at other near by hospitals. The nurses who took care of my mother in law were by far the best. The emergency room staff on several occasions have gone beyond the call of duty. On this last event Dr. Packer was just outstanding. We love this hospital. read more

If you're ever sick while you're in Rexburg Idaho, DON'T GO TO THE HOSPITAL. I have been sick for the past forever, and finally I decided to go into the emergency room in the hospital. Severe stomach pains, loss of apatite, I've lost 11 pounds In a week, nausea, back pains, fever, cold sweats.. On and on.. Here is what the hospital does. Sticks some morphine in me, gives me a CAT scan. Gives me a prescription of pain meds.. And basically tells me to get out. The doctor didn't even tell me what they saw on my CAT scan. They just kicked me out. Needless to say, I'm still sick and I'm out $150 because their service was so great. Madison Memorial hospital is awful. I hate that this is the only hospital in Rexburg. I had to take my brother here about six months ago and they had at least five hipaa violations in the few hours I was sitting there. I wish I would have started recording the gossiping nurses and front desk people. I knew the medical condition of every patient there. There is no patient privacy in this place. I should have started writing down all the violations and sent them in so they could be fined. As I was sitting there someone I knew came on shift. She asked me what I was doing there and I said just hanging out, not wanting her to know my business. She asked me two more times what I was there for as if it was her right to know. I know she would have went looking for medical records and found out, but it truly was none of her business. I am concerned that this hospital doesn't train their staff on patient privacy compliance very well. I could send them to some good websites so they could properly train their employees on HIPAA and PHI!! If I'm ever back to this place, I will be wired so I can bust them. read more

If I could give this hospital no stars I would. This hospital is the absolute worst. I was in a head on accident in island park and was drove by ambulance to this hospital, if I knew then what I do now I would have taken my chances at an insta care. Rude staff, power outage during my CT scan, not even and ice pack for my swollen and black eye! That was the best part of this hospital!! 11 months after the accident and I received another bill from them today after my husband and I have fought with them to actually send the correct information to the insurance company. They threatened to send me to collections because the insurance company wouldn't pay when in fact they kept sending the wrong bill over and over to them. They are now charging interest on top of a $300.00 balance they're claiming the insurance didn't pay. I am utterly fed up with the incompetent, rude, inexcusable actions of the staff of this sub-par "hospital". Stay away from this joke of a hospital. read more

This was the worst service I have ever seen. I took my brother in three times this week and they finally showed some sympathy and caring the third time. We walked into the ER and the only type of greeting we received was a stare, as if we were a bother and needed to leave. The nurses were unprofessional and unsanitary, if you don't want the nurse to open every package and needle with her mouth, then don't come here. The nurse never went on her rounds, they drugged him up and set up oxygen because there could be breathing issues. In result, there was no check up on him to see if he was alive. The only time she came in was when he called her in for a glass of water. Maybe then she remembered she had a patient? Would not recommend this hospital to anyone. read more
