I love Dr Ducommun and Madison No Fear Dentistry. I had horrible dental experiences as a teenager, and was petrified of the dentist. Dr. Dave put me totally at ease at my first appointment. He later replaced all my silver (mercury containing) old fillings with resin and my teeth are strong and look great. He and his staff made sure I was comfortable and relaxed. Yesterday he filled a small cavity with no pain at all. And today he personally called me to make sure everything was fine. At one point this business decided to cut back on what and how much dental insurance they would accept. My Delta Dental was not enough and I had to pay more for routine cleanings and X-rays. I had a similar experience to what Anastasia K. described in her 2019 review. I hadn't been to a dentist in a while and, upon my exam with Dr. Dave Ducommun, was informed that I had serious cavities in all of my molars that needed to be filled ASAP. This was surprising since my dental health had historically been great, so I planned to get a second opinion. The office tried to schedule a follow-up appointment less than two weeks later, placing immediate pressure on me to commit. Throughout my visit, I was repeatedly offered unnecessary whitening services in a manner that would be shaming or mortifying for many patients. I declined all of this flagrant and pushy upselling. I got a second and third opinion from excellent dentists who disagreed with Dr. Ducommun's assessment and were concerned by the aggressiveness of the recommendation. However, subjectivity in dental philosophy and salesmanship wasn't the most notable negative part of this visit. Dr. Ducommun asked me a series of invasive questions about the social and power dynamics of my parents' relationship. There was no context for it. It was an extremely uncomfortable and inappropriate line of questioning. I left the office shaking. This was one of my most stressful interactions in a medical setting and I finally decided to leave feedback on this topic after the review sitting as a draft for a couple years. I strongly recommend recurring, trauma-informed trainings for the entire staff, both the care and admin teams, alongside cultural sensitivity trainings. Growing up, I always loved the dentist. I know that is not everyone's experience, but I did. As an adult, I found Madison No Fear Dentistry and I didn't know I could love going to the dentist even more. They have bread baking in the lobby for a nice warm smell, the staff are also all warm and kind. The option of listening to Pandora or Netflix during the appointment is a luxury I never knew I was missing. The warm neck wrap is another treat I had never experienced before, but never want to go back from. Dr. Courtney is lovely and all of the techs are so nice! I've been seeing Dr. Dave since December 2005. From the first meeting to my most recent visit, I've had nothing short of an amazing dental experience. He has done numerous fillings for me and has done some minor adjustments to my teeth to make it look its best. The staff is extremely pleasant and they do an excellent job at collecting information prior to your visit (Digitally) and make sure things are in order before you go in. I wish I would have read the reviews before heading here. Just like some of the older posts mention I was not properly informed of what my insurance would cover and what I would pay out of pocket. The "bill" I was given stated my insurance would possibly cover just over $100, one week after my procedure was completed they TEXTED me saying I had an outstanding bill of over $500! When I explained I was NEVER told verbally or in writing I would need to pay this much more it went on deaf ears. They are insisting I pay for something I was not aware of. I went in on a tooth emergency. I gave them my Insurance card and they said they had to check and see if they serviced my carrier. They sent me into a room and started to take one x-ray. So the hygienist was very nice. However after they refused to traditionally clean my teeth as my insurance would of paid for, they recommended a $1200 periodontal cleaning my insurance will NOT cover. So I left with nothing done except xrays and $125 poorer. I will not be going back. read more

I started going to No Fear Dentistry about 4-5 years ago. The reason I starting going was because I had horrible tooth pain and my regular dentist couldn't figure it out. Needless to say, (Dr. Ducommun) or Dr. Dave, as likes to be called, figured out my issue and my tooth pain was gone. Needless to say, I started having these HORRIBLE headaches these past 4 months and again, nobody could figure it out. I should've went to Dr. Dave at the very beginning but I had NO tooth pain. They were so bad I went to the VA and my cardiologist suggested I get a Cat Scan after checking out my heart. The Cat Scan came out normal and my heart was still pumping at half the rate, which is as good as it gets for my condition. I called Madison No Fear Dentistry, they got me in right away! Tchia was the dental assistant and she was very understanding, writing down everything I told her and asked a lot of questions. She was TRULY concerned and caring. After reviewing my issue, she called in Dr. Dave and he noticed I had a small cavity on my back mower. No Fear Dentistry got me in with-in a week to fix the cavity but while Dr. Dave was fixing that, he noticed I had a large fracture in that tooth. This is what was causing all my headaches. Tchia and Dr. Dave diligently worked on me and now the issue is resolved! I was living with pain for over 4 months and they fixed my issue in a week?! Unreal!!! This is why I would recommend anyone and everyone to No Fear Dentistry in Madison. I live 45 minutes away from there and I'll drive even further if needed! This dentist takes advantage of people who are actually fearful of going to the dentist! About two years ago, they told me I had four pockets of cavities to be filled and they recommended that it be done within two years. In that time, I moved to another state to go to college and didn't have the money to pay for any of their services (which are honestly through the roof). Fast forward to going to Hilldale Dental where I had an excellent visit, I was told differently. Two years later, I have ZERO cavities. I want to emphasize that this has not just happened with me, but also to my sister and her boyfriend. They both got recommended to do extensive work to their teeth for a ridiculous price when it wasn't necessary. They both felt weird and like their recommendations didn't make sense, so they got a second opinion and it was confirmed that they needed minimal work done. No Fear Dentistry is really only out for money. Save your money and save your worries for real problems. I highly recommend Hilldale Dental with Fred Jaeger. He is super personable and accurate in his recommendations and won't make you do any unnecessary crap to your teeth. He and his nurses took great care of my teeth, were funny, and made sure to inform me on everything they were doing during appointment. SHAME ON YOU for taking advantage of people who are truly fearful of going to the dentist. You are preying on people who seek your office out as support to have healthier teeth. For many people going here, people haven't been to a dentist for years out of fear, and they take advantage of that by saying you need to have crazy work done on your teeth. I called this office desperate to see a dentist about a bridge that was broken in my mouth due to a vehicle accident. I was pleased to get in quickly for a first appointment and was told that would be 130.00. First appointments usually consist of ex rays and a plan with a price attached for the patient to budget their teeth care. This was not the case in my experience with Madison No Fear Dentisry who advertises on 94.9 radio station that they work with people with no insurance. Three digital photos were taken of just the broken bridge, not my whole mouth like all other dentists have done in the past. The doctor came in looked in my mouth a minute tops and said yep you have a broken bridge. I asked several questions with no real answers received. When the subject came up that I didn't have insurance but was willing to pay out of pocket I was asked how much money I had to spend rather than telling me what it would cost and how soon it would be started to get this repaired. Instead I was told I would need an other first appointment to take ex rays which was going to be another 375.00 . So at this dentist your first exam is not 130.00 in actuality it is 505.00 which is 400.00 more expensive than most dentists in town! For a dentist advertising helping people who don't have insurance I was completely disgusted with this dentist. I left the office 130.00 poorer, no plan for treatment,still missing teeth, lost wages at work for time taken off, and money I could have used on gas or groceries was used to pay the 130.00 bill for 15 minutes of time. THE BEST experience EVER at a dentist. Moved to Madison over 8 months ago and had put off going to the dentist for so long. When my husband finally made us appointments, I was dreading going. Here's why: -Easy to fill out online forms -Friendly office staff -Fresh baked bread smell when you walk in the office (WHAT?!) -On-time- I waited barely 5 minutes in the waiting room. -They gave me an office tour since it was my first visit. -Friendly staff. They seemed interested in me as a PERSON rather than just my dental health. -NON-JUDGMENTAL! My kids and I all agree- our old dentist was super judgmental. It sometimes seemed like she expected us to eat just water and vegetables forever and never touch anything with sugar in it (or even carbonation...she told us we shouldn't even drink fizzy water). At Madison No Fear, they seem to have a realistic view of the fact that people like to eat a variety of foods...and they're encouraging about dental health, rather than judging what you eat. -They checked my insurance to ensure I didn't pay for x-rays I didn't need. -They EXPLAINED what they were doing as they examined and cleaned my teeth. -Most of all, the staff just seem to LIKE working there...and that says a lot about a small business. I visited No Fear Dentistry to get an evaluation estimate of the cost for what dental work I needed. their website states "we would be happy to schedule a personal complimentary consultation." But that means the doctor will talk, but NOT EXAMINE you. If he looks in your mouth, which is the only reason I can think of to talk to a dentist, they charge $100. They also will not talk to you without x-rays and that is another $70+. The results are you will pay for an estimate. If your car mechanic, your beautician, your builder, or your restaurant all charged for their estimates you would pay for absolutely nothing, but No Fear will all enjoy spending your money and you will still have the same cavities, dented car, mussed hair and look for a free kitchen to get something to eat. read more

After visiting a different dentist and basically giving up all hope of being able to afford quality care I remembered previously meeting Doctor Dave. I remembered him to be a really good guy so I figured why not see what he had to offer. From the moment I walked in I felt valued, not only as a potential client, but as a person. I explained my needs to Doctor Dave and he was very understanding. I never felt judged for my (mostly self-imposed) dental dilemma or my tight finances. He took the time to explain all of my options and even suggested that I break up some of the treatments in order to allow my insurance to better meet my needs. I left that day with tears of hope in my eyes. They have been my dentist ever since and I am pleased beyond words with the care they have given. I went here to get a second opinion on my fillings that I needed to get done. They offer a free consultation so I stopped in and met with Dr Duccommun (sp?). He was very professional and even took me back to a room to take a look. He gave me an estimate and talked about my options. He wasn't pushy at all. Just gave me my options and told me to avoid amalgam fillings if I got fillings done elsewhere. Very nice guy. The office itself smells heavenly. They bake cookies there and the odor wafts around the office. Also the chairs in the procedure areas have memory foam and are so comfy. It is definitely a good place if you are afraid of dental work. They are pricier when you are paying out of pocket but not outrageously so. Cool place! I didn't really care for my dentist (mostly the hygienist) that I had been seeing at another clinic, so I decided to try out Madison No Fear Dentistry. The staff there are very nice - took the time to get to know you, and discussed your fears or why you don't like going to the dentist. I got my teeth cleaned and had some X-rays done and had them check out a tooth that had been bothering me. They have a lot of new high tech equipment there, which is cool - BUT most insurances don't cover the imaging and special things that they can do. The tooth that I had them look at was an infected root canal which they wanted to take this special imaging of, it was going to cost several hundred dollars. They said that they couldn't do anything further until I had this special X-ray. I went to another specialist who was able to look at a basic X-ray that was taken and was able to provide treatment. Also when I was at Madison No Fear Dentistry they told me I really needed to replace my silver fillings with white ones. I'm sorry - but I'm not fixing what isn't broken! They were wanting me to do all this dental work, and have these high tech things done, which I felt were not highly necessary. read more

Well, I am not fake but REAL and I know because I just pinched myself before I began typing. If you would please humor me as to reading my tale of experience with this office, it may clear up some concerns out there. I had had a cavernous hole in my back molar which for 3 weeks had began singing a tune in my brain that was causing my eyes to water. Any of you who have experienced a severe tooth issue can relate. Well, I had recently rettrieved my job after a time off (ahem) and had not as of late aquired any dental insurance. So as my mouth head and entire being was being attacked and invaded by pending infection and pain to make you close to suicide, i was in panic mode and had to consult the mightly YELP for advise and for whom to visit in this time of serious crisis. I found the name of David Ducommun, and it being approx 11 pm on a Friday Eve, I decided to just shoot him a Panicked cry for Help via E MAil. When awakening the following morning the severity of said cavernous hole was not only singing it's own version of "cry me a river" but was belting out some Janis Joplin song done Roseanne Barr style. I subsequently had to call my place of employment and forewarn them that I would not only be late but was also in search of a tooth puller. At that point I would have settled for Tim Taylor's pliers. Come 8 am, the pain worsening more i was still lying in dismal fear and worry and about to call random area dentists when my phone rang and it was David D calling me hImself in response to my plea for help!! i almost felt like a fog lifted and there was Jesus Himself ! David had over the phone taken my information, faxed to my pharmacy me an antibiotic prescription to cure any infection, then went the extra mile (or 2) to drop off pain killers at my place of employment before i even arrived there so that I may carry out my day. He then set up a Monday appointment to take care of the issue at hand. His only concern being my comfort and wellness.WHAT!?? WHO DOES THAT?? Now that being said, My early Monday appointment was welcomed with the most eloquently efficient detailed and humorous when needed, young woman who introduced me to the surroundings with a tour and an understanding I have never ever received as a guest anywhere. (thanks Hillary you rock) Hillary also stayed with me for the entire visit, knowing that these tense situtaions are not pleasant. Another first. My dental needs were performed by Keith Dobracki who was beyond proffessional and caring,super understanding and exteremely patient. A beautiful presence led by extreme proffesionlism. Not stuffy nor arrogant, .just perfection warmth and precision. What started as extreme pain and fear , ended as a resolvement to an important health issue. Insurance or not. They at No Fear saved me. So..any of you out there who think some of these reviews are forced or faked or maybe someone has a gun up to the heads of people to make them type, i for one can guaranty you that this office is ALL the postive reviewers say it is. The office is nice and they do have a lot of "perks" - baking bread and cookies, warm neck wraps, comfy chairs etc. But Dr. Caitlin is an incompetent dentist that has ruined my life- and yes- I am not exaggerating. I had two deep fillings filled by Dr. Caitlin. Mind you- at my old dentist I have MANY deep filling. Deeper than the ones she filled. Those have been fine for years. BOTH of the ones Dr. Caitlin did are now root canal teeth. Why is this a big deal aside from the money? Well- I have an autoimmune disease and root canals are a huge factor in autoimmune disease. Not only have I had heightened autoimmune symptoms since my first root canal- now I have to go in for #2. I'm at the point where I might just have teeth pulled. Dr. Ducommun and the entire staff are the wonderful! I feel sorry for the reviewer Elizabeth K. because she did not experience the the same dentist that our whole family uses. Dr. Ducommun is easy going and very cognizant that he needs to speak in layman's language to explain what is going on with our mouths. I never feel that he is condescending, just that he wants us to understand and presents several treatment plans to chose from. His staff is top-notch! Always helpful and they ARE interested in your life. When we ran up against our end of year flex spending, the office manager was willing to help us from her home! I had my wisdom teeth out, and not only did I get follow up calls from the staff, Dr. Ducommun himself checked on me that evening! Talk about old-fashioned customer service! Who does that any more?! I've never had tooth sensitivity until Dr. Caitlin Kudlata incompetently worked on a filling. Afterwords, not only do I have serious cold/hot sensitivity, Dr. Kudlata has the nerve to blame me for my tooth's continued sensitivity! She now asserts that I grind my teeth, and that supposedly is the reason for the sensitivity. WRONG. Dr. Kudlata-YOU are the reason. You did a poor job on the filling the first time, which is why you had to fix it a few months later. Now, a month or so after the second go-around, there is still no improvement in the tooth's sensitivity. (Probably because you did a piss-poor job again) Now, after another visit, Dr. Kudlata recommends a $1300 crown for my tooth that isn't covered by my State benefits. Seriously?! You ruined my tooth/filing, now you want to charge me $1300 to fix your mistake??! Not. Gonna. Happen. I'm finding a new dentist. RUN from this dental practice if you can! At the very least, RUN from Dr. Caitlin Kudlata. She's incompetent and deceitful. read more

My son went to him for a routine cleaning, albeit overdue. My son walked out with a treatment plan in excess of $1200.00 for 11 cavities. Now, since he has never had a cavity in his entire life, he drove back home to have our regular dentist exam him. The xrays from this office were of poor quality so our dentist had to repeat them, and lo and behold my son has maintained his perfect record of zero cavities.....They say to get a second opinion for surgeries and other procedures.....seems to hold true to dental issues too. We moved to the Madison area a little over a year ago. I had very frightening dental experiences as a child, and therefor have not taken the best care of my teeth as an adult, avoiding dentists at all costs. When I met Dr. Ducommun at a women's expo in Madison, I liked his demeanor, and his assistant seemed very nice as well. They were offering a free whitening service if I signed up for an exam, so I did. I surprised myself and actually went to the exam! The difference between this Dentist and others who claim to be "no fear" is that Dr. Ducommun actually takes the time and LISTENS to what your unique fear is, and comes up with possible solutions, letting YOU be in control. I went in for a filling and a crown. I am so surprised at myself but happy that I tooK the leap of faith and trusted him and his assistant. My husband lost his job soon after that and we had to move to Fort Wayne because that is where my husband found work. But as soon as were are finished paying for the crown that I have, I am taking the trip back to WI to have the rest of my work done. It may sound crazy but yes, they are THAT good. read more

NOT A HOLISTIC DENTIST!!! They come up in google as holistic, I went there believing they were. When I asked, my dentist, he said he was because he treats patients like they are a whole person instead of just a tooth. He also, had to admit he doesn't actually practice Holistic dentistry!That aside, I didn't care for the tour when I arrived. The sheer fact that they have a staff gym in their office tells me I'm paying them too much. They bake bread and cookies to cover the chemical smell, clearly neglecting the fact that diabetics tend to avoid bakeries! Other than that my dentist was good, he missed my cracked tooth but wanted to watch most of my cavities, rather than filling right away. I was very comfortable and treated well overall. If you want a REGULAR dentist that will gas you, and drug you enough to not care about your procedure this is the one for you! Not holistic though. read more

I used to be a person who did not fear the dentist until I had a bad experience while getting a cavity filled a few months back. I was scheduled to go back to that same dentist a month later for one more cavity filliing. Needless to say I was super nervous as that appointment approached. The morning of that appointment I was getting super anxious, ad kinda started freaking out. I called the office and actually cancelled that appointment purely because I was wussing out. I decided to give Madison No Fear a call right after canceling. I thought there might be a slight possibility that I could get in that morning, which wold be great since I had already hired a babysitter for the morning. Madison No Fear was great. I explained the bad experience, and my anxiety, and that I cancelled my appointment. They actually got me in, literally 15 minutes after calling. I was able to get a comprehensive exam, x-rays, etc.... They even waived the first exam fee. The definitely saw cavities from the photos, and set up a cavity filling plan for me. A few weeks later I came in for the cavity filling. I was nervous, but not like I was for the other appointment. I had relaxing gas, a warm neck pillow, a warm blanket, head phones with a tv right above my head. I was being such a baby about the process, but they assured me it was okay, and did all they could to help me relax. Dr. Dave was in and out super quick, he did an awesome job. I won't be going back to this place. If I go to a dentist, I want in and out quickly. Time was taken up with an unnecessary tour of the building. Then, I was asked so many personal questions by both the assistant and the doctor, that they now know more about me than my friends do. An offer of bread and cookies after the visit was an insult to me. Who does that? I neither eat desserts, and only occasionally bread, with sugar and gluten as my concerns not to mention dairy that I avoid altogether! To top all that off, I was not given an alternative (I know there are some) to an injection of epinephrine which I have severe reaction to. In fact, was refused treatment without it. My son has told me that he had a fear of the dentist and we felt No Fear would be the way to go. Our first visit wasn't any better then going to our family dentist. A hygentist that wasn't a regular did the first cleaning with nothing to calm his fears. No gas, which I thought would be the best way to treat at first and see where things went. Took almost a year to get him to go again. Second girl seemed to know what she was doing, but he still had apprehension in the chair. Then the treatment plan came and wow. over ten thousand dollars. Got a second option from a local well trusted dentist and he could save thousands. Just got done with the first visit and what great experience with Dr P. Granted he gave him a valium, which I had asked for at NFD, but they were not real willing to do that. The nitrous gas was a MUCH better experience at our new dentist.
