I have had great experiences with Madison Veterinary Hospital. I took one of my cats, Minerva, there about 2 weeks after I adopted her because she seemed lethargic. Dr. Orr gave us a preliminary diagnosis of FIP, and their office worked with us and other specialists to confirm the diagnosis and manage the disease as best as possible. I took another cat, Molly, there for routine visits, and it looked like she had allergies to vaccines. Dr. Williams made sure to prevent reactions from her next round of vaccines, which went off without a hitch. Yesterday morning, one of my cats, Socks, vomited blood. We called and were able to get an appointment right away. Dr. Orr did surgery yesterday afternoon and Socks is home safe now. In every instance, their office has been very communicative; always willing to answer questions when I call and calling me with updates when they say they're going to. They have recommended other services when needed, including after hours emergency and specialists that have also been excellent. If I ask for am estimate, they provide one, and they have checked with me before performing any additional procedures. Their in house pet pharmacy is a great convenience and their prices for services are reasonable. In addition to the great care Dr. Orr and Dr. Williams have shown my cats, their front desk and vet tech staff have always been polite to me and loving to my cats. I feel like I can trust Madison Vet Hospital and would recommend them to anyone seeking care for their pets. read more

Rates for pet checkup and boarding are extremely high. We have been using Madison Veterinary Hospital for several years. Thirty dollars a night for cat boarding and seventy dollars for a cat checkup is ridiculous! There should be a serious discount y for over twenty years of using their doctors and facility. read more

I am very happy with the way they take care of my Heinz. He has a mess of problems (surgery Monday) but he is not ready to go yet. Dr. Estes & Dr. Sheehan (have been wonderful & understanding) as well as their assistants & staff. My partner and I found 2 dogs wandering the road and needed to find somewhere to take them to be chipped and find an owner. Upon googling nearby vets that were open (it was a Saturday), MVH was the only one open! We called to let them know we were on the way and they provided leashes and waters for the pups when we got in. 2 visits. Less than 2 weeks. Over 700 dollars. I sent an email to express my concerns but the response I was given did not address my concerns. So all I can do is post a review to express my concerns. This was our first time using Madison Veterinarian. We finally captured our cat after she was on the run outside for a couple of months.. We explained to the vet about her being out and pointed out the neck scab/hair loss around neck. Our cat had to be anesthetized in order to fully examine her. After a couple of shots and a clean bill of health which cost over 500 dollars we thought all was good. Nope, we had to bring her back a week later in which we saw another veterinarian. We were told she had a fungus on her neck in which she received an antibacterial shot and wipes. Why this was not caught the first time even after pointing it out.. no idea. He loves going and I receive a report card documenting his progress after each visit. After today I will NOT be going back. I was treated soo rudely today after trying to get one of my cats in due to an emergency. They couldn't even squeeze me in...I would have been willing to wait. I was pretty much told I would have to travel 40 min away to an emergency clinic. Gone are the days of Dr Faulkner (may he Rest In Peace). I called Geneva Veternary hospital and they got me in TODAY! Save yourself the headache and avoid this place. They continuously raise their pricing even though the teenagers that run this place have no clue and cannot follow simple directions. They will nickel and dime you at ever turn. Example I take my dog in to be groomed and they add a $50 exam fee to it??? Would strongly recommend not using this place. read more

Everyone at Madison Veterinary Hospital provides outstanding care for my two dachshunds, Baxter & Bernie. They go there every day for unleashed camp, and they also have all of their grooming and medical care handled there. The entire staff spoils my babies just like I do. I always know that they will get the best care at Madison Veterinary Hospital, and that they treat them with absolute, genuine loving care. The staff always goes above and beyond to make sure my boys are in tip-top shape! I wish I could name specific team members but I would name ALL of them!! From the front reception desk folks, to the vet techs, the veterinarians, the kennel, camp, medical and grooming staff...they have ALL had a hand in caring for Baxter & Bernie and I couldn't thank them enough!! I am troubled to give such a low review, but feel this is important. Have been here twice with our pooch. Once was for regular shots, etc., and second was dropping him off for boarding, bath, nails and Bordatella. All seems fine, with the exception of the nail trim (I would do them myself, but he has a few which are black and I would rather a "pro" grind them). I made a mistake by not requesting they be ground down, instead of just clipping. The individual who checked us in made a mistake by not offering an up-sale. A few more bucks is no problem, especially considering the results. Either way, this is not something I'm happy with. Our dog has done nothing but lick the too-short nails or sleep since we got home. He's in pain, and there's really nothing we can do aside from a light OTC med ok for dogs. Note #1: The sleeping is of course typical. He's a goof who loves playing with others and is always worn out when he comes home from a boarder. I'll be seeking a groomer in the future. The presence of blood on his feet is disturbing, especially after a stay at a vet hospital. Note #2: I would give them 5 stars on the customer service. They've always been great on the phone and in person. I would give them zero stars on the grooming aspect. So, basically, I split the difference. read more

I went for my dog's annual exam and came out with the $820.20 payment !! The only problem my dog had was the yeast infection on her feet, and that alone, they charged me $114.38. After applying the prescribed medicines for two weeks, the dog's feet did not improve at all (no change at all). And when I called them back, they told me I had to see doctor again and do more examinations. Later on, I realized that there are many counter-top medicines (inexpensive and very effective) for dogs' yeast infection treatment. They are swindlers !! read more

Been going here since 1995 and very unhappy with how things have changed since then. It's like going to a car mechanic--you get overcharged for things that are not always necessary and then don't do the things you trust a prudent clinician would do once you leave your loved pet in their care. They have a pretty website, clinic is always nice and "spiffy" looking, everyone is polite; but their interest lies in your checkbook and not your pet. Poor communication or vagueness in their treatment plan until after they've taken your dog back and "do what is necessary"--then they hand you a bill without even discussing every item prior. Have heard complaints from others regarding the same. read more

My HEALTHY cat was boarded here and upon picking him up he was lethargic, ataxic, and had trouble breathing. Despite another vet's attempts to save his life, he sadly passed away. Not only are the circumstances surrounding his sudden illness and death suspicious, but I was never notified of any decline in his health condition, nor did the vet staff realize anything was wrong with him when they prepared him for me and handed him back over to me at pickup. His death is currently under investigation. The dog I brought for boarding was turned over to me soaked in urine; again, the staff did not notice this. How is that even possible? Please don't patronize this business. At least I could wash my dog at home. My dear cat paid with his life. read more

My dog as a pup got her Bordetella shot here 9 months ago with Dr. Orr. As I understand, it is something that is only needed yearly, per their shot record reminders. I had boarded my dog for 7 nights and about 3 days later she showed symptoms of what I now know is kennel cough. (3-4 incubation period, by the way) I have zero experience with it, and could only see that she was hacking and vomiting every 10-20 minutes. I brought her in to Dr. Orr in the morning who said she would observe Pippa. 3 hours later, Dr. Orr called and said Pippa never vomited. (She didn't mention any other symptomatic behavior either) I expressed my disbelief and made a joke about how Pippa did this every 10 minutes around me and then nothing around the doctor. I returned to the hospital to pick Pippa up. As she was being brought up to the front, Dr. Orr came out and said Pippa pulled on her leash and vomited. So Dr. Orr ran x-rays and tests and we decided to give Pippa a strong anti-nausea shot since she probably had gastritis. I was told if she vomited WITHIN 30 minutes, something was seriously wrong, like a blockage, and she would likely need exploratory surgery! Well, Pippa coughed, hacked, and vomited 3 times within 20 minutes after I left so I brought her back in, pretty scared and upset at this point. The desk admin went to Dr. Orr then came back and told me that the Dr. said to wait AFTER 30 minutes for vomiting, so I was turned away. I left even more upset and waited 2 or so hours while Pippa slept (We had been up since 3:00 AM with this) but she would still periodically cough and hack. I couldn't wait longer, so I brought her back, around the time Dr. Orr was leaving. Dr. Williams had Pippa for about 10 minutes or less and called to tell me she was afraid Pippa needed emergency exploratory surgery since she was reacting with pain and tenderness in the abdomen (I imagine being poked and prodded in the stomach all day, anyone would be feeling tenderness and pain at that point) I'm guessing Dr. Orr or a chart briefed Dr. Williams on Pippa's history that day which probably lead her to this assumption. I rushed back, got Pippa, and took her to the emergency clinic they told me about. The vet there told me instantly, after witnessing Pippa's coughing, hacking, vomiting, that it was just kennel cough. And he was right. He was very through in examining her and observing her behavior (right in front of me) and said that was not a dog suffering from a blockage. He even pressed her trachea and caused her to have another cough fit and said that happens with kennel cough. (Leash pulling?!) Pippa had been on the meds for 2 days and her cough decreased significantly with certainly no vomiting at all. I cannot tell you how upset and distressed I was throughout this whole ordeal at both the complete lack of due diligence and lack of concern exercised by Dr. Orr. Pippa adores the unleashed dog day camp and staff, but I cannot trust this vet and hospital for boarding or medical services any more. Of course, this all cost quite a lot of money in addition to the distress and inconvenience I and my poor dog went through that day. read more
