    Tandoori Chicken
    Grace K.

I had a decent time visiting Madras Masala recently with a friend. I ordered the tandoori chicken dish. It came with a dipping sauce and vegetables on the side which were a nice complement to the zesty, flavorful chicken. Service could've been faster, but it was also a busy evening with many customers in the restaurant. The ambiance is casual and cozy. Will definitely be back!

I only come here maybe once a year when I visit my sister for the holidays. I travel a lot and love trying new foods wherever I go, and I can confidently say this is the best or definitely top 5 Indian restaurants I've had around the world. Nestled in Ann Arbor, the service and friendliness of the restaurant is unrivaled. I have never been so sweetly greeted and treated by nicer people. Front of house, the server was incredible, giving us options and recommendations. We have some gluten free in the party and she made sure everything was ok for our party. We order so many dishes: paper dosas (they're massive!), chicken pasanda (also known as Mughal Chicken), aloo palak, daal makhani, and chicken Manchurian (Indo-Chinese!!!!!!) I am so sorry if I misspelled anything. Anyways, dish after dish was a banger, with incredible spice and freshness. If you are worried about how spicy something is, they will make anything to your level if you ask! At the end of the meal, she brought the kids a few slices of cake. How incredible is that. We love this place and I will always rave about how great they are. Super family friendly with books and stuffed animals to entertain kids. It's a great place for families and they offer a little discount if you are a family, a student, a senior, and possibly if you pay cash. 100/10 stars

We got ravadosa, masala dosa and kofta with rice. I think masala dosa is different in every restaurant. This masala dosa was almost paper dosa with no potato stuffing in the dosa but outside. The tomato chutney was a good add on for the dosas. I had kofta and rice, I'd prefer spicier version! Make sure you ask for a bit more spicy if you have Indian spice tolerance, else it's good

Decent Indian food with friendly service! Ambiance & Service: Order at the front, get a buzzer, and pick up your food when ready. Clean space with plenty of seating. The friendly owner even let us stay past closing to finish our meal! Food: - Papri Chaat: Flavorful and a great starter! - Paneer Tikka Masala: Ordered spicy, but more like medium. Tasty but not exceptional. - Garlic Naan: 4 pieces, no complaints! TL;DR: Friendly service with a self-serve setup. Try the Papri Chaat and Tikka Masala!

I ordered this Indian hot spice... why did he only let me have medium?
    Seriously D.

Food is still tasty, but it's not what I ordered I ordered some vegetable Kurma, Indian hot requested... Came out mild Wonder why they won't give me hot?

Casual place where you order at the counter, they give you a pager, you have to go grab paper plates, disposable utensils & napkins, then you bring your food on a tray to a table. I think it's fine to eat there but don't expect much but we noticed most people order carry out. They also have a free parking lot in the back so that's convenient. This is the first Indian place in a long time, where ordering a spice level of Hot, actually means HOT! I honestly might get Medium next time! I got the chicken vindaloo (comes with rice) & my friend got the Malai Koftka mild. There are cups for water and plenty of seating. I would go back as the food tasted good and our food came out fast.

Unfortunately, due to the rainy weather, they weren't offering the buffet that day. The three of us opted to order a la carte and squeezed into a comfortable booth. While glancing at the menu, I noticed entire pages dedicated to dosas, biriyanis, and Indo-Chinese dishes. In hindsight, we probably should've gotten at least one dish from each section, but we weren't really in the mood for dosas or the Indo-Chinese entrees at the time. GARLIC NAAN - 3.49 The garlic naan is a must-order. Each order comes with four quarter pieces, and I honestly could've eaten the entire basket myself. It's topped with plenty of minced garlic and is flavorful enough to enjoy on its own. PANEER TIKKA MASALA - 14.99 The tikka masala leaned heavily on the creamy side and was much less tomato-forward than I prefer -- savory with very little tomato sweetness. There were a few small pieces of tomato, onion, and possibly peppers, along with the paneer. While the paneer was good, there weren't many pieces overall. I enjoyed the dish, but I would've preferred a more tomato-based curry. VIJAYAWADA CHICKEN BIRYANI - 15.99 Highly recommended by our trusted source and echoed by multiple Yelp reviews, this was easily the star of our meal. The rice was fragrant and packed with aromatics, and the chicken was cut very small, almost minced. It was incredibly flavorful and unapologetically spiced, unlike many Indian restaurants in the area that tone things down for the American palette. This biryani did not hold back. While I generally prefer bite-sized chicken for the texture, I can see how the finely chopped chicken absorbs the spice better and distributes the flavor more evenly throughout the rice. That said, I do wish there had been more chicken overall so every bite included some. GOAT KORMA - 17.99 This was a pretty standard, nutty, creamy korma. Unfortunately, most of the goat pieces were very bony, with some pieces being straight up bone. I felt a bit cheated since this is a pricier entree. My friend has a much higher spice tolerance palette than his wife and me, so I only had a few bites before returning to milder dishes. Overall, this is probably the most spice-forward Indian restaurant I've been to in this area, and it genuinely felt like all of my taste buds were waking up with every bite. I highly recommend the Vijayawada Chicken Biryani, especially if you've never had it before, as it's not something I see often at Indian restaurants. The flavors are phenomenal, and next time I'll be back for a lassi, a dosa, and one of their Indo-Chinese dishes.

The egg masala is very good and their spice is on point (my "medium" was perfect. Love the option of the egg, and it came with 3 eggs in the sauce. Their garlic naan is very good, it's one big flatbread cut into two pieces. Nice flavor and the dough still has some bite to it -- not too soft or too crispy. I'd like to dine in sometime for a legit dosa experience -- the photos look awesome. :) Love this option is in our neighborhood, and they are super friendly. A great Indian spot on this side of Ann Arbor.

First of all beautiful place simple nothing super fancy very family style atmosphere. Secondly service was quick and pleasant came in on a Sunday evening. Most tables were full, which was surprising for the day of the week and the time which was around 6:30 PM. My husband and I couldn't decide between two starters so we got the samosas and the veg. I can't remember what they're called but they were amazing. Then I got the stew with lamb, a huge portion everything was cooked to perfection seasoned very well. I would definitely get medium next time because mild was full of flavor, but it was mild and I like a little spice. My got the lamb in a tomato and yogurt sauce absolutely amazing tasting the lamb was so soft so succulent and they did not skimp mango. Lassie tasted like they had blended it fresh before they brought it out cool smooth and delicious. My only knock on it was the Naha it was one piece cut in half and I thought it could've been rolled out a little thinner and cooked a little longer however, I will definitely be back again and again and again do not miss this place.

I would highly recommend you try this. Got it spicy and it did have a kick, if not into spicy food, get it medium. I also like the chicken masala. For the rest of other dishes, they were decent. Naan was ok and honestly speaking had better naan at other establishments. The lamb curry was different than what I had expected and the their biryani wasn't fluffy as I had expected. I will be back, as there are other dishes that I would like to try. The service was good, friendly staff and plenty of parking space.

I have never had a bad dish here. Vegetarian or not everything has been absolutely delicious!!!!…read more The 3 of us could easily choose our appetizer. IT IS A MUST HAVE!!!!! A shareable platter of garlic bread, vegan basil-cashew pesto, fresh tomato-basil relish, Kalamata olive tapenade and choice of sesame-crusted Goat cheese or house-made almond 'cheese' (Order with almond cheese to be vegan; Substitute gluten-free garlic bread to be gluten free). SERIOUSLY PEOPLE-IT'S A MUST!!! Unlike my sweet sister I try something different every time we come. The three of us had different meals last night. I had a cup of white bean and kale soup. It had diced carrots, onion, celery and sweet potatoes in a delicious broth. So savory and warm, the kale had obviously been rubbed and was as tender as could be. I ordered another appetizer instead of a full meal. I had the General Tso's fresh Cauliflower with a very light tempura batter sprinkled with sesame seeds in a sweet and sour chili sauce-It was the right amount of heat and I found it just right in terms of quantity for my dinner. My sister had the Taco Salad-which she raves about. I have yet to try it, but it looks delicious. Ingredients include; Romaine, fresh corn salsa, black beans, sweet potatoes, avocado, pumpkin seeds, and corn chips, with your choice of Chihuahua cheese or vegan mozzarella, and your choice of sour cream or vegan cucumber ranch, with house made salsa on the side (Choose vegan mozzarella and cucumber ranch to be vegan, Gluten free.) My brother-in-law was the smartest one of all of us as he ordered the restaurant week meal which included appetizer main course, salad & dessert! I'll post the restaurant week menu below. It was fabulous. since it was still happy hour I ordered a Mocktail- Iced Ginger Spritzer Ginger, lemon, agave and soda, on ice. Wow- super ginger forward. He also had a Mocktail: A Solar Blast containing Orange, grapefruit, lime and ginger, on ice. (Mmmmmm-refreshing!) He had the white bean & kale cup of soup. He chose the Gomadore Udon -a beautiful bowl. Brown rice and Udon noodles in a mushroom broth. Silky tofu, mung bean sprouts, carrots, zucchini, green onion and kale. Veggies blanched but still crisp. What a great entrée for a below 0° day. It was finished with a rich sesame Gomodore Sauce. There was a farro grain salad with it. His dessert was a Lavender Lemon Bar which he described as heavenly. No doubt about it- this was an exquisite meal. Our server was great. He stayed on top of everything without being intrusive. The ambience here is subtle and casual. Nice long bar area and plenty of dining space. We called ahead as they will add you to a wait list and we would highly encourage that you do the same. This is a well loved restaurant that has been here nearly forever!!!! Do yourself a favor -if you are in A2 go to the west side and dine here!!

We had the Hummus Nirvana and California Scramble with Tofu. Both dishes were delicious!read more
