I recently flew into Orcas Island Airport and was told this was the place to eat. I was excited to check it out, but the experience was nothing short of a disaster. From the moment we walked in, we were completely ignored--no greeting, no acknowledgment, nothing. Several tables were open, yet the staff acted like we didn't exist. After standing around for a while, I called the restaurant to ask if there was a wait. The person on the phone casually said, "No, come on in." I told her our group was already inside, just waiting to be seated, and her response? "Oh, we're super busy." No apology, no effort to help--just indifference. We waited another ten minutes after that call, and still, not a single word from the staff. At that point, it was clear they had zero interest in serving us. The complete lack of professionalism and basic courtesy was unbelievable. If this is how they treat customers, I wouldn't waste a single dollar here. So disappointed. Avoid this place if you can, ESPECIALLY if you have allergies--I got sick! I've here just about every summer growing up. We have liver in the San Juans during the summer months for over 20 years now. I was SO excited to come back and bring my friend who was visiting the PNW for the first time. Sadly, our experience here was extraordinarily awful. For starters, it took about 15 minutes just to get a table together--as in just set it up for our party. It was a large group, sure, but they were moving exceptionally slow, especially given there was close to no one there and no party in front of us. As soon as we sat, we were informed they were out of fresh fish (a restaurant on the water in the San Juans!!!) I asked if they could do the fish tacos with salmon instead but our waitress lamely said "oh well they don't have enough materials for that either". The waitress was pretty average and not particularly nice or helpful. I informed her of my gluten and dairy allergy and she didn't seem to take that seriously or try to be accommodating. I ended up ordering the pesto chicken on a gf bun with no cheese--after clearly asking if the pesto was dairy free and being told that it was (without her checking). Once the food came, there must've been a shift change because we had a new waitress who was somewhat nicer. My food came and the side salad had fried onions on top, so I explained I couldn't eat that because I had a gluten allergy. She quickly brought me a new plate and salad, sans gluten. Given the lapse in allergy care, I asked her if the pesto was dairy free to which she confidently and immediately said "yes". So I dug in. I will also note here my dad said his salmon sandwich was inedible and many others complaints were made about how much the quality of the food went down. Additionally our Moscow mules tasted like ginger beer and only ginger beer. So a disappointing dinner all around. But the worst part is that 10-15 minutes later, after we left, I started to feel sick, like I ate something I was allergic to. I called back and asked the person who answered to inquire about the pesto sandwich, if it was all gluten free when on a gf bun and if the pesto had dairy in it. Again, she said she was pretty sure they were fine and so I insisted she ask the kitchen. After a brief hold, she came back and let me know the pesto WAS NOT dairy free and had parmesan in it. Aaaand then I threw up. Soooo don't come here unless you want to waste your time and money on badly mixed drinks, inconsistent food, and pretty awful service. It truly is really sad to have to say. OMG. Really. You're on an island surrounded by fish yet this place figured out how to f up a fish restaurant. Not that it matters as there are very little options to eat on Orca Island but I highly recommend skipping this place. I got 1 oz of dried up salmon for three tacos, breading with a trace of crab in the crab cakes and the prices are outrageous for what you get. I'll never recommend or come back. read more

A lot of restaurants on Orcas were closed on a Monday so my family opted to go to Madrona Bar & Grill for dinner, to take advantage of their outdoor seating during COVID and enjoy the view. Yes it was a bit chilly but I sucked it up... dad was paying after all, and my pretty pink cocktail was tastyy! The cocktail contained grapefruit rose flavored vodka, grapefruit juice, lemon and sparkling wine?? Served up in a festive coupe glass. It was fruity and floral without being too sweet. I would definitely order the drink again. I think it was called The Rose something ($12). Now this isn't really the best spot to go if you're a vegan, but I'm more lenient and will consume dairy, eggs, and seafood on occasion so it worked out okay for me. I wasn't wanting fish so I opted for the Veggie Burger, which comes on a brioche bun (not vegan), with cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and garlic aioli. I asked for regular mayo instead since garlic and my stomach don't get along, and opted for the House Salad with balsamic dressing as my side. Trying to be healthy over here okay! Although fries would have been good. I forgot to say "no cheese" while ordering but our waitress was able to update the cook and my burger arrived hot and cheeseless, thank you! The mayo came on the side so I spread that on my tender brioche bun along with some table ketchup, and flung the onions my mom's way. The burger was pretty good, some avocado and pickle would have been nice but I can't complain too much. The patty tasted familiar and contained actual veggies (which I like), not like the patties pretending to be ground beef. The dressing was served on the side as well, so I was able to lightly dress to taste. The greens were pretty fresh and were topped with tomato, carrots, cucumber and crispy shallots? It was better than the salads I remember from past visits. I think my dinner was around $13. My sister and mom split a House Salad ($10) and the 2-piece beer battered Alaskan cod Fish and Chips ($18), which looked great! The fish was thick, hot and crispy on the outside. They enjoyed their meal. My dad ordered the Grilled Salmon ($28) which included garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables... the salmon was cooked medium (hooray for moist, tender fish) and it was served hot. My dad like his dish as well. Overall it was a pleasant experience, although the outdoor chairs are uncomfortable and a table four 4 was a bit crammed on the deck. It was nice to be able to walk in without a reservation around 6 and not have to wait for a table, even though the place was pretty full. Came for lunch today the staff was very friendly we only waited 5 min for an outside table. The wait was really long for our food my husband's burger was what looked like a Costco burger..my steamers were $20 and had 6 with no clams I was still hungry and I don't eat a whole lot the bread with it was dry the sauce was just liquid and garlic very bland and cold and it came out after my kids and husband's. Honestly the kids fish and chips and chicken tenders were better than both ours. I loved this place over the years but the mark up for basic food I'm guessing it's because of the view but u could go next door for outdoor dining and cheaper food read more

The wait for things took quite awhile. Which normally isn't a problem. However, by the time our party received our second order of drinks (one of us didn't get ours and eventually were told a keg was tapped) we were quickly given our bill. We paid it and shortly thereafter were more or less asked to leave because another party needed the table. Our bill for lunch was over $200, and our party was still finishing their drinks. There were many tables totally open. If they had a large group waiting they seemingly could have put tables together or split their group if they really needed to be seated immediately. So we had a party of 13 tonight and decided to dine here after a beautiful, active day on Orcas island with friends and young children. We all arrive promptly ten minutes before our reservation time (which was scheduled for 7:30pm) and the host informs us that the party that is at occupying our table came 20 min late and was still seated lingering after their meal was completed. They will try to clear their table as soon as they can. We wait patiently for 20 min and check in with host again who says they are now deciding how to split the bill even though it takes longer and it clearly says they don't split checks on bottom of menu. It is aggravating at this point and someone from our party asked the host if we could just split our party and sit at separate tables, considering there were more than 8 two top tables we could easily fit at. The host denies our request and says those are going to be occupied by other reservations. This is quite upsetting. So does that mean their reservation is honored before our party, who also have a reservation and have waiting over 25 min at this point? It certainly felt there was a complete lack of training on basic service expectations. Why wasn't the party who showed up late not told because they came 20 min late they have to leave by the arrival of the next reservation? Every reputable restaurant I've ever dined at abides by this simple and fair policy. It was achingly hard to watch that entire table sit idly and pass time occupying our reserved table without any of the host or wait staff informing them of this issue. Hospitality 101. It was very obvious the servers and host did not communicate with the lingering party of the situation at hand. Just to note after I discussed this issue with our server Travis, we were seated at around 8pm, put in orders at 8:05p, 35 min past our reservation time. First orders arrived at 8:29pm, and last order arrived at 8:43pm. Food was inconsistent with some food being overly salty while some food was good. Also when settling the bill, someone from our party asked if we could split checks since we saw the table before us do so, but they refused our party from doing so. Why are some diners allowed this privilege and other diners not? Sure felt like discrimination to me. I also want to note there was no service recovery offered at my table and when we asked Travis, our server if we could speak to manager, he walked away and then came back shortly later and said there was no manager present. I would love to speak to the owner of this restaurant and understand if this is how patrons are usually treated in this similar circumstance. read more

We were a party of 8 for late lunch at this place. The service was super slow even though the restaurant was half empty. All of our meat dishes (cheeseburgers and chicken sandwiches) came out burnt. Even the other dishes were bleh! We were too hungry to turn them back. Told the server and showed her the burnt food. We arrived right when they opened and the staff was a bit flustered, however, the manager on duty served us immediately and took good care of us, overall. We swung by around 4:30pm after returning from a orcas whale watching tour. Their kitchen didn't open until 5pm but they were happy to seat us and serve us drinks while we waited for the kitchen to open. We ordered the 2 pcs fish and chips, which was just enough food for me as I'm a small eater (the fish pieces were smaller than typical). We also ordered the grilled salmon which was very good, and came with very smooth and creamy mashed potatoes. Both the salmon and the tartar sauce in the fish & chips had a distinct flavor of dill, which I didn't mind as it's not something I usually cook with, so it made the dishes fresh and interesting for me! read more

Every time I called or showed up, the place was closed, or the kitchen was closed. Simple fix, establish hours and note them online.

Unfortunately there was not many restaurant choices on Orcas during our stay last week. Sadly, many establishments were closed due to shortage of service staff. We made early reservations well in advance checking the menu on line. Prices were a bit average to high as expected for Eastsound. Our waiter was very tall, and quite short on service. Seated and our greeting was the waiter approaching the table with opening line "Ready to order?" and arms folded in front of him. This was not at all expected this from a dine-in restaurant. Drinks were ordered and requested if possible to have 2 separate checks (1 for each couple), told not possible~ can only split the check down the middle. I can do the simple math by myself~ There were 2 seafood items on the menu (Salmon & Rockfish). Our waiter had to check to see if the 2 Rockfish we ordered were still available. (got last 2 @ 5:30pm?) Requested if we could sub mashed potatoes (served with the Salmon) in place of the polenta (not a fan). A few minutes after the food arrived, the waiter literally dashed past the table without stopping, we heard a faint "is the food okay?" I could have sworn he was talking to us! When the bill arrived, we were charged $5.00 extra sub charge. The plus side??? Blackened Rockfish was flavorful and nice portion, not especially hot (nor the potatoes), also served with vegetable puree' (bland). Pork Shank very mediocre review on flavor and texture Madrona burger: good, not over the top. View was pleasant overlooking the sound. This bar no only serves mediocre food but also tries to ban the negative reviews (at least my last one), I guess that is how they look better in yelp. they have nice views, you can go there if food is not the objective, but if it is probably you are better trying Voyager instead (sandwiches), it near by. There are not a lot of options in the island, so sometimes you just have to go to the lower quality places because its convenient or the others are full or closed. I am reposting the review I put before with the right adjustments to they cant block it again. The right way to get more stars is not to block negative opinions, its to provide better customer value. read more

I've been to Orcas 3 or 4 times and I'm pretty sure I've eaten at Madrona's every single time. It's very good food, a pretty standard American menu and the service is good. The prices are maybe slightly more than some places on the mainland, but you need to expect that when you're doing pretty much anything on an island. I think the atmosphere is cute and small-towny. The view of the bay is beautiful and very Northwestern. I think the only thing I don't love about this place is not even their fault: they always seem to be overly swamped with business and it becomes unbearably crowded and loud. I've now been there 2X's in the evening and once in the early afternoon, right as they opened. Every single time there has been a line out the door by the time I' e paid my check and left. read more
