He then started to go through the different wines. Provided us with what they do to make the wines and much more. Marti showed up who is the other owner and wine maker. She helped with the wine tasting, provided us an update on what they're doing and let me tell you they are above the curve on what they offer. No other wineries are doing the same thing. They've been incredible with the challenges that they may have faced but the wine is awesome. Then we sat around and we're able to talk like a large family and friends, try different wines and both Chris and Marti drank with us. Like I said they are unique and that's what makes this winery a great choice. You aren't going to get this same experience from the other wineries around. Love this place.. Before I forget we were blessed to have a sample tasting of the 2021 Sea Rows Blanc de Noir and let me tell you, get it while it lasts :)

Rudest owner on the island…read more If you enjoy being barked at by an agitated dog while the owner mocks your concerns, this is the place for you. We went out of our way to visit this winery, only to be met with total hostility. The owner's refusal to leash his incredibly obnoxious dog is irresponsible, but his attitude toward us was the real dealbreaker. My mother in law has been bit in the past, and was so uncomfortable. Plenty of other spots on Orcas Island actually value their customers, skip this one. The dog chased our car on the way out.

I'm taking this place down a couple stars for a few reasons. 1. They charge $5 for a tasting. Most places in Washington (outside of Woodinville) don't charge you for tasting, and if they do they waive it if you buy a bottle. Not here - you get charged no matter what. 2. They will not go the extra step to make a sale. They assume everything they have is wonderful (it's not) and you should buy it irrelevant to whether you've tried it. We love wine tasting, exploring new wineries and vineyards and most places we go we've found that once you've started a nice conversation with your pourer and they realize you actually want to taste wine and not get drunk, and then buy wine, they'll give you a couple more options if you're interested. Not here - what you see it what you get. 3. It's over-priced. The wines were average for Washington State, but they were charging high-end prices. I don't know of many wineries in Washington that are selling their malbecs for more than $20 a bottle.

I purchased a bottle of wine to go. However after speaking with Cole and understanding his other adventure it all made the most sense to me on the reasoning. If you're on the island, definitely check these guys out. They have other wines offered at the Doe Bay Wine Co, but stick to local and try the Orcas Project. What they are doing with all of the different wine makers helping make different wines for the Orcas Project is brilliant and provides everyone an opportunity to shine.
