Joe is amazing!!! He's very knowledgeable, professional, and just plain good at what he does. I am currently training my 3 year old pitbull rescue with anxiety issues. Joe has in 2 sessions helped me to understand how to best support her in changing and learning new behaviors. I have started to see massive changes in my dog! Before training with Joe she was lunging at family members, barking excessively, and lacking in confidence around new people and men. After our second session she is moving toward being off leash around new family members. She is doing a lot less barking. Responding to me when I correct her behavior. Not lunging at people. And she is growing in confidence daily as I work with her using Joe's techniques. Joe is always on time, and gives lots of information during each session. He's not pushy or salesy- trying to sell you more than you need. Joe gets to know you, your dog, your household, and your goals for your dog. He creates a plan specific to you and your goals for your dog and then gets you there in the fastest way possible. He's an excellent trainer!! Joe is very comfortable with dogs and their owners. He's confident and helps you to build confidence in yourself and your dog. I would recommend Joe to anyone looking to train their dog and I will certainly be using him again. read more

A complete waste of time and money. Unsettling would be an accurate description of our experience. Had an encouraging phone conversation and was really excited to work with Maggie. I paid for six sessions @ $1200 with the verbal assurance if all sessions were not used, remaining sessions would be refunded. Had some concerns about her skills after the first session and by the second session had stronger concerns about her capabilities and her lack of professionalism. Asked her to leave within ten minutes of the third session after she completely melted down and was personally attacking. Took getting an attorney involved to get refunded the remaining unused sessions after multiple requests. She was consistently late, appeared stressed when she arrived and made personal and political comments that were inappropriate. She was also extremely aggressive with our dog, yanking him without explanation. She made his behavior much worse. Disappointing and unnerving to have someone so clearly off balance come into your home to train your dog and you're wondering how to get them to leave without a meltdown. Would absolutely not recommend. read more

We've been working with Joe for a few weeks now and he's been great! We initially asked for help because our 4 year old hound and 6 month old lab mix were getting into fights. The dogs have responded well to Joe's techniques and haven't been in a fight since Joe first came out. He's helped us understand how to communicate effectively to them and emphasized the importance of consistency. So far we've only had one session with Joe, but we are in shock and awe at how well the techniques he taught us (in just an hour and a half!) are already working, and how we are actually enjoying the training. Not to be dramatic, but I can tell that the behavior changes we are seeing so soon are truly going to be life-changing for all of us, including our family and friends who our dogs regularly encounter. We have never done formal/professional training with any of them, and now I wish we had done it sooner. (Someone had recommended Maggie Marshall training on the Nextdoor app along with K9 Obedience which also seems like a great option, but K9 Obedience didn't have any upcoming training sessions, and we wondered if we needed at-home training anyway due to having three pups- this was definitely the right initial move for us!) Our three dogs include two Australian Shepherds under two years old, and a 9-year-old Corgi-Chihuahua mix. The chihuahua can be a real aggressive jerk and I honestly thought he was beyond trying to train (and his incessant barking rubbed off on one of our Australian Shepherds). The main things we wanted to work on were the dogs being calm when we have guests, walking on a leash, and being calm in the car. In one session, we were able to successfully get all three dogs to calm down and be quiet as soon as Joe left (no more barking at every little thing for the rest of the day), and then the next day when someone came over we were able to put the new techniques we learned to the test and they worked WONDERS. Normally their barking would be relentless and make it extremely difficult to have a conversation. I am also able to get the little one to calm down much more quickly rather than escalating his naughty behavior (whatever I tried previously only made him more aggressive and he would try to bite). I can't wait to try the techniques he showed us to develop their leash-walking and car-riding skills! read more

Joe came out to our house a few times to help us with our then 4 month Golden-doodle, Blaze. Joe was amazing not just with Blaze, but our family as well. He answered all the questions and was so patient and patient understanding when it came to making sure that our boys understood the directions that he was giving to teach us how to work with Blaze. It is with sadness that we share Blaze unexpectedly passed in May at 5 months, we were lucky enough to to bring home one of Blaze's siblings, Finn, from his mom's last litter and are ready to have Joe comeback as we have learned that each dog has their own personality and way to learn. Working with Maggie has given me such confidence and a better understanding of how to train my Border Collie. I saw a recommendation for her on a Facebook group for Border Collie owners and called. Maggie took her basic program and modified it adding training areas that were specific to our needs. The difference in just a few months is incredible. Instead of neighbors asking me "Who's walking who" i am now getting compliments on her behavior. In the last week alone, four people have mentioned how well behaved she is. I can't even say enough good things about Maggie Marshall Dog Training. Maggie is incredibly knowledgeable, personable and just one of the most genuine people I've ever met. I came to her with a dog that was high strung, barked at everything and "did not like dogs". Even from the FIRST SESSION my dog was a completely different animal. Maggie takes her time, explains everything to you, and gives you all the tools you need in between trainings to make sure you and your dog have the right tools to communicate and become a successful team. This was very important for me because I am very nervous on leash with my dog, and I needed someone to coach me through properly handling her. After 5 sessions my dog now no longer pulls on her leash, she does not jump on visitors entering my home, she has calmed down immensely and also... PLAYS WITH OTHER DOGS. Maggie is magical. She makes it look easy to manage 80 lbs of reactive dog lunging at the end of the leash because in about 5 quick minutes the dog is listening to her and staring adoringly into her face. Amazing. But more impressive is that she was able to teach us how to speak to our dog in ways that make her listen. You should have to take lessons with Maggie when you get that first puppy. We made a lot of mistakes, starting with every family member treating the dog differently, and she got all of us moving in the same direction including the dog. She came highly recommended by our vet and another trainer and it was all true. She is amazing. And now 98% of the time we have a fabulous dog. That 2% keeps us humble but I bet over time that goes away too, thanks to Maggie and her easy to understand and patient lessons. read more
