Let me paint the picture…read more.. My wife and I were attending a wedding at the Port Authority. We arrived at the Marriott in the Renaissance Center with plenty of time to relax. Since she always takes four hours longer than me to get ready, I took the opportunity to watch TV and have a little rest, deciding that I'd get up at 4:30 pm with plenty of time to get myself ready for the 6 pm wedding as the venue was only about 10 minutes away. At 4:45 pm, I proceeded to put on my dress shirt and, to my shock and disappointment, realized I had packed a tuxedo shirt instead of a normal button down. The shirt I had with me required cufflinks and buttons that were sitting in my closet at home. There was no way I could drive there and back so I decided to look for a place close by that might be able to give me a hand. Knowing that my wife was extremely displeased, but handled it very well, I tried several avenues to remedy this situation, including asking other hotel guests if they had a shirt I could borrow and stopping into nice restaurants in the area to see if the waitstaff had any shirts on hand. When those options failed, I ran the thirteen minute route down Randolph to find Hot Sam's. I arrived at their door at 5:10 pm and the store was alive with people getting measured for suits, people socializing on the loungers around the store, and managers and staff mingling with customers and regulars coming in and out of the store. They saw me as I entered, out of breath and sweating profusely, and asked what my situation was. I told them that I was in jeopardy of both missing a wedding and being killed by my wife, which they immediately smiled, gave me a napkin to dry my brow, and were able to tell the size of my shirt without even getting a measuring tape. The shirt was perfectly priced considering they could have charged me 4 x what I paid to solve the problem. They wished me well and told me they would be here to serve me (and others) for whatever the occasion would be in the future. Within 13 minutes, my emergency was resolved and I was able to causally stroll back to the venue feeling ready to dance the night away. I even beat my wife to the venue. I will definitely be returning to Hot Sam's in the future (once my shin splints heal) when I need to freshen up my wardrobe or find the perfect outfit for a special occasion. Hot Sam's has a great selection, including some things you won't find anywhere else. They have a website if you're not in town, but if you're in the Motor City, go for the experience. My appointment was scheduled for 10:30 AM, but I ended up being about 15 minutes late due to a freeway closure. I called ahead to let them know, but was immediately told I should consider rescheduling since I'd "only have about 45mins" left. That caught me off guard, especially since most bridal shops I've been to allow at least 90 minutes per appointment. When I arrived, I apologized for the delay and explained the situation. I also brought up the shorter appointment time, and they explained that it's because they don't charge a booking fee. I get that--but I did have to put a card on file, and there's a $50 charge for no-shows or late cancellations, so it felt a little contradictory. Before we even started, I was told I'd only be able to try on 3-4 dresses, which was kind of frustrating. Luckily, I ended up trying on 8, (due to rushing) so i guess it worked out. Still, the whole appointment felt a bit rushed and could've been handled better from the beginning. That said, the girls helping me were kind and professional, and the dresses were absolutely stunning. They have a beautiful selection at a wide range of price points, so there's definitely good value if you're on a budget or looking to splurge. Overall a good experience, just wish it felt a bit more relaxed.

I connected with Shawn and we agreed to set up a virtual meeting. I added my daughter virtually to help me with the selection. My daughter was so impressed with the way Shawn worked with us that she said to me "She is the only vendor that listened to you, your dress is at Pink Poodle." The dresses at Pink Poodle are high-fashion, designer gowns for a fraction of the price. Shawn curated a selection of wedding dress for me to view, at various price points. She showcased dresses and reviewed the silhouette and detail of the gowns. She was attentive to my style and presented incredible dresses she had in her lounge. Once businesses could open, Shawn scheduled an appointment for me to try on the dress I fell in love with online. The salon was extremely clean and she only took one customer a day to ensure she complied with a covid safe environment. Upon entering the salon, she shared with me new arrivals. Ironically enough, the dress I fell in love with online was the dress I selected. I was more in love with it in person. She ordered my dress and it came back in record time. She had a seamstress on site that did the alterations. She assured me that she would have as many fittings as needed for me to have the perfect fit. In addition to bridal dresses, she carries an entire line of accessories from jewelry to hair pieces to second dresses. I strongly recommend Pink Poodle Dress Lounge because the professionalism, communication and overall experience was second to none. She made the dress shopping experience amazing!
