I could have CRIED when every single person in the clinic was not just kind, but listened intently. They never made me feel rushed or that they didn't have time to talk about what was going on. They never acted dismissive. But I still expected after my ultrasound to be told they found nothing and to go home. But instead they were kind throughout the process and they DID find something and told me it was a good thing I listened to my body. They asked many questions after, getting a better idea of my history and current situation. They never rushed me or talked over me. Since it had been around two years, they asked if I wanted to do an exam since I was there, to also make sure everything else was okay. I said yes, because why not? I was already there. When I tell you that it was the most relaxed and comfortable exam I've ever had....I was blown away. They then took my labs because I mentioned I've been going through perimenopause despite my previous GYN dismissing it, so that they could look at my levels to make sure and also give them a clear picture of my current health and make recommendations if needed. I have NEVER felt so comfortable, understood, acknowledged, and validated as I did in this office. I will never go anywhere else and will recommend anyone and everyone I know to this clinic. I simply cannot say enough good things about my experience. PLEASE support this practice. I cannot express to you how absolutely amazing my experience was and how VASTLY different from any other experience I have ever had with a GYN clinic. I hope and pray they stay open, because I never want to go anywhere else. I also had a conversation with Dr. Hudson the same day about what had happened and he was understanding and wanted to make sure any and all of my questions were answered, as well as making sure I was well informed about the situation. However, over the last couple of years, my annual appointments have consistently been with a physician assistant rather than with Dr. Leong. Unfortunately, my experiences with this provider have been disappointing. I have felt talked over during visits, not fully listened to, and at times treated as though my concerns were an inconvenience. I raised these concerns previously and was told I would not have to see this provider again, yet at my most recent visit I was scheduled with her again. The most concerning experience occurred when I became extremely ill. My wife called the office to request medication for nausea and was told that if we did not hear back, we should check the pharmacy. There was no follow-up call and no prescription sent. For a patient of more than two decades, that lack of communication and care felt dismissive and unacceptable. I still have respect for Dr. Leong, but the overall patient experience has declined. Long-term patients deserve to feel heard, respected, and cared for -- especially when acutely ill. I hope the practice and anyone thinking of joining takes this feedback seriously.

When making this appointment over three weeks ago I was told that they had a cancellation and if I didn't take this appointment I would have to wait until October. I arrived for my appointment at 10:15 a.m. which is fairly standard for most medical practices, and I was told that the CRNP (Dr. Allyson Gilstrap was on leave so I wasn't even going to see a doctor ) could not see me since I was not there at 10:00 a.m. To be fair, it was suggested, not mandated, to be there a half an hour early to fill out paperwork which would have taken maybe 10 minutes. But I was not made aware that if I was not there by 10:00 a.m. on the dot I would not be seen. I should have been told that. They asked me if I could come back at 3:00 p. m. That would not work for me and I said no and walked out. What is the purpose of making an appointment and arriving early just to be turned away for not being there a half an hour early!! Who does that?? I've never heard of such a thing!! And I should have been able to fill the paperwork out online like most medical practices offer now, and not this out-of-date system. I hope that the person/persons running this place rethink their policies because this clearly is not the way to treat new, potential and existing patients. Turning away a new patient for not being a half an hour early for their appointment is very suspect to say the least. I have since spoken to several people that I know in the medical profession and told them of my experience with this practice and they outright told me this is absolutely wrong.

I felt totally disrespected and discouraged in updating my primary care doctor with my health concerns (isn't that their job???). People need to be aware of the degradation and violation of privacy I felt in that visit. I don't want anyone to feel the same way I did. I'm a strong person, and this really, really upset me. Also, because she didn't listen to the resident or me, she told me my back pain was a "new" issue (I've had back issues for 20 years but it's been exacerbated because I moved) and didn't need a specialist. She was accusing me of "dog paddling" multiple times when I was just updating them on what was and wasn't helping and updating my primary care on my health. I didn't notify them beforehand because the exacerbation occurred a couple of weeks before, and I figured I would tell them at my appointment and try to treat it to get it healed with resting it and taking ibuprofen. I'm not looking for medicine. I just want to know what's wrong with it. I also started feeling sick this weekend as well and was just letting them know because their questionnaire asks about recent symptoms. It's making me cry just typing this and reliving it. She was also telling the resident to not listen to "dog paddling", and it's really discouraging to hear someone training the next generation of doctors to be anything like her because I really appreciated him. I recently delivered my first baby at UAB and was very pleased and satisfied with the services received. The doctors, nurses, technicians, lactation specialists, and everyone else that I saw during my stay were excellent. I know that UAB is not the first hospital that comes to mind when thinking about where to deliver your baby in Birmingham, but it was a no brainer for me. Being connected to Children's Hospital brought a piece of mind had my daughter needed those services. In addition, UAB is the only hospital in the state with high-risk maternal and fetal physicians available in-house 24/7 and the only Maternity Evaluation Unit. I want to give a special shout out to the lactation services, and specifically Barbara. She has been instrumental in helping me with this feeding journey. Even 8 weeks postpartum I'm able to call to ask questions or come in for weighted feedings. 10/10 would recommend UAB!
