Although waiting in line isn't the most fun, it makes ordering special :). The workers are very friendly and really do try to give you everything they can. I take off 1 star because parking can be a problem. They have a small lot, and if you park on a side street the neighbors will call the cops. This can cause someone to think twice if they want to come and wait in line. Everything about this place is worth it, and I make sure to tell everyone to come if they're in the area :) read more

What is there to say that hasn't been said by other reviewers? This place is a Summit institution. They're famous for their Magic Blends but I like to go the milkshake route because you can get any ice cream flavor (hard or soft -- for Magic Blends you can only get soft!) and any toppings too! I fantasize about the peanut butter milkshake with chocolate chips. It's phenomenal. And at only $4 for a medium, it's cheaper than a Magic Blend! They have a wide variety of toppings that you don't really see anywhere else and the line actually does move quickly. Online ordering was perfect! The site is very easy to use, my order was ready in 20 minutes but it took a little longer for me to get there. They kindly kept it in the freezer and pick up took two seconds and the walk up window. The worst experience ice cream is good customer service is terrible. I had to order online it added a tip for which I did not want to add. "Hey Mom! What's for dinner?" "Ice Cream!" Who wouldn't want to hear that answer? And ice cream for dinner is a great plan when the treat is coming from Magic Fountain in upscale Summit, New Jersey. In our case, we find the "Magic Blend" made with their soft frozen yogurt to be a meal in itself. Of course their ice cream is good - why else would customers be lined up around the block in rain, wind, or even near-freezing temps in early spring? But their low-fat frozen yogurt is beyond compare. We're partial to a twist of vanilla and chocolate mixed with Bordeaux cherries and either chocolate sprinkles or chocolate chunks. Toss a little marshmallow on top and dinner is served! What? There's protein and calcium in the frozen yogurt, there are anti-oxidants in the chocolate and the Bordeaux cherries... and tomorrow, there's always the salad bar. Prices are surprisingly reasonable. Lines can be very long on the weekends and in the evenings. Overheard conversations - (Again, what? It's crowded) - can be intriguing. Especially when the local "Masters of the Universe" are discussing their latest business ventures, stock gains, or exotic vacations to Bora Bora... just loud enough to impress, but never at a volume to be considered rude. What a great idea. Serve mediocre ice cream from a concrete structure that resembles a WWII machine gun bunker. Be surly and peek at your customers through a small window cluttered by pictures of ice cream novelties. Open only one line so the wait is agonizing. Offer your customers concrete benches, that, in another time and place, would more closely resemble devices of torture and agony. Charge more than you should. Kids will beat a path to your door. Anyone who gives this place below 4 stars is probably just bitter that they had to wait in line for 30 minutes. THE. BEST. SOFT SERVE. EVER. Hands down. I moved to Philly four years ago after growing up near Magic, and I STILL count down the days til it opens each spring. And "WWI bunker?!" That's called old-school charm. Just because everything else in Summit has been refurbished/remodeled/rebuilt/re-whatevered due to practically everyone in town having more money than they know what to do with doesn't mean that Magic's nostalgic, 50's look is an "eyesore." The place is a landmark. The Magic Blends are amazing, the neon-slushies (with a massive scoop of soft-serve on top, of course!) are delish, and the throwback popsicles/ice cream bars are all great. And my new fav? The homemade coconut ice cream topped with fresh banana and mango. Amazing. Go here if you want the real stuff. The Magic Fountain isn't a place to go for premium ice cream, it's a good old-fashion ice cream stand that serves up great soft serve ice cream in various forms from cones, to sundaes to shakes. The shakes are excellent, the coffee & black & white shakes are supreme and the coconut is pretty darn good too. Yes, the waiting time can be long, but again, it's a seasonal ice cream stand that caters to the summer crowd. I am probably going to get skewered for this, but this place was okay. We went on a relatively warm day in March and got the vanilla soft serve and the oreo ice cream sandwich. The vanilla soft serve was ok. It was super creamy, and it did not seem to melt ... and it tasted room temperature instead of that refreshing cold & creamy soft serve that I enjoy. Perhaps, it just a matter of preference, but it was def. not for me. The oreo mint ice cream sandwich, however, was the BOMB. It was friggin' good. First off, I've been to a lot of different ice cream places all around NJ but Magic Fountain in Summit has to be the the best in my opinion. I traveled from a few towns away because their ice cream is worth it! and reasonable with there prices, not like ColdStone or Haagen Dazs. Magic Fountain hard ice cream is homemade which is delicious and the amount of choices you can create is endless (whatever you can think of, they can make it). What I appreciate the most is the customer service at magic fountain they have it! They are "BY FAR" the nicest and most genuine people to serve you ice cream. The guy on the 3rd window, I've had the genuine pleasure to serve me a few times, he is one of the funniest people there and he really cares about trying to make your day. He even says "Have a Magical Night" I swear it's like Magic Fountain hires people from Disney or something. They are so welcoming, and are excited to make crazy concoctions. It's really neat to see! It's only cash and yes the line is long but I don't mind waiting because they do their best to make your order the way you want it.
