She coincidentally returned from a Euro holiday to her beloved Greece and also Barcelona and other exotic locals! And had that just returned enthusiasm and it was the perfect match to the ice cream! This is some solid Ice Cream. When Kilwins in Westfield closed, we needed find a new spot. This place nailed it. We have never actually been there, but we do delivery and we have never been disappointed. I don't think they actually make the ice cream there. I think its just Hershey's, but we don't care. Some of the yummiest ice cream concoctions around! I don't keep a lot of sweets in the house but ice cream/gelato is the exception. My husband has a rule which dictates his flavor selections: the base flavor must be chocolate, mint, coffee or peanut butter. And this place has no shortage of options. The Cappucino Crunch may be the single best flavor in the shop. I love the yogurt blends. Low fat frozen yogurt in vanilla, chocolate or coffee with so many options....my fave is a double dose of peppermint patties in the vanilla yogurt. This place has something for everyone. Whether you like sorbet, good ole fashion plain ice cream, crazy flavors chock full of stuff, yogurt etc....you will find some delicious here. Choices are endless. Flavors are fresh. Service is super friendly. Prices are just like every other specialty ice cream shop...you get what you pay for fresh ice cream! We love the new Summit location. Worth every ounce of fat and every extra minute of cardio to work off the calories. Now if they could just open one in Livingston! PS Withheld the fifth star because gelato is our favorite and they don't have it here. On summer nights, many can be found sitting at outdoor tables, facing Main Street, enjoying their cool treat. Perhaps one of the best flavors of ice cream I've ever had - Cappuccino Crunch. A fantastic concoction of coffee ice cream, dark chocolate fudge swirls, and toffee chunks. I was blown away the minute this hit the lips, and I knew it was a 5/5. The service was very good - she even made a recommendation to avoid adding a syrup topping to my ice cream because it would "take away from the flavor." An abundance of Hershey's brand ice creams from which to choose. The staff is hit and miss. Some of them are super friendly and attentive. Some are completely disinterested. Typical high school / college kids. The ice cream itself is quite good. They're doing a high volume business here, so the ice cream turns over pretty quickly and while it's not made in-house, it is usually quite fresh. One issue I have is the hours. Why close a dessert shop at 9 -9:30 PM? With so many surrounding restaurants, why not give us until 10-10:30? I'd love to dine at a local restaurant and then stop by afterwards. Unfortunately, all too often I just miss that 9 PM close time. Fri/Sat/Sun in the summertime especially. Step it up and give us that extra hour! read more

Terrible. Staff was as friendly as a concentration camp guard. Went in at 8 (they close at 9) and they acted like I kicked their puppy. Sorry you cleaned up an hour before you close. Not my fault.. Had a milk shake. Medium is the size of a small. Paid 6 dollars. Little pricy seeing that it was basically chocolate milk not a shake when it came out of the blender. Other than that. Best ice-cream parlor around, without question. 30+ flavor to choose from, sundaes, milkshakes, etc, and they also have "yo-blends," which are basically cups of froyo with added ingredients of your choice fully blended into it. There is a very good selection of ice cream. My favorites are strawberry and black cherry in a sugar cone. There is a bulletin board for local business to put up flyers and cards. Service is always friendly. In the downtown area with outdoor seating. There is also a McCools in Madison which is just as good. read more

Not Kid-Friendly. Will never go back! Don't let the fact that its an ice cream shop and has a kids table fool you. I brought my 5 year old son and 8 other kids to the McCool's in Summit on a Wednesday afternoon after school for a scoop of ice cream on his birthday. The woman working there said next time you bring a group of kids here call ahead because I have lots of other work to do. Weird, but okay. There were 3 other customers there for the 40 minutes we were there. She was visibly annoyed with us the entire time, even when the kids couldn't decide on the kind of ice cream they wanted. The kids were playing with the line stanchions and the line sign and spilled some ice cream on the floor . As I walked outside the woman working there handed me the store phone for the owner to talk to me. The owner was angry and said "This is not a place for a birthday party, its a restaurant ! I watched you on the security camera and I saw the kids playing with the signs." A birthday party? I didn't have gifts, food or sing happy birthday. The lady was so patient with my co-worker and I. We literally tried every flavor and she was making jokes and friendly conversation with us. There were so many people, but it was worth it. I opted for the play dough flavor and the heavenly hazelnut which tasted like cake batter on a brownie except all in ice cream form. It was delicious. No toppings necessary! An independently run ice cream shop is a rare find these days, especially one with Hershey's ice cream (and great service)! Yum. I've tried both the Orange Blossom (think creamsicle) and Peanut Butter Swirl/Chunk flavor, and they were both superb. My fiance always goes for the shakes, which he says are fantastic. First visit last night found really tasty ice cream and toppings. Right in the center of Summit's busy restaurant area, just down the street from the train station. Yay, finally found Hershey's ice cream again there. I've missed it for years since it is no longre found in Westfield. Walk-friendly town and great ice cream...can't go wrong. Saw some nice looking ice cream cakes, large variety of ice cream AND frozen yogurt flavors. I've been to McCools many times since they first opened their Summit location and I have to say that I was very impressed with their selection of ice cream. Their milkshakes are extremely delicious and their location right by the Summit train station is very convenient. I will say though that their milkshakes are a little pricey and because of that I wouldn't give them five stars. Very disappointed with this place. We came in with high expectations, however, these sadly were not at all met. The ice cream is not homemade, it is Hershey's ice cream and quite frankly it didn't taste like it. It tasted like store brand ice cream from a carton-basically frozen water with color. We both ordered a shake, the size small which on the sign is 12 ounces, and were served that. Our "shake" was ice cream melted into a cup. However, we were charged double what we should have been, the staff insisting they were correct. Apparently, the small 12 ounce is now a medium which was not at all indicated on the sign, as the sign specifically shows the price for each size cup. Never have I seen a staff act so disrespectfully towards a customer, and we were polite, calm, and just wanted the matter to be resolved. Will never return to this place, and will make sure to mention them on my list of "places not to go to" on my blog. Definitely a place to pass on. read more
