You gain entry 30min before show time and the artifacts of this museum are astounding! Then you're allowed in to a very small space for the magic show. Magic's Theater is a true hidden gem! We were out in Dripping Springs for the weekend, so I took a look at what we might do after a day of communing with nature. The abundance of breweries and distilleries is pretty remarkable, but didn't catch my fancy as someone who isn't a big drinker. I stumbled upon Magic's and booked two tickets for their Saturday show. My husband and I arrived a little early, as requested, so we were able to wander around their museum. Even better, John and Ruth were the most welcoming hosts: Ruth warmly checked us in and John toured us around, sharing stories from his years working behind-the-scenes in Hollywood and honing his craft as a magician. When we sat down for the show, we were mystified for a solid 90 minutes. John is a consummate professional, moving from trick to trick with ease. I've never been to a close-up magic show, so I was repeatedly delighted by his mix of mentalist, card, and coin magic. Such a fun, quirky way to spend an evening -- highly recommend! read more

We had an unexpected blast at this theatre. We simply saw the sign on the side of the road and came back for the show, and are so glad we did. Great magic with fun presentation and mind-blowing illusions throughout. I've seen some reviews talk about the gospel presentation, but I'd like to point out that the Christian-themed illusion/presentation was done 10 minutes after the announced end to the show, after the stage was closed and the lights turned on, everyone was warned and given a chance to leave, and the presentation lasted 3 minutes. I can't say enough good things about this show! It was amazing! Super high quality stage magic. So much fun! I highly recommend going here if you like magic or have kids who like magic. It's a great activity, especially now when entertainment is so hard to come by. I hit up the snack bar (trying to support local). I wish there had been more options, but it was pretty sparse. Good prices on drinks though. $2 for a San Pelligrino sparkling water. The other choices were large m&ms, almond Hershey, gummy bears, sour patch kids and Pringles for $3 each. I would have bought more if there had been more, but oh well. Also got my son a magic trick. I really hope you check it out. We will likely return with some of our other kids. Magic's Theater & Museum Exceeded My Expectations !!! What an amazing and wonderful evening with my daughter all thanks to John Magic and his Theater & Museum. We were fortunate enough to watch the close-up show which lasted more than an hour and includes almost 2 dozen effects with a great amount of variety. The close-up theater provides intimate and unobstructed views with very comfortable seats and ample lighting. There is no bad seat in the house. Mr. Magic quickly builds a rapport with the audience and keeps them entertained throughout the show. This evening we witnessed both classic and new pieces of magic which are cleverly intertwined to avoid any slow downs in the show. The show is enjoyed by both young and old and is tasteful. It's is family affair and many of John Magic's family members go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed. As for Mr. Magic himself, he is very knowledgeable and funny. he is a treasure trove of magical encyclopedic information. He not only could author a book on the subject, but he is adept enough to perform alongside the likes of any master prestidigitator. After a few minutes it becomes clear he has spent a lifetime cultivating every move and every line. Those making the trip to Magic's Theater & Museum quickly become the benefactor of a man who for lack of a better description simply loves to entertain people and put smiles on their faces. Not one joke was at the expense of a volunteer. He handled volunteers with dignity and class. His show started on time and packed a punch. His close-up theater has intimate seating and transports you back to a simpler time when magicians held court and dazzled spectators with feats of wonderment. He has performed at the illustrious Magic Castle in Hollywood and hundreds of prestigious venues honing and perfecting his skills. I am not aware of any place in Texas which provides this much value for your bucks without having to travel to California or New York. It's so phenomenal even teenagers will forget about their phones and allow themselves to be enmeshed in the show. I guarantee when it's over you will want to stay for more. The effects have a high wow factor and force you to quit guessing how the effects are done and simply sit back and enjoy the action. For those few who have some familiarity with magic performances and history, you will be pleased to see a master handle everything from cards and coins to ropes, dices and cups. This is no tired show. The audience is treated to both new effects and customized personal pieces of magic only seen at the theater. For example, Mr. Magic performed one piece of magic for the audience which left us thankful for his safety. After all, no one wants to see an entertainer actually get hurt trying to entertain his audience. If you do go plan on arriving at least 30 minutes early to peruse the vast amount of movie and stage show memorabilia adorning the halls and walls. Items and autographs spanning almost 40 years are within arms distance and provide numerous photo opportunities. I for one am amazed there is no additional cost to tour the museum. In today's day and age where someone is always trying to part you from your money, John Magic and his wonderful wife do no such thing. They offer you a chance to just sit back and take it all in. A concession stand offering refreshments is reasonably priced and available. A highlight of the theater is an assortment of magical effects reasonably priced which will foster any budding magician's interest in developing their skills. Many quality items were for sale at a good price. After purchasing a few items for my daughter, Mr. Magic graciously assisted my daughter in handling her new piece of magic. Our family will return to the theater & museum again to witness what I am sure is an amazing illusion and stage show. I did get to poke my head into the larger stage area and was excited to see professional quality lighting and sound equipment. I was told by other audience members the stage show is a sight to behold. I am so happy I was able to take my daughter to one of John Magic's Shows, because she could see it done the "Right Way." I am sure she will remember John Magic's Show her entire life. It was a special treat. Not a lot of evenings leave such an indelible mark on a person, but I am sure my daughter and I will cherish the evening we spent at Magic Theater & Museum for decades to come. The magic was great for kids and John and family were entertaining. Unfortunately we had no idea that they would push their Christian religious beliefs as a part of the show. They do not state this anywhere on their website. I am shocked and appalled at what was said in front of my child -- including how only certain people are going to heaven and how a father let his son die a horrific death. Never returning. I've asked for our money back ($162 for five people). Update July 7: I've been refunded and told them that they need to update their website/advertisements to reflect that their beliefs will be shared as a part of their performance. read more

We had a lot of fun at the stage magic show! There was like the levitating lady, lady in the zig zag box, a Houdini style escape, some fantastic card sleight-of-hand, and an incredible big reveal for the finale. The kiddo loved it all. I definitely didn't sign up for Christian proselytizing as part of this though, and really didn't appreciate that with my six year old there. Like there's a whole section of "gospel magic" which is really one small trick wrapped up in a bunch of Christian messaging, and then he's pushing some New Testament tract towards all the kids at the end. Not cool, and I wouldn't recommend it to others that aren't specifically into that sort of thing. read more

I attended the stage show this past weekend and loved every minute of it. It's crazy how even as an adult, "magic" still blows your mind! The magic is really impressive, with lots of excellent classic tricks, some surprise illusions, and very cool memorabilia in the lobby. Tucked away outside of Dripping Springs, down a quiet country road, is Magic's Theater and Museum. You would not expect such a humble location to produce a great show and experience, but you'd be wrong. Magic's is impressive. The venue itself is well done, incorporating a museum and a completely tricked out (pun, sorry) theater setup. My wife and I were there for a Saturday night show, and we enjoyed it immensely. It's fun looking at all the things John has accumulated over the years, some of them quite impressive. On top of that he is a very talented magician who knows what to do to put on a show you'll enjoy and be amazed by. Great for families, but I think it's great for anyone who likes magic. I came in with just enough time to have a few minutes to browse the museum before the show started, and the owner was there to answer any questions and give me information about past magicians. Best magic show I've ever seen! The Friday close-up show was quite amazing, and John Magic was knowledgeable and precise in his practice. The museum contained a wonderful collection of historical artifacts. The magic theatre has a BYOB policy with a corkage fee, which made it convenient to enjoy some wine while watching a spectacular show!
