Some girlfriends took me to Magie Nail for a group mani sesh during my last island visit and I did NOT regret it. They work quickly & efficiently and do a very good job for the super-reasonable price of $18! The technicians were all friendlly and fun and they were able to squeeze in our group of four around the four ladies getting pedis when we arrived. I'm also happy to report that my tech actually listened to my request for 'natural' shaped nails, rather than going square, which so often happens even when they ask you what you prefer. It seems that it's walk-in only for a basic mani or pedi, but they do book appointments for gels and acrylics. If I lived in Victoria you would likely find me here EVERY week! read more

My friend recommended Magie Nails. It's a small shop on Yates neat the Market and London Drugs. Easy parking. My nail tech is Lan and she is so awesome! Super sweet, very skilled ( she does nice, thin, natural looking acrylic/gel nails) and very efficient. You never feel rushed but you'll be done in an hour. The lady left the acetone on my nails so long that it started to bleach my skin. When I asked her to take it and explained why she started arguing with me and blaming me for arriving late. Her attitude was rude and angry and I just asked her to stop even though my nails we not even close to finished. Never ever coming back. Totally unacceptable. read more

It was my first time coming here after i found this place on yelp, and was seriously unimpressed. I went in for a manicure and pedicure and it was a man doing my nails who was clearly not well enough to be at work, he was coughing all over. When he painted my nails i didnt like the colour so i requested for another and he seemed really annoyed with me as if it was the worst thing that could happen and then while putting the little slippers on my feet he had smudged it and tried fixing it with his finger but that didnt help. 2 hours later which is more than the amount of time he said i should wait till i wear shoes or anything, i slip into my flats and i feel all the nail polish slide and stick to the inside of my shoe! DON'T GO HERE! I got a mani with shellac, it was very poor quality and service. Waste of $47. They struggled with the removal of my existing shellac, didn't leave it to soak for long enough, so they were scraping away at my nails and put me in a lot of discomfort. Filed my nails to various lengths, sawing away back and forth which peeled at the layers. Colour was applied poorly, I had to request a 3rd layer just to get even coverage. At the end nails left uneven and rough edges from bad filing and of course it chipped the next day. What was worse, is that when I came back to fix the chip, the staff was argumentative, blamed me for the poor quality, told me to FILE THEM MYSELF when I pointed out the uneven file job, cut the chipped nail too short, and left it with layers of nails sticking out from under the colour. Do yourself a favor, go elsewhere. read more

AVOID. Twice now I have made appointments that were completely ignored. The first appointment, I ended up leaving because I waited 30 mins past my scheduled time and was asked if I could wait a little longer, and I had to get to another commitment. The second time, I arrived early and confirmed that my appointment was for 4:45. They asked if I could wait until 5 and I said no, so they told another customer she would have to cancel one of her treatments (rude - maybe don't overbook?) and they promised they would see me at my appointment time. I waited until 5:05 despite all this-- in that time I received no acknowledgment, no apologies, no indication that I would get an appointment at all. Nail appointments aren't always easy to come by, and I needed to get something done before an event. Very disappointed. read more

I called to make an appointment and confirm prices before I arrived. During my appointment (mani+pedi), they confused me by adding and changing options and prices. When it was time to pay, they charged me almost double what they had quoted earlier. The quality of work was also poor for the price I paid. Came here for my first ever mani-pedi. Everything was great, especially the massage, but when I was drying, the assistant "checked" to see how dry my fingers were by touching (and smudging) them. Pretty sure that isn't standard practice. Now a few of my nails are smudged because of that. Other than that, it was great. $50. read more

this place was AWFUL! questionable hygiene, and the manicure I received was not even a full manicure. The person obviously didn't really know what he was doing, and even though I asked for a simple manicure (no polish to remove or put on), he didn't offer to buff my nails. And beyond that, he didn't clean under my nails, or trim any of the dead skin away. I paid $20 and the only thing he did was cut back my cuticles. I will never go back here. read more

Very disappointed with my pedicure today! Even after speaking to the technicians about how my heels still looked like crap they didn't care. Just justified it by saying they ran out of their regular equipment and that's why it looked like they didn't even buff my heels. Sorry, that's not good enough. A discount or certificate would have been an acceptable means to make sure my friend and I left happy but instead I will write a review on Yelp. Do not waste your precious money here. My sister and I got a mani-pedi last week before a wedding. I had a french manicure and a pedicure. I understand that a french manicure usually doesn't last as long as a regular manicure and I was prepared for that. However, for the manicure to start peeling within 24 hours is ridiculous. My manicure was completely trashed in 3 days and looked so bad that I had to remove the remaining polish. They did not deal with my cuticles at all, and in fact they painted right over my sister's cuticles. I have callouses on my toes that were not touched either. The woman that did my nails seemed nice enough, however the man that did my sister's mani-pedi was plugged in to his ipod the entire time he worked which I thought was super unprofessional and rude. read more

My sister and I went here the day before a wedding for Mani/Pedis. We felt rushed and both of us had chipped fingernails the next day. The technician cut one of my cuticles and half of my fingers actually have polish on the cuticle. The massage chairs are lovely and I have to say that the leg and hand massage was fantastic. If you're looking for glamorous pampering, dim lighting, down comforters and new age music, this is not the place however, if what you need is routine maintenance, then this is a great choice :) read more

wouldnt go back to get my nails done there. she did a "okay" job but i went there because ppl where telling me they were good and very reasonable priced. yaa right, it cost me 60$ and they signs says 35 for a full set... what ticked me off was, she like im going to put a design on your nails, and never told me that i had to pay for it... if she told me that i had to pay for it i wouldnt done it. anyhoo. clean place but no commication.. will never go back.. i can pay the same amount and get better serivice and better looking nails. oh and btw, my nails only lasted 3days.. before they started to lift... and i dont use my hands alot. or have them in water... I've been here a few times. The first few times were ok. However, this last time has lead me to the conclusion I will not be going back. I had a standard gel polish applied. I asked for a solid colour with a sparkle coat on top. Nothing crazy. The girl doing my nails clearly doesn't like working with sparkle coats because she tried to convince me it would look really bad on every nail and that I should only do it as an accent on one nail on each hand. That's not what I wanted. So she went ahead and did each nail. two or three of the nails didn't get much sparkle so I asked if she could just touch up those nails with a bit more sparkle before applying the top coat and she complained the entire time. Saying that I had too many layers and it would be too hard to get off. I've had gel polish applied lots of times and often with translucent colours they apply way more layers than I had put on this day. Also, I know a thing or two about gel polish and I know that the layers should be kept really thin and layered on until the correct coverage is achieved. Well, it came to my top coat layer and she globbed it on my nails really thick. I knew this was a problem and that the polish wouldn't cure correctly if applied too thick. So anyways we finished up and that was that. The next day the top coat started to peel. It continued to get worse until a few days later (yesterday) I went in to complain about it. They offered to "fix" it (more on that in a moment) which was nice but the same girl start telling me it was my fault because I wanted another layer of sparkle. She told me I had too many layers on and that's why (only) the top coat was peeling which makes no sense at all. And then she also told me it was my fault because my nails are short. I've had gel polish on my short nails before and that's never been a problem. And if it was a problem then she should have told me BEFORE I had my nails painted. So they go ahead and "fix" my top coat by filing down some of the peeling parts (taking of some of the colour with it might I add) and adding another layer top coat... I thought that according to them the problem was that I had too many layers?? Anyways, I left with my top coat looking ok-ish but some of the colour filed off around the edges and here I am today with the top coat starting to lift and peel again. I am over all really unsatisfied with this customer service. I can not think of anything more unprofessional than blaming the customer for the mistake that the "professional" made. Needless to say I will never go back there. I have other places I can go to get a cheap gel polish applied that I won't have problems with and will get much friendlier service. read more

I didn't go here with very high expectations ... for $35 I was hoping for a sanitary environment and to walk out with some pretty toes. Man was I ever put off. Despite my smile on walking in I was greeted by 3 grumpy staff, a blaring TV and promptly directed to place my purse and jacket on the floor next to one of the massage chairs. No english was spoken the entire time I was there and the staff yammered on to each other the whole time. Fair enough... but some interaction would have been nice. I'm no expert but nothing was sanitary. I saw the technician take what should have been a single use tool into the bathroom, rinse it off and put it back in the drawer. The nail polish selection was almost all half empty bottles, and the shelf of new polish bottles was covered in dust. I could've gotten past most of this (minus questionable sanitation), but the kicker was one of the technicians coming and sitting in the massage chair next to me and smacking her lips scarfing down an apple right in my ear (during the massage portion of my pedicure) while simultaneously talking passionately to my technician about ... I have no idea. I'm much too passive of a person and should've politely piped up at the time... but hopefully this review will at least keep others from a similar experience. read more

I was at this salon once before and wasn't very happy with it but since I couldn't get into my regular girl, at another shop, I thought I'd give it another try. First time I was rushed, and overcharged. I also didn't appreciate the nail techs speaking to each other, in front of clients, in their own language. But as I said I needed to have my nail repaired so I grudgingly went in again. Well after waiting for at least 1/2 hour I was blown away what transpired. A customer ahead of me had asked for a 'fill' yet the nail tech went ahead and filed several of the clients nails instead (replacing a set of nails is much more expensive than a fill). When the gal pointed out she was doing it wrong (politely) the nail tech starting yelling at her and I mean yelling, she went on a total tirade. The poor embarassed customer asked her several times to stop screaming at her, yet this didn't halt it at all. There was a lull and then it started up again. I stuck around to see what would happen, the gal finally had had enough and walked out. And so did I. I'll never go to this establishment again! Where is the 'customer is always right' or 'customer comes first' attitude? Certainly not at this place. What a horrid experience! read more
