Nicks Floor Covering - Stairway carpeting

    Nicks Floor Covering

I am a previous satisfied customer of Nicks Floor Covering aka Rose City Hardwood Floors. Years…read moreago, they did 2 excellent W2W carpet installations, and a whole house hardwood floor refinishing. Naturally, upon needing a hardwood floor refresh for a single room, we called Nicks. When we spoke to them, they said they currently had a minimum job of 400 sq ft/$1500. Realizing the one space was under 400 sq ft, I measured the space and the adjacent room. Happily, the total floor area was easily over 400 sq ft. We had them come out to measure for an estimate. When the estimate arrived, it reflected a sq ft number greater than my measurement for the entire space, and there are kitchen cabinets to be subtracted from the area to be refinished. The estimate was for the area "measured" by Nicks Flooring x $3.50/sq ft. The difference in the estimate based on his total area v. our measurements would have been about $200. We are not pleased with the apparent mismatch in the measurements, we called and asked about the discrepancy in the measurements. The person with whom we spoke, said she would find out what his measurements were are would share them with us and revise the estimate. When we finally received the revised estimate, it arrived with no measurements nor total square footage. The new "estimate" was simply for a minimum charge of $1,500. Why this encounter is resulting in a bad review: We are ok with the minimum charge, but there was an additional item we wanted that was added to the $1500 instead of being considered as a part of meeting the minimum. We are good with the minimum, but now feel like we're being taken advantage of. The results of the review of the actual measurements were not revealed. We can only assume that there was something to hide. If the minimum is being communicated as 400 sq ft or $1,500, someone needs to improve their math skills. The product of $3.50 x 400 is $1,400. This merchant just lost a piece of business and earned bad word of mouth. Simple honesty and transparency from the beginning could prevented this.

Writing this review for my mom, who insisted she share her wonderful experience…read more The work was done in Livingston, NJ~! I have been a home owner over sixty years and hired many contractors. As you know this can be a daunting task. But I found Monk's~! Rich Ressa, Monk's estimator arrived to assess the job and prepare the contract. He was pleasant and accommodating, answering all my questions and putting me at ease. He explained the process so I would know what to expect. On the start date he introduced me to Cristian and his crew. Their work ethic was so professional, no muss - no fuss~! When the job was completed (on-time) Rich returned to make sure I was pleased with the results. If you need a contractor- look no further than Monks!

Joe Corticada - our day to day lead - kept us up to date on progress and found creative ways to complete the project ahead of schedule (under 3 months). Amanda Cook helped us bring our design to life ensuring it balanced both aesthetics and function. Mike Drohan helped us spend our budget where it mattered most (custom door - still in love with it!), while balancing high quality lower cost windows. As someone who has gone through other remodels and acted as a pseudo GM, I can tell you I will never go back. This team delivered, did so as a team, and gave us a very high quality product that will produce memories for ages. Our little guy is already obsessed.
