And by no means were they the cheapest.The weekly lawn cutting started well but over time I noticed my lawn having rows of dying grass. The machine they used must have been too heavy b/c places where they turned around in the yard tore up my grass. Also, it was hard to get a person to call back or reply to emails. They're not terrible, just didn't meet my standards.

In the summer - the boundaries that were once handled with mowing and landscaping are now neglected. The owner and contractors have gone down hill despite being great before (maybe because we had a fellow owner employed there). I do not recommend to contract with them on a large scale. It has become a shell of a company. Look at other alternatives that respond and have an owner that acknowledges wrongs. Don't go based on references...just look at the surrounding neighborhoods that do not use them - clean and safe!

Our search for a landscaper began as a search for someone to repair a leaking foundation. After three foundation companies said our water intrusion issues were grading related we started our search for a landscaper in Severna Park. I called 6 companies, 3 showed up for the scheduled appointments to price the work and out of those 1 provided us with a proposal. We'd asked for an itemized proposal with a few 'wish list' items and got back a lump sum estimate for the grading portion of the project alone. I called one more company at the recommendation of a neighbor-- Bear Landscaping. It took about a week to get on Russell's busy spring calendar, but he showed up on time, listened to ALL of our concerns (including my constant wants versus needs budgeting assessment) and gave us his recommendations. In addition to the grading he addressed how to make our project last -- namely our super shaded yard with lots of tall (and many dead) trees wouldn't allow for grass to maintain the grading project meaning we'd be in a cycle of re-doing the work. Russell suggested removing the trees (I could only hear cash register sounds in my head as he continued), laying sod and finishing with river rock on the side of our house. Within days I had a quote in my email that had to be wrong: it was nearly half of the quote that I'd expected to receive and considerably more competitive than the one from a big name company (who only priced the grading work which I'd have had to pay for multiple times over because the solution wasn't a long term one). I was floored. We booked all of the services immediately and Russell's team came out for the tree removal about two weeks later and just came back after another week to finish the grading, sod and river rock treatment. Russell's team even hit a snag with their drainage approach when our deck turned out to have another deck built underneath it, but they quickly pivoted to a new solution without hesitation. Also worth noting: both landscaping crews that came to our house were friendly and professional to us and our neighbors. My husband and I could not be happier-- the transformation of our property is unbelievable. We have had neighbors seek us out to compliment the work. We are so grateful for Russell's easygoing, no pressure and honest approach, and that he took the time to truly listen to our concerns and fully explain solutions. We will absolutely be reaching back out to Bear Landscaping and singing their praises to all who will listen.

The reason for less than 5 stars, is, in addition to getting rid of weeds, they also removed a number of mature plants, which really pissed off my wife. Yucca plants, and Crepe Myrtle that she had purchased at the National Arboretum. They were told if there was any question about whether something was a weed or should be removed, they should contact us first, but they didn't. The experience left me feeling like I had gone to a barber and asked for a little off the sides and top and walked out with a crew cut. It looks nice, but was not what was asked for.

They removed more than half of my Blooming perennials they took a Blooming red hot poker removed 3/4 's of it then cut the leaves to the ground leaving about a dozen 1inch stubs. They removed 10+ year old yucca plants that were currently in bloom they removed about 10 varieties of daylilies not thinned, them completely threw them away. I had an additional 4x8 garden box full of daylilies they removed all but a 1 Sq ft plant in one corner. I had 2 varieties of iris that were just thrown out. I had a miniature crepe myrtle that was ripped out. I had a small crepe myrtle next to a larger older one that was ripped out. I had a variegated yucca that was removed.As well as other plants. It would take me at least $500 to replace what they removed with just 1 of each variety they threw out let alone have something of the size they removed.i don't think they know plants Unless they think if it doesn't come from home depot it needs to be destroyed. I WOULDN'T HIRE THEM TO DO ANYTHING. They even mangled some of the few plants they left when they spread the mulch. If you want your landscaping hacked up go with these people otherwise run the other way
