Maha Rose offers a variety of healing retreats in Mazunte, Mexico, one of which I was fortunately able to attend. The Spiritual Business retreat led by Lisa Levine was both healing and practical. She led us through imaginative and creative practices that helped us tap into our dreams and our potential, as well as the places emotionally and spiritually that there was room for growth and healing. It was a lot of fun, and I feel so grateful for the special connections that we all made. The group was small and intimate, and the location (El Triángulo) was incredibly beautiful and comfortable. In search of a spiritual event to celebrate my birthday, I discovered Maha Rose's "New Moon Meditation" for December 6th. Very excited to participate and experience a spiritual cleansing, I rescheduled all other birthday plans to participate and friends and family were excited as I had been experiencing a rough stage in my life and was seeking a "cleansing" as a celebration. On the day of my birthday, Maha Rose sent an email wishing me a Happy Birthday and cancelling the event- as they expressed that not enough people signed up for the event. My individual experience, payment, scheduling of plans and celebration of my birthday meant absolutely nothing to this center, claiming to offer spiritual advisement. I would not recommend that anyone schedule any events with Maha Rose as the ability to earn money is more important to them than those seeking meditation and spiritual relief. On this birthday, the message that was sent by Maha Rose communicating that I was not important, and neither was my eagerness to attend the event that they organized. read more

Maha Rose is an oasis of soft colors and inviting textures. I booked an 85 minute Craniosacral therapy session with Maureen online a week prior and very much looked forward to the work. First off, I walked in and immediately felt calm. It's a spacious and welcoming space with the shop in the front and the healing rooms toward the back. I was greeted and shown to the waiting area near the kitchen. I sat and closed my eyes for a minute and then heard my name spoken softly as Maureen called for me. The therapy session started with a brief consultation and check-in, and then I was in Maureen's gentle, caring hands. She suggested that I set an intention and then allow myself to simply receive. As the session came to an end, Maureen checked back in with me in a gentle and tender manner. Afterward, as I put my feet back on the ground, I felt amazingly different. My energy had been soothed and settled down like a snow globe in rest. I didn't even realize that before, my snow globe had been on a perpetual spin cycle of anxiety and tension. If I had not gone in to see Maureen, I'm not sure I would've realized this. I'm still unfolding and processing my amazing experience at Maha Rose with Maureen. I highly recommend this particular healing modality, especially if you live in NYC and consume caffeine on a regular basis. My experience here makes me believe that the other healers at Maha Rose are of a similar ilk and I would gladly book another healing session with any of them. read more

3 stars for their empathy and kindness. Went to a Fall Equinox Breathwork class and can honestly say this is not for everyone. Some students had been to a similar class in the past, a couple had never visited before and the instructor (Erin Telford, who no longer operates out of this studio) was truly welcoming and patient. The class was a full one and the space only a tad too small. A great concept the class borrowed from: group therapy, a larger element of this class should focus on sharing. The breathwork itself includes quick bursts of "in, in out" breaths through the mouth while laying on our backs. About 30% of the class claimed the breathwork brought out their own vociferous emotional responses and the challenge then became to focus on your own work while others worked on theirs, though some might call this a desirable feature of the class. Note: this is NOT a guided meditation. I would like to express kudos for any class which aims to stress empathy and positivity in our understanding of the self. However, as a frequent fitness class enthusiast, I believe there are intermediate yoga classes in the area that have been better for me to learn how to breathe deeply for better health, with the added bonus of physical strength building. Even soul cycle has been immediately better for me for emotional release as well as great exercise. Everyone is different and while some may benefit from a loose breathwork class like the ones at Maha Rose, others like myself, require more physical exertion, exercise and classical meditation practices out of this kind of time- investment. read more

Welcoming space with many offerings for NYers looking to ground and center. Their workshop list is extensive and worth checking out. The ones I've tried so far: Community Reiki - I tried reiki for the first time here. It's by donation and a great way to try reiki if you never have or are hesitant about the cost of a full session. I keep a journal and am so glad I recorded my first experience of reiki here - I returned to community reiki again several times and have ended up taking Reiki Level 1. So grateful for this experience and highly recommend. Breathwork Circle - This was a stretch for me to try as I tend to feel really frustrated at the idea of manipulating my breath. However I'm so glad I tried it. I went to a circle with the theme of self love led by Erin. She was really great at connecting with the whole room full of people. First we went around the circle and shared a short intro, then everyone laid down on blankets and Erin guided us with her voice and music through the breathing. I found the experience cathartic. Sort of like an intense workout class for the emotional parts of yourself. Crystal Shop - they carry high quality crystals on the larger side, more like stones to work with in healing or use on an alter than to carry in your pocket, though they have some pocket-size stones too, just less selection. I'm still thinking about the beautiful, deep red and orange egg-sized carnelian I saw there last week. read more

I can be pretty solidly skeptical, but the community reiki I went to was a life saver. After months of serious pain and confused traditional doctors, the practioner here was truly healing. I will definitely go back, especially since they offer the 'community' version. Alternative methods of healing should be available to all, despite their paycheck, so really, really thank you Maha Rose. read more

My review is only for Dharma Punx since I have not used any other services at the center. The space is magical. It is very simple but super cozy. Plants and lights are everywhere. The energy is beautiful. I go there on Mondays to participate in group meditation called Dharma Punx led by Josh Korda. It is always full because it is sooooo good! Josh is absolutely phenomenal teacher. He leads 20-30 min meditation and gives the most profound talks touching topics that are always relevant and deep but simple and fun! The meditation is donation based, $10 is suggested but you can leave more or less. read more

Maha rose is my favorite new find in NYC. I heard about the center when I bought a living social voucher for an intro to chakras. That class was really interesting and a great start for me into this topic. I felt the center has great energy and I felt comfortable and at peace in the big area for group classes. I then went to a gong sound bath healing session where the healer uses different instruments to create vibrations that reduce stress and stimulate your glandular system for relaxation and healing. I had a great first experience and appreciated the very open and mentoring style of the healer to really allow us to ask questions and understand how to make the most of the session. The last class I attended was the monthly astrology class. I was interested in astrology before, but the class taught me how to read my birth chart and what to look into to learn more. It was clear, fun, and opened a whole bag of curiosities for me in this area. Leslie was very open, inviting, and spent a lot of personal time with students to allow everyone to leave with personal insights. She also talks about the month ahead for everyone to be able to use the positions of the planets to make the most of their energy and understand how and why they might feel certain things on certain days. The center is very clean and the staff is friendly and not intimidating. It's a great place for both beginners and those knowledgeable of these fields. My lovely sister-in-law took me to a Breathwork Workshop here. I had absolutely no idea of what breathwork was going in. I thought perhaps it would be some kind of meditation. It was so much more!! The entire experience was absolutely life changing and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to do some self love kind of work. I was able to release and work through a negative belief I had that had been limiting my growth forever and didn't even realize I had. Last night I had an excellent Skype session with Deborah Hanekamp. I had seen her Baby Naming Ceremony advertised on the Carriage House Birth Instagram, but because I live in Miami I could not attend. Her demeanor was was wonderful. She was professional, concise and focused. If you are looking to connect with your unborn baby this is a wonderful way to do so. She asks great questions and seems to intuit which direction to take the session in a nice, non-invasive way. I'm looking forward to doing a session with her in person. read more

Unfortunately while in the past I've only had the best experiences here from reiki treatments and sound baths, my recent experience here after the renovation was terrible. I hadn't been back in nearly a year and went a few months ago for a sound bath. I had no idea that they enlarged the space and when we walked into the sound bath room, saw the number of mats rolled out inches next to each other, including one literally right next to the door, I said to my partner, "this is not good." There were about 34 people including one poor lady who was right on the door so you had to walk over her to get out. Completely over-packed. One person stepped on my pillow while walking out to go to the bathroom, another behind me kept knocking into it with their feet as we were all so (too) close. Not to mention the few that were loudly snoring, including the guy next to me who kept bumping into me since he was trying to get comfortable for his nap, and was snoring, like a serious sleep apnea sound, into my ear the entire time. Just a terribly thought out design. Also, it's encouraged to use the bathroom beforehand and not during the sound bath if you can help it, but people were getting up consistently to go out. There are some basic communal rules and etiquette to these experiences that have to be clearly explained and followed but weren't. So when people don't understand the concept of a sound bath, have never been to one, and that it's a very intimate and potentially spiritual experience, then you get people unaware of how their behavior can affect others during this time. Go to the bathroom before you settle in. Don't eat a meal beforehand. If you're tired, this is not a place/time for you to sleep so don't go. Respect the experience and that others are there that are serious about it. While I understand that this is a business, they renovated and expanded so they've got to make money, but I was very disappointed that Maha Rose jammed 30+ people into this space for such an intimate experience. Yes, they've got to profit, but does it mean sacrificing part of the experience? I won't be back for a sound bath if this is how they'll be run but I understand the dilemma here. If that was my first time there, they'd get one star, before going to this sound bath, five, but after this a three since they still have so much to offer and places like this need to be supported...but please show respect for those of us who see these times as a kind of sanctuary and not make these spaces uninhabitable. read more

I am an aspiring healer and educator who recently moved to Greenpoint. I stumbled upon Maha Rose after exploring the neighborhood and made a promise to explore it when things would settle and I was ready. I could tell by its exterior, with carefully placed flowers and crystals, that great, deliberate care was placed to purify what appears to be a former garage / warehouse -- its purity shone through its exterior. I came for two separate services at momentous times: a past life regression with kundalini yoga and a community reiki session. The environment: The interior is spacious, clean, bright/warm light like an embrace. Shoes and coats are collected and hung, the space is cleansed and well kept with carpets, gentle and modest decor -- much like stepping into a hidden oasis. The room in which both sessions took place is spacious for about 10-12 individuals, warm, and with plants, delicate lights, incense, and a shrine encompassing various conduits of compassion. Inviting and peaceful. The staff: The staff are gentle, kind, and greet you with a light and friendly demeanor in a storybook fashion. You just know, non-intimidatingly, they are very gifted and ready to assist with what you have come to work on. The services: First, very affordable for the high quality. This blew me away. - Past Life Regression with Kundalini Yoga: I have had plenty of deja vu moments with individuals I knew I met or learned from in a former life. I've been eager to try a hyponosis-induced regression experience. Our practitioners kept us in an embraceful state, reminding us of the power of our authority to control our mind/body connection and explore these experiences within ourselves as we wish. I have never been hypnotised, and I was a little nervous. I found the experience to be comforting, relaxing, nurturing, and very much focused on self-actualization. There was space for self and, other, if so inclined to share experiences. I was able to experience two regressions, but oddly, I healed from a physical ailment I wasn't expecting to heal from. Prior to attending this workshop, I had been suffering from a psychosomatic pain in my left shoulder that occurred shortly after my move. I tried a lot of things to eliminate this pain, but with little results. After this workshop, this pain completely disappeared and never returned. Anyway, I highly recommend this for those who are curious. - Community Reiki I have never received a reiki treatment, and, since I had such an enjoyable experience, I came again for one. To receive, you wait laying down and relaxing to the lovely meditative music they have. The proceeds (suggested $15, again, a humble amount!) go to benefit Occupy Sandy. My practitioner, Jenn, was gentle, calming, and extremely gifted. I experienced a warmth, buzz, and sensations of smell, electricity and the "false hands" (it is reported that those receiving reiki can feel additional hands on their body even if their practitioner has left the room or stopped performing .. there are many beautiful explanations for this). I felt wonderful afterwards. Again, I had a very powerful healing experience. I recall during my session, Jenn asked me to breathe very deeply in my abdominal area. Nearly 24 hours later, I was rushed for an emergency removal of a 3-inch cyst on my ovary that burst. I had no idea I was harboring this, but I cannot begin to describe how grateful I am for this detection. Again, beautifully powerful and healing. Thank you so much, Maha Rose. Yesterday was their re-opening & 11-11 . So I took a long Uber drive to their event. And another girl did the same thing. We arrived there 1 hour before the event ends. They did not let us in cause the event is already started. We offered to if we can get inside & listen their event. The girl at the door said No. She said they are closed. She have to do cleaning. It was middle of no where and cold and she did not even open the door. Did not let us in even for a minute. We were so frustrated. And we weren't welcomed. This place calls itself " healing " place. Returning people who are made effort to come to your door isn't humane. Not letting people in for a minute to rest who came in long distance isn't humane. Lying people that you are closed when there is an hour to go isn't ethical. Hiring people who is not even kind and out of empathy is not good sign for this "healing business". read more

I've been wanting to write a review for this place since I first stepped foot in the door -- I'm over the moon to have found such a space in NYC. I came for 2 different sound baths and both have been AMAZING. I'm not going to lie, I was a bit skeptical coming into this place, as I'm still not completely 100% sold on esoteric practices, but this place is the real deal. It's not flooded with phonies trying to cash in on the mindful/wellness movement, the instructors truly believe in the services they're provided and there's a real, authentic community feel to the space. I would say that I have experienced The BEST HEALING EVER!!!!!! My healer, Deborah Hanekamp, is other worldly! She is truly an angelic being/extra-terrestrial who has SKILLS! You need to RUN to book your appt with her. She had many tools in her bag of tricks and her voice is like listening to God/Goddess/the Great Spirit sing. I was blown away by her accuracy and her compassion. And it was REAL!!!!!! I will go and see her at least once a month. And the center where she works; Maharose is da'BOMB.com! I've been going to Maha Rose for years! Everyone who works there is the real deal. Genuine, loving, supportive. For people starting to explore alternative healing, I highly recommend their wide variety of workshops and open houses that let you explore new modalities and different practices. It's also by far the best crystal shop in town! The whole space is filled with love and supportive vibes, and you feel this with what they offer in terms of services and goods. I also recently tried their new infrared sauna, and it is deeply relaxing. Like a heat-induced meditation. Great for a day off work or in the evening when you have plenty of time to soak in some stillness. This place offers a home away from home. A sanctuary in the middle of New York City. read more

I was truly looking forward to attending the Full Moon workshop at Maha Rose this evening but sadly came down with a very bad cold this morning and don't feel well enough to attend (nor do I want to get any one else sick). I called to ask if there was any way I could have the money I spent credited towards another workshop as there are so many I would love to try. Given the rave reviews my close friends have given me about this center I assumed this would not be a problem. I was wrong:( I totally understand small businesses can't offer cash or credit back but feel it would have been a nice gesture to have offered a credit towards another class. Living in greenpoint, Maha Rose has been a massively profound asset to my growth, health & happiness. I'm openminded, but i'm a rationalist, so I've attend things here as a bit more of a skeptic, but have always seen unexpected benefits unfold. Finding the Dharma punx meditation group that meets here Monday, i began attending weekly. I've found a community that I didn't think was possible for me & learned so much from Josh. Laughter yoga seemed silly, and it is! But, even just going twice has had a lasting impact, deepening my understanding of laughter as medicine, joy, awareness of reciprocal communication between the body & emotions. Breathwork with Luke was incredible- I had no idea we could reach profound altered states of insight so simply! Attending community reiki was amazing and lead me to learn reiki from Lisa, making me a more intuitive, warm person, more comfortably aware of touch / energy between myself and others. Lisa, the mother of Maha Rose, is an incredible woman, powerful healer but personable, very human, kind, accepting, unconditionally loving to everyone, a teacher by example in learning to loving oneself unconditionally. I have often been self-conscious, aware of judgement or my outsiderness in spiritual communities, and this loving acceptance of LIsa's is really the most significant thing that gathers and permeates all the events that come together in this space. Although I am a designer, not with any plans to become a healer or devotee, my experiences at Maha Rose have alway lead to huge rippling effects in my life, helping me to continually become more peaceful, communicative, and insightful in all ways. So grateful to have this resource in my life, so moved by all that it does for so many people, so hopeful for all those who find themselves there! read more

While I appreciate all of the practices that Maha Rose offers, they have a serious booking issue. I purchased two sound meditation tickets for my birthday last year and, upon arriving (ten minutes early I might add), found that the entire room was packed. Rather than refunding my tickets or allowing me to come at another time, the host tried to place my mat in the hallway area, near the shoes and the door, and away from the main space. This would have resulted in me being away from the actual instruments (the whole point of sound meditation)(there is furniture and a heavy curtain separating the main room from the hallway) and getting blasted by the cold air seeping through the cracks of the door. My friend forfeited his ticket since they refused to accommodate him in a reasonable way. I squeezed into the edge and covered myself in extra blankets. It was not a relaxing experience. I have since advised others to look elsewhere. read more
