To be honest, I noticed this restaurant a couple years ago, but was dissuaded from trying it because of the upkeep of the surrounding area. That was unfortunate. After a pop-up ad on DoorDash recently, I decided to look at the menu and was very excited to try them out. After running a couple errands, I decided to treat myself to take out, was in the area, and decided to take a chance. I'm glad I did!! Now, as a vegetarian, I love Indian food because there are so many options for me. There is one curry that I love but is generally only offered on chicken, sometimes it can be found with shrimp, but Maharaja offers all their curries with your choice of protein!!! That means I can get my sour sorrel leaf curry with either my choice of paneer cheese or they even offer tofu!!! I've never seen an Indian restaurant that offered tofu. Not only that - but when I asked about the medium spice level, the young lady waved her hand and said ehhh medium. I got spicy. I like spicy. This is truly spicy.!!! I'm in heaven!!! And there's a lot of paneer chunks in the curry. The race that comes with it is a fragrant rice instead of just a plain rice, which is nice. I also got the mixed basket Naan. The naan is interesting. It's like a very large, very thick tortilla - almost like a pizza dough texture. Not the light and airy from a super hot tandoori. Delicious but not the usual naan that I'm used to. The fruit naan made me happy because it didn't have the maraschino cherries that most of the restaurants seem to use. For my appetizer of course I got Samosa. The pastry is wonderful even after sitting and getting to room temperature. It's still a lovely texture. The potatoes inside are a little bit more mashed than I would like, but the flavor is amazing. I thought the cilantro-chutney sauce would be disappointing, but I was pleasantly surprised on that as well. Even though it looked thin and creamy, it actually had a lot of flavor, it was quite spicy, and had a nice hit of citrus that went very nicely with the samosas. I have been to a few Indian cuisine restaurants in the area, and this place definitely topped the cake for me! The food was incredible. Everything was spiced beautifully and a lot of options can be made gluten free. My favorite bite was the mysore masala dosa and the paneer tikka masala. Everything was spiced beautifully. We got the level 3 for most items, and a couple 2's as well. I love spice, but I don't like when food is too spicy I can't enjoy it. This was a good happy point for me. I loved how there were so many options that were gluten free that I could enjoy as well. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side and a seat yourself sort of feel. We went around lunch time and got serviced in a timely manner. They did seem a bit understaffed, so give them a little grace went it comes to service. Had an amazing family style lunch here with friends. Tried the mango lassi for the first time and loved it, it really helped me deal with my spice level 0 tolerance. The butterfly chicken was so good and saucy and easy to eat. The garlic naan stuck out to me as soft and fresh. The server was always attentive. They even noticed a small spot on a plate and took it back and replaced it without being asked. Great place! I wouldn't call myself an expert at Indian cuisine, but I would say they are the most authentic Indian I've tried in Omaha. The sauces are rich and creamy, without being overbearing. They nail the spice level you request. The naan was the perfect; it was not too fluffy and not too thin. The rice was buttery and perfect! The servers were nice and attentive. We had a great time at Maharaja! The place is unassuming with tinted windows then when you open the door you are met with a great atmosphere. Super clean and welcoming. The staff was very nice. My friends first time having Indian food and they answered all his questions and were very nice. He had the butter chicken which he really enjoyed. We had the garlic and butter Naan. The garlic naan was some of the best I've had. I had chicken Malabar which was perfect. The spices were a perfect blend. I got a 4 out of 5 and it was the perfect amount to warm your tongue and have a little nose run. They will customize the spice level on everything which is great and you know it's made to order. Definitely will be back. Wasn't crazy busy on a Saturday night as it should be with the quality of the food. Have a big drink menu as well! We came to Maharaja after being on the road and eating nothing but junk for the past few days. We were lucky to find this little gem. The staff was wonderful, the food was delicious and the portions were much larger than you typically get at other Indian food restaurants. We left feeling full and taken care of. I've been here several times and absolutely love the food! Everything I've tried is amazing and very authentic. Not too spicy, but not too mild either. The masala is amazing! My only complaint is that it takes a while for someone to come take your order, even when the restaurant is not busy. Excellent food, pleasing portions, and thoughtful service. I can see Maharaja as 'the' go-to Omaha Indian cuisine around the region as they expand (or further). This location is close to UNO. We were greeted as we arrived, given an option of two good tables, though they were busy and had most tables full. Many businesses would not have allowed our small grouo to use the larger table we occupied even though it was close to closing time. This was great insightful service and made us more comfortable. We ordered four dishes and tea. The chai tea was comforting with an attractive bit of spice, sweetness, and milk. The sweetness was perfectly mild. Solid execution overall on all the food. Chili chicken(with coriander gravy) and samosas as appetizers were excellent. I had a craving for goat biryani and the offering was an excellent value with big chunks of goat and well cooked falling off the bone. Tons of flavor and well seasoned rice to round out the dish. Butter chicken was also enjoyed by all. Paired well with garlic naan. I believe there is great care made to develop depth of flavor on all the dishes. I've been searching for a good Indian restaurant in Omaha and it's been slim pickings. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of Indian food at Maharaja- it's decently good and yummy!! We ordered masala chai, chicken korma, and paneer tikka masala. The masala chai was perfect and reminded me of homemade chai, the chicken korma was pretty good and pretty flavorful and the paneer tikka was good as well. This is by no means the *best* Indian food I've had, but it is probably the best Indian food I've had in Omaha, which is why I am giving this place 4 stars. Excellent take-out food! I've been to the buffet here several times, which I personally think of much more as a lunch option than a dinner option. My wife however had been persistently telling me that their take-out menu is somehow even better. As is so often the case (ed.: you probably mean always), she was right. The biryani is brilliantly spiced and could qualify for two or three meals. I had the shrimp, our son had the chicken, we all had happy if slightly hot smiles. Fantastic. It was even noticeably well-packaged. Everything about this was right. The naan was hearty and good, and the mint chutney a nice accompaniment. And the Rogan Josh had an addictive tomato to ecstasy ratio - wow! I also loved the South Indian chicken curry. So much flavor! This was a surprising dinner treat. This little indian restaurant is tucked away in the Miracle Hills Plaza, and being very close to my office, I've been wanting to try it! Finally got the chance to have lunch with a friend recently. It was not busy at all during lunch time, so grabbed a table right away. We ordered mulligatawny soup, garlic naan, and onion kulcha for appetizers, and I ordered the chicken tikka masala for my main meal. The soup was not my favorite, the flavor was ok, but was a very thin, watery consistency. The onion kulcha was my favorite of the two breads, soft and flavorful. The chicken tikka masala was maybe one of the best I've had! Had a great depth of flavor and the chicken was perfectly tender. Very good! I will say, the service was a little lacking. Not super friendly, and didn't check in very often despite the place being small and not busy at all. Another thing that wasn't very clear is that you pay at the counter, not at your table. We ordered a chicken 65 and a chicken biryani. We ordered with grub hub delivery. The chicken biryani only had 2 small pieces of chicken in it then the rest was a bunch of rice. I called to complain and the manager said she didn't believe me because her husband cooks it and then she hung up the phone on me. Terrible customer service and we have no reason to lie about the lack of chicken in the chicken biryani. In addition, the chicken 65 was dry and hard like it was overcooked. Love the food, but man, does the service suck. Let me just say that male servers just cannot multitask. These three waiters were just running around with their heads cut off. It was like watching a game of Diner Dash: absolute cluster. The many times I've been here before, these problems described in the story below just never happened. Maybe it was because they weren't that busy. But in any case, enjoy the story... We were pointed to a seat pretty quickly. Waters were brought out quickly too. Everything started when Waiter #1 asked us if we were ready to order, and we confirmed that we were. Waiter #1 goes to get something to take the order on then proceeds to goes to the wrong table to take their order. Waiter #2 asked us if we were ready to order since Waiter #1 went to the wrong table. Waiter #2 repeats our order back to us and everything great. All the sudden Waiter #1 comes over with a mango lassi. No one at our table ordered a mango lassi. The pure confusion that was on his face. Waiter #1 pointed at the only male in our group and said he ordered it. After a good 10 seconds of confusion, he looks over at the other table, you know, the order that he actually took when at the beginning of the story. We looked at the other table, and there was an Asian guy in the same seat my friend is in, two booths down. LOL, he was so mad; he kept saying the other guy looked nothing like him. He really didn't; they looked completely different, but it was still hilarious. Our food comes out and this the chaos begins again! Waiter #2, doesn't know what is on his serving tray. He couldn't read the receipt that the cooks in the back put on the tray. He kept trying to give us a level 5 tikka masala when it was suppose to be level 0. He mixed up one dish completely, calling it by a different name. However!!! The kitchen has their act together! Our waiter just didn't know how to read the receipt. At one point, I asked him how he was so confused when he repeated the order back to us flawlessly. He kept trying to push the spicest dishes on people that could not handle spice. They can't handle spice level 5, and he was just going to leave it at the table! In the end, all of our food was correct when he brought it out, he just couldn't tell which dish was which nor could be read the receipt. (Side note: fill up our waters! I had a level 5 chicken korma. I need more water than my level 0 chicken tikka friends) Moral of the story: ask the cooks which dish is which if you have no idea what they look like, and especially, get the spice levels right. There was a reason good notes were taken during the order taking process and then read back to us. Man, I was about to tie my hair back and show them how it's suppose to be done. read more

This used to be one of our favorite Indian restaurant in Omaha. Me and my friend were there yesterday for lunch. We got seated. As soon as we got seated the first server bought us a menu and took order our drinks. He bought us our chai and water that we ordered. We mentioned to him we were ready to order. He said ok and left. We noticed there was a second server who was the one taking order. We tried to get his attention and he waved back saying wait with his hand gesture. He went to the next table that was there after us and took their order. After that he came to us and said "can I help you maam". I said we are ready to order, and just mentioned we were here before the other table and waiting for a while. Instead of saying "oh I didn't notice and apologizing". He tried to argue saying "No, they were here first, I saw them", gave us a smirky smile and proceed to take our order. We went ahead and placed our usual order and then after a minute we decided not to dine here. We don't want him spitting on our food. We kindly asked for our bill which was around $9.85 for 2 Chai tea and left. We will never return to this restaurant again. I would rather go to Persis or Desi Bites. Called to place a to-go order. Everything went well, until before hanging up, I mentioned I had a Groupon. Then I was told it was only valid for dine-in orders. That is ridiculously stupid - why would you want someone who is willing to buy food and leave to stay, waste the waiter's time, dirty a bunch of dishes, take up table space, and all during COVID? I wish I could rate this place on two scales. One for food and one for customer service. The food was definitely a solid 4. The goat was seasoned well with just a good amount of spice. My problem comes with the owner and her poor attitude towards me the customer. First she says she won't honor the Yelp check in discount because she has never authorized such a thing. Ok sure.. next issue was her order taking. I ordered the goat and butter naan. Instead comes some soup that over never heard of and the naan bread. When brought to her attention she argues me saying that's what I ordered. I never would order something like this soup when clearly I said goat. She proceeded to get a serious attitude with me like she was the one being inconvenienced!! No ma'am that was me having to wait over 20 mins for the wrong order. Her response was to charge me full price for the goat and never at least apologize for the inconvenience. My wife and I are from out of state visiting our adult daughter. We are all fans of Indian cuisine, and my daughter's Indian co-workers from her nearby office recommended the Maharaja where we stopped for dinner. We ordered the mulligatawny soup and samosas as appetizers. The soup was not as thick as I am more accustomed to, but it was delicious. The Samosas were hot, hearty, and flavorful. We each got a different entree of which each of us sampled the other's. The owner asked each of us our preferred spice level and had our choices made to that specification, which we appreciated. All three of our dishes were wonderful. My wife, had lived in India and was familiar with regional cuisines and found that our three dishes all represented the regions she assumed and had a great conversation about them with the owner. I got a lamb dish, my wife got a chicken dish and my daughter's was goat. Having those choices was quite a treat. Next time we visit Omaha we will certainly be back. Went for the lunch buffet with friends and enjoyed it for the most part. When we initially sat down, one of the staff came over and asked us if we wanted something to drink. We asked for water, which he brought, then asked us if we wanted anything else besides water. We declined, then tried to move on with our conversation. He didn't walk away. After a few awkward seconds, we looked at him and he again asked us if we wanted anything besides water. He suggested beer. We again declined, and figured he'd get the hint and leave. No such luck. He just stood there looking at us in this creepy way. Finally we just got up to go to the buffet and when we got back he was off doing something else. Very odd. There were 8-9 dishes on the buffet...pretty standard Indian fare. The chicken tikka masala was tasty. Not too earthy, a gentle spicy kick. The tandoori chicken was good too, spicier than I'm used to but they used the whole chicken so not just breast...which was great, not so dry. There were several vegetarian dishes that were gloopy and unidentifiable. Some good, some bad. Overall a decent experience and the place was clean. read more
