The best part was the service -- Brian the delivery person wanted to leave the arrangement on the front porch -- well no one is home. He did not want the plant to freeze so he did other deliveries and came back later to try again. He stayed in touch the entire time and was great. I've been a customer for many years. Lately staff is unprofessional and untrained. Last week took a carriage load of goods to check out and spend 25 minutes while two high school kids tried to add up a total. They were assisted by another."manager" who was his untrained as they were. Twice I was building incorrect amount and finally gave up and had them refund my payment. I've emailed." customer service." to discuss this and gotten no response whatsoever. Seems like they just don't care. I've spent thousands of dollars in this place over many years and it looks like I'll be moving down the road competitors. McCues's has a very good selection and definitely is priced better. Costco's cut flowers can't be beat. And Wilson is a short drive for a great selection of both plants and cut flowers. Still scratching my head over what an awful experience I've had there. read more

I bought my girlfriend a $200 gift card for her birthday after we moved to the area because she loves gardening and honestly, it's been a big mistake. Every time she's been there to use it they're extremely rude to her and treat her badly, like she's an inconvenience for having a gift card. I don't know what their problem is but it seems like their staff didn't want to be bothered with it or they don't know how to use their computers to use the gift cards that they sell there. It's not just one employee either, it's been different people each time. Whatever their issue is, it's pretty unacceptable to treat people that way. She doesn't even want to go back because they've been such a-holes to her every time, but feels obligated to use up the money. Once she's done spending the gift card money she's never going to go back here and I would never buy a gift card from this place or bring my business here again. read more

There's an information desk where the woman working can answer any question concerning the plants you're buying. All the staff I've interacted with are friendly and knowledgeable. In our experience, the quality of Mahoney's plants, shrubs, decor and supplies are unsurpassed, equal to that of Mahoney's product selections/variety, and staff. On a recent visit, a young lady in the floral shop was extremely helpful selecting a variety of flowers, and creating an arrangement. We needed fresh flowers to replace an awful bouquet that we received from H. Bloom, as a gift from my employer; the flowers were dead, two days after we received the arrangement from H. Bloom. It comes with great displeasure that I am writing this post. A long time customer of Mahoney's, and had my wedding done by them some time ago. Lisa, the florist - had met me with extreme attitude and confrontation the last THREE times I've been in the store. To provide substance, I first came at 715PM roughly six months ago. I asked to have a bouquet made custom. This has never been an issue in the past, they usually ask me how much I want to spend, and they create a masterpiece is about 5 minutes or so. This time, I was met with, "Haa, we are closing soon, I do not have time for that." To which, I store in amazement, the store was open another 45 minutes and was dead - it was a weekday evening. Eventually, she came back over to me, apologized, and made me my bouquet. Today, I went in as a I always do, and grabbed a beautiful bouquet for a special occasion. Seeing as such, I prefer to have my flowers wrapped in some nice paper, rather than just plastic (which is more than reasonable!). She looks at me and goes, "Well, they're already wrapped so I'm not sure what you mean." I was again met with confrontation and aggression. I asked for someone else to please help me, and was met with nothing but class and respect. I have spoken with others amongst my community who have had similar interactions with Lisa. It makes what she be a pleasant experience, extremely unforgettable and rather upsetting. Likewise, I will not be back to this location for the foreseeable future. read more

TURN AROUND! I bought a Lantana to hang in my garden on Wednesday; it cost $39.xx (I forget the change.) It was okay because I couldn't find one anywhere else I had looked. It wasn't large, about a 7" or so pot, very light!!!! Today I found a 9" pot, beautiful Lantana, a lot of dirt in the pot and a full, healthy plant for $11.98 at OCEAN STATE JOB LOT!!!!!! Huge place and great options. Love the varieties you get over here. Definitely one of the best nurseries in the whole region. I needed to pick up some veggies for my diy planter box along with some herbs and flowers for the pots. Taking off 1 star as the place being huge it's really difficult for first timers to know where to find what esp if you plan on getting a bunch of stuff. There's only so many times you can ask a person. Also couldn't find a smaller cart/basket to carry only a handful of items when I went back for the herbs. Not a big pain but as I say quite often in my job, "The flow can be optimized and improved upon" haha. Lots of flowers although didn't see much veggies although I got what I wanted. Tomato and cucumbers. Will need to be back soon as I still have space left over on my limited balcony space. Oh boy, major upkeep coming my way too soon. Glad this place is so close to me. read more

I decided that a Tuesday afternoon might be a less busy time/day for a maiden voyage to this place, and I'm glad of that choice. This place is PALATIAL, it goes on for days! I got a little bit lost trying to sort out where perennials were located, and found myself tooling around in the annuals for a long time before I sorted out which way to go -- turned out I was getting very warm, just hadn't seen the MASSIVE signage on the side of barn for "perennials". I got a nice bunch of plants to help inject some new variety of colors into our existing garden. They have a section of native perennials and lots of reblooming irises and plenty of employees happy to give you some direction, as well as many well-informed customers who had some suggestions based on their own experiences while browsing. They have a huge selection of bushes and trees, and houseplants to beat the band! I think I would have been seriously overwhelmed if I'd gone on a weekend/when it's actually busy here, but I am likely to sneak back over if the lot looks somewhat empty. read more

YOUR SERVICE STINKS I went in to buy a plant. When I went to pay I handed the cashier a bill and said I had the change. I was told that it was too late to give change. Instead of saying I will get someone to help, the person dug in and said it was done. I asked for my bill back. I wanted to discuss this with someone so I went to the information booth. The person there was discussing mole or skin tag removal with someone and I waited. Instead of saying let me help this customer, the person continued to discuss this. I then tried to find a manager. They got him on the walky- talky and he said he was at lunch hang up. I have been a long term customer and was appalled I know know why there are so many plants still for sale read more

Phoenix is incredible - made us lifer for Mahoney! I called to get my mom some plants for Mother's Day and spoke to Phoenix. She was incredibly kind and knowledgeable and patient!!! She made shopping at Mahoneys such a joy and is the best mother's day gift I can ever give. She deserves a medal and a raise for being such a great ambassador for Mahoneys. During these challenging times, we want to give her a big shout out of gratitude for enriching our lives and bringing joy to those who are struggling. I have spent a few hundred dollars every year at Mahoney's over the last several years at multiple of their locations and have been decently satisfied, though their register employees are always disinterested and disingenuous at the Winchester location. I drove 1 1/2 hours from Providence RI because Mahoney's has such a great collection of rare plants that I enjoy looking through and purchasing. This experience, I arrived at 6:03 pm, when they close at 7pm and the front register employee informed me that they closed at 6 due to weather. It's December, it's 43 degrees, and it's raining... welcome to New England. I understand the safety of staff getting home after shift, but the low was 40 for this evening so there was no risk of sleet/slush/ice/ect. Moreover, I had just driven for the past 90 minutes in the exact weather they were closing early for with no problem. While they said they posted this change on their social media, google had no way of updating and the onus should not be on the patron to check every source to see if a business is open for their regularly posted hours. I will say I had a great experience buying a Christmas tree from the Mahoney's in Allston just 1 day before this. Just very disappointed that this happened at my favorite location. read more

COVID Prevention: they do have arrows on the ground to ensure that their small aisles are only going one way. They also have curbside pickup available Selection: found so many plants, flowers and vegetables! We even were convinced to pick up a few more things than we originally wanted to. Great place to just take a stroll or look for something specific. Service: great! Offered us help while we were walking though. This soil ended up bringing fungal knats into my home and has now produced a very frustrating mushroom collection in my monstera plant (worth noting that, until I used this soil, the plant was doing fine). I went shopping during the Christmas sale. Great bargains until i looked at the receipt. They charged me full price for an item . I bought 10 because she clearly told me "how could I go wrong at that price" When I noted her error i was told they would not correct it nor give me any credit or return. Final sale. We had an amazing experience working with Rachel Abbott for our wedding this past June. The bouquets and boutonnieres she put together for us were just what we were looking for! I had been planning on planting bamboo for a while so I finally stopped by Mahoney's on the way home from work. I asked an employee if they carried the non-spreading type. He then gave me the e-mail of the manager. He must handle the purchasing. I sent him an e-mail and never heard back so in the Spring, I swung by on a Saturday afternoon. The employee brought me over to a grove of bamboo that they had in pots. I guess bamboo is a staple that they carry each year. He explained to me how I should plant them. I was using it is a partial shaded area along a fence. He did not think that the shade was going to be a problem and it has not. I purchased three of them and figured that they would spread. I was please with the special care and attention that I received from the staff. They have a wide selection of house plants. I picked up a Ficas plant for the office. I consider bamboo a specialty item which I was please to find there. If I have any gardening needs, I will certainly stop by Mahony's. read more

As one gets older, places like Mahoney's excite an adult more than they ever would someone who is in their teens or 20's. This kind of place that my parents would drag me to when I was a kid would bore me to tears, now I look forward to it like some kind of field trip! I am so glad to have discovered this on our way to Whole Foods about a mile up the road in Woburn. The trip wasn't planned but we easily walked out of there with a $100 of products. Ample, big parking lot and greenhouse space for dddaaayyyyzzzz. I'll remember Mahoney's every spring now to fulfill my needs for starters of everything from hot peppers to exotic herbs. I ended up picking up a bin of six different herbs for $30, already started....already fertilized and already blossoming like crazy in my kitchen window. They included, parsley, oregano, swiss chard, rosemary and mint. We also got a pepper plant, cherry tomatoes, three other herbs and a few flowers along with pots for many of them. Including the base, most pots didn't cost more than $4 and we will use them in future years. I feel I didn't even get to see 1/3rd of the property here. I wasn't that interested in landscaping or the numerous flowers available and those stretch so far back it's almost hard to quantify. Checkout was easy and quick, I was expecting long lines given how busy they were but there wasn't a wait at all which was really nice, I'm not sure if we got lucky or if they have so many places to pay that it doesn't get backed up. I can't say enough great things about Mahoney's other than you need to go if you are interested in your own garden (indoor or outdoor) at all. read more

I have been going to Mahoney's for about 20 years. Sometimes I would plan out my trip and know exactly what I was getting and sometimes I would swing by on my way home to get out of traffic. I always came home with something and was happy with my purchase. The perennials in my garden are quite mature and more than a many are from Mahoney's. There are a lot of complaints on here regarding customer service. I do my homework and research what I want and because I am familiar with their layout, I never really asked for help. The fun is in the browsing. Lately I have been getting into native shrubs and they have what I want and many to choose from. The service in that area was good and I did not feel rushed or ignored. I will be journeying into houseplants this winter so I am curious to see how that experience will be. But as before, I have already researched exactly what plants I want. read more

Don't buy any tree in the GREENHOUSE because there's a 30 day warranty! I've bought two trees, first one was a fiddle leaf fig. When I tried to get help on it, no one returned my call. Second tree is a ficus Daniella, the leaves started falling 10months later. Again, no one cared to help. I've contacted the garden center numerous times, and I don't like leaving bad reviews unless they really can't help you. So if you get anything in the greenhouse, good luck! I used to live a few minutes away from this location and would visit once every other week. I bought a large snake plant from here that is so healthy, I get asked if it's a fake. It's still thriving in my home. I've also purchased various small plants, garden tools and planters. Excellent quality but like everyone mentioned - it is expensive. Every now and then they would have food trucks and vendors come by - pretty cool. Employees are usually friendly and helpful. Oh and how can I forget their amazing holiday selection! Wreaths, garlands, decorations, ornaments and so much more - they go all out for Christmas!
