There are so many positive things to say about this institution both academically and personally…read more The academic: I graduated from YSU in 1983. My late wife graduated in 1982. YSU offered hope for so many young people of my generation. We witnessed, first hand, the harsh reality of deindustrialization on a town dominated by a single industry. Our prospects locally were bleak, our parents were unfamiliar with the strategies required to navigate this new economic landscape, so our hopes rested on an education. YSU was our local option. Back then, it was relatively inexpensive too. Tuition was low compared to today's standards, and grants and scholarships were easy to come by. YSU was a step or two behind the computer wave, but they adapted enough to provide me with the education needed to land and hold a 38 year career with a large tech company. I did have to move to get that job, but we never lost touch with this area, the people, and YSU. Years later, we were able to move back to the area. When my wife decided to become a mental health counselor, she again turned to YSU to get her BA in Psychology. This enabled her to eventually become a School Psychologist in one of the city's high schools. Our educations paid dividends beyond our wildest expectations. We provided well for our family, my wife helped countless youth who were struggling with a difficult start in life, and it gave us the opportunity to travel and experience things that those who lived in past generations, tied to the steel mills, would have struggled to access. I believe YSU is still a great place to gain the foundation to put yourself on a path to a fulfilling life. And who knows, you just might meet that person to spend the rest of your life with. The personal: This is where my wife and I met. Inner Circle Pizza, across the street and now closed, served as the lunch spot for our earliest "dates". We started a conversation there that turned into a 38.5 year love affair and marriage. I came back on what would have been our 39th anniversary. It was 7 months since she passed. I was so happy that Cushwa Hall, Kilcawley Center, and the Maag Library were all open so I could retrace some of the most memorable steps of my long life. The campus has changed. The green spaces have filled in beautifully. The veneer on the buildings and surrounding thoroughfares has been polished, taking on the air of any other fine university town that I've visited. Like me and my late wife, the university has shaken off some of that grittiness that was endemic in this town oh so many years ago. But it hasn't lost the values that made this area such a great place in which to be rooted. I'll forever be thankful for YSU's purpose, mission, and presence in my life.

Only negative thing I have to say is when the weather is bad in the winter, I mean REALLY bad, they RARELY cancel class...even when all the local school districts are closed, you'll have to make your way through the snow/rain/ice/blizzard to school. Also, the parking situation isn't that great, but I suspect it's like that at most commuter colleges. Letter grade: B

Which during that meeting, come to find, my child was threatening self harm during class. Which no one told me about until that following Friday, when the very teacher who viewed my kid as a burden walks out to my car in the pickup line, crocodile tears going, and says "your child is threatening to hurt herself during my class." Great, all the more reason for her to be done here and never see the likes of any of you again. What was once my happy little girl, is now miserable. So, she was done that day, two weeks before first grade graduation which she did not get to attend because I refuse to subject my child to anymore neglect or torture she may have had to go through there. Then it took a month after that, and reaching out to get her personal belongings left behind; had to call the private school board and get a recommendation on how to go about getting my child's things....where I was told I'd likely have to get the law involved because they aren't apart of any school board...even the private one here. So, I wouldn't trust these people as far as I could throw them. One, they have one teacher per class, not two or three like they would have you think. Most of the people there that are "teachers" are parent volunteers, or teachers aids. The tuition they list, is a grand off, plus a grand in co-op fees. They obviously play favorites when the victim of violence isn't welcome back, but the one who hits is. The funny thing in all this though, is the sheer will of just pure laziness in it all. I'm still getting emails from this school, I've yet to be removed from their lists. Why....who knows, but the incompetence, and will to overlook anything bad there is unreal.

A close family member utilized her as her agent to buy her home, and after closing arranged for Kathleen's husband, Shawn to complete multiple repairs that needed done. She prepaid him $4,000 for various jobs he claimed he would be back to complete, and she never saw him again. She spoke to Kathleen who offered no solution, and when I contacted her myself she told me "once the contract is closed it's out of my hands, you should call him (her husband) about that". I of course did try to call him, left a vm and never heard a word...surpise surprise. I really am floored at the level of unprofessionalism and callousness that it takes to let your husband steal from a client and your only rebuddle is "well I got my commission so not my problem." I even called to speak to her broker about the situation, but that also got swept by the wayside apparently. I would be VERY cautious of working with this realtor in particular and honestly it doesn't speak volumes that the brokerage didn't seem to care either. I'm sure they will just say all of this isn't true to save face, but I just don't want anyone else to end up in the same situation. With so many options for realtors, I would look elsewhere where integrity is more of a priority.

My son was falsely accused of something he did not do, which demonstrates serious issues in how students are disciplined. The meals are consistently poor and barely edible. My daughter even suffered food poisoning from the lunches. On top of that, students have very little time to eat. According to my son, by the time they sit down, there is only about 5-10 minutes left to finish their meals. Recess and breaks are practically nonexistent. My 11-year-old son reported having only a 10-minute recess once a week, which is insufficient. My daughter in middle school stated that she gets virtually no break time at all--just a few minutes at most. In conclusion, this school fails on multiple levels: student treatment, nutrition, and daily schedule. I cannot recommend it. If the school truly wanted to improve, they would need to address all of these issues.

The best guest service experience I've ever had at a cosmetology school! Professional level work,…read moreand COVID-safe procedures! I highly recommend anyone needing any hair services to come here! Facilities: I came in for guest services (specifically for a perm and haircut). Le Jeane Academe is located within a cute Colonial Revival style building that's as charming on the inside as it is outside! The interior is very modern and spacious. All of the equipment, from styling seats to manicure tables were very new in condition. There's even a cafe inside, although it was closed when I came due to the pandemic. Hygiene: All staff wear masks and appropriate personal protective equipment. They also check your temperature when you come in. Everything that a guest would touch, from the pens to the chairs and tables were sterilized between guests. On top of this, I had an entire area of 10 styling seats to myself (and the two students and instructor, of course). The safety measures taken combined with the ample social distancing allowed me to leave with peace of mind and no anxiety about whether or not I might've contracted coronavirus. Student to Instructor Ratio: The student to instructor ratio was 2:1. While this review rates Le Jeane Academe from the point of view of guest services, I think any prospective cosmetology student should pay attention! Other schools I've been to, often have an instructor supervising 5 students, as well as floating between multiple guests. The best part is that I had one instructor dedicated to me; she didn't divide her time amongst other guests or students, and supervised my service the entire time. Quality of Work: I was extremely satisfied with the turnout of my perm and cut. The students clearly take pride in their work, and the same is true for the instructor. Of course, as students, there were a few moments when they needed help, but with an instructor dedicated to me, she was literally always available to offer help and instruction. Unlike some other schools where the students may need to call an instructor for help, at Le Jeane Academe, because all of the instructors' attention was on her students and one guest, she watched and was able to anticipate moments when the students would've had questions and show them. Not only did it probably provide better instruction, but it sped up my time here, as there was no unnecessary downtime and everything just flowed seamlessly! Conclusion: As a guest, I got professional salon quality results with my perm and haircut, with the whole visit taking about 3.5 hours, which is slightly slower than a professional salon, but much faster compared to most schools I've been to. Not too shabby, considering I only paid $48 for services that would've easily cost me 3x to 4x more at a salon!
