Yikes! I called Kim to have her staff clean a 300 square foot studio that a tenant moved out of. The results were disastrous: Missed grease spots, half cleaned window sills, and even toothpaste still left on a bathroom wall. More disappointing than anything was Kim's defensiveness when I told her that it wasn't done right. She insisted that our agreement didn't cover walls or other things that were not cleaned, and that because she used '' green cleaners'' some things weren't cleaned. Baloney, and a horrible excuse for a half hearted job. Although she had her crew come back to rectify the situation, I shouldn't have to have to tell a cleaning crew to actually clean. I, too, have had similar problems with Maid in the Shade and Kim, the manager. They did not clean the bathroom floor (as there were black marks and several other small debris there). And in the other bathroom we found a new, sheathed, Band-Aid behind the door after they left. They failed to hang up two bath towels we left for them to do, the bars were behind the door, indicating they didn't even close the door to see the hanging bars there [and the Band-Aid]). Shows they didn't clean the floor, at least not well. They did not use the scrubber for the shower glass like I showed them, leaving water spots. Failed to clean my sink in the MB. A tousled sofa throw was not folded. The window tracks were cleaned as I asked, as were the hand marks on the walls (though not very well). I get it that sometimes things are missed, but these were too many. They didn't do ANYTHING not asked of them. When I called Kim she was extremely defensive, so much that I would characterize it as offensive. She said she didn't believe me when I told her, saying her crew is excellent and the leader has been with her for 14 years and she never missed anything! Sorry, Kim, but they did. And I don't need anyone to call me a liar, even multiple times, when I am paying her very unusually high prices. Kim is offensive and rude, at least I found her that way. So, good-bye Kim, and I suggest people reconsider this overpriced, underperforming agency. read more

Instead of trying to talk, she got belligerent. I tried to give her feedback about the way she was talking to me as a customer. But she did not want to hear it and got more sarcastic and condescending. And here's the best part.... She called me an asshole and hung up the phone. Yup called her customer an asshole and hung up the phone. All of this for forty dollars. Hope it was worth it. I'VE BEEN PAYING THIS BUSINESS OWNER FOR OVER 3 YEARS. SHE CALLED ME TODAY, VERY RUDE AND HOSTILE... TELLING ME SHE NEEDS TO INCREASE MY PRICES. It's not the fact that she needs to increase my price that bothered me but how she did it. She called me while I was working and starts telling me about how much she has to pay her staff and everything else and how she has to increase my price and it's non negotiable. She continued to be hostile and didn't want to hear my feedback about me telling her that her approach is inappropriate and unprofessional and she could have handled herself differently. This was the worst housecleaning service I have Ever experienced! So much was left uncleaned, I had to point out simple clean ups, toilets, sink, mirrors, stove top, etc. After 3 hours a staff of 3 did not have my house clean on a pretty easy job. I was moving in & wanted a thorough move-in house clean. I think we had 1 professional cleaning lady & 2 who were being trained. We tried to work with the management, by inviting her to come to the home the day of service to see why I was reporting a poor job. She refused, saying she backs her employees work & she does not give refunds. We were not looking for a refund, simply the job done well for the $200 we had paid! I do not recommend this service to anyone. I was told that the first cleaning was going to be thorough. When they where done the floors where still dirty and none of the furnature was moved and atleast vacuumed under. There where a lot of missed spots. The shower doors still dirty, the soap trays still had soap in them, under the couch was still a mess and both bathtubs where still dirty. I would have paid if they took there time and did a good job, but this was horrable. I would never use this company again. read more

They didn't dust the items on the plate rail, only the plate rail itself, so I called them back to do that - which they did, some. I lifted up a throw rug and there was smutz under it, so called them back again to do that. They hadn't lifted ANY of the throw rugs. While I was waiting for them to finish that, I noticed a lot of dirt behind the settle. The leader said "We don't move furniture" and I said "Then vacuum under it!" For the price ($185/hour for 3 girls) I expected a LOT better cleaning! However they did get the toilet really clean, and that's a hard job with our well water; but they missed cleaning the soap dish. read more

Not thrilled. The team was nice enough and took out the trash like I asked, but the end result was just okay. The floor still had dirt and dog hair on it and it appears that they did not mop in the kitchen. I know that it is nearly impossible to get floors spotless when dealing with animal hair, but this was just sloppy work. I've had better service for less money. read more

Also, they charge almost 55/hr. per person including the teenager that they brought who cleaned my small bathroom for two hours. We started using Maid in the Shade based on a friend's recommendation. At first, our 2 bedroom apartment seemed to be cleaned well. Then as services repeated monthly, attention to detail was left at the waste side. My wife and I would come home to find areas not even dusted. When ever we raised concerns to Kim, she seemed concerned and assured us it wasn't normal. Well, we have decided to cancel services after another issue. As part of "the provided services" they will change your bedding. We took them up on this service from day one. This last cleaning visit, they "forgot" to make my daughters bed. This is Kim's direct response after "investigating": "Abel, apparently your daughter's bed is now a bunk bed. The team leader that was there hasn't been there since you got the bunk bed and we simply forgot to make the bed. I'm sorry for the inconvenience." She did offer to have them come back out Monday (cleaning was on a Friday), but that made no sense - since my daughter had to sleep in the bed. Anyway, I would recommend checking their work BEFORE they leave. Again, Kim's comment even proves no ownership. What is missing is attention to detail. Even though we were charged the full rate. I just hope Maid in the Shade improves from this - truly. read more

Also you charged us for the time to clean windows and then had the nerve to tell my wife your girls do not do windows. Also I did not see the dirt under the microwave until I moved it. This company is insured and bonded. If something is broken or missing, or someone gets hurt, they have you covered. They have been in business 21 years and most employees have worked for them 5 or more years (which speaks volumes, for me). Here is the kicker. They gave us a bid at a really high hourly rate - not sure if that is the regular rate or an increased rate since we are 20 miles away. The owner acknowledges that they are expensive but explained that the cost includes insurance and she also said that her employees work more quickly and efficiently than their competitors. When I refused to pay for the three hours they threatened to take me to small claims court. We just had the pleasure of working with Kim and her staff getting our house cleaned! She was very professional, for our first cleaning she called to set up the cleaning time, called me the day before to confirm the time that her staff would be at our home, and then called the next day to follow up on our cleaning. On to her staff's job of our house, we were SO thrilled when we came home to our house! I appreciated that they used white vinegar to clean our floors, no icky chemicals that might be bad for our dog. Every sink was polished, surface dusted, cabinet wiped down. We had a lot of dust and dog hair, and it was all neatly removed, and everything was put back in place. Having Maid In The Shade clean our home has given us the gift of time and happiness, neither my husband or myself love cleaning. We started using Maid in the Shade (MITS) on a friend's recommendation - she was so right. I don't know what they do to get our carpet so clean, but it's better than it has been in years. Our base boards are clean. They change the linen. And, the bathrooms sparkle! MITS / Kim is very good about communication and has accommodated some of our schedule changes. It might be MITS but they take the gloves off when it comes to scouring... or maybe they just keep em' on and scrub really hard. Not great if you have kids or need more than dusting/bathrooms/floors. I've used house cleaners in other areas and they always wiped down the wall smudges, cabinets, interior windows, baseboards. Made in the Shade was professional and came when they said they would, but didn't provide anything better than I could do myself with a Roomba vacuum and an hour sweeping cobwebs from the corners of rooms and scrubbing the toilet/shower. I paid cash (not a discount deal) for an hour for 3 people 3-4 times about 6 months ago, just logged onto Yelp to see if anyone else is getting good reviews for houses with kids. read more
