BEST Lemon Meringue Pie & Coconut Creme Pies Delectable flavor, light delicate crust & exquisite presentation
    Christine R.

On holiday from Los Angeles, our first stop on PEI in Charlottetown was Lunch at Maid Marion's where we enjoyed a lobster roll & delicious fried haddock served with fresh cut turnips -- amazing value for such great food! For dessert we splurged on Lemon Meringue Pie for dessert with no regrets. So impressed with the Lemon Meringue, we ordered one for our family's Canada Day BBQ & also took a chance on the Coconut Creme Pie. Needles to say, we had no problem emptying the two beautiful Pyrex pie dishes! We couldn't help notice the cinnamon rolls situated at the counter so we served those for a Coffee Party. These massive cinnamon rolls proved to be another instant hit. All I can say is Cinnabon should pack up their cinnamon & go home! These fresh buttery spirals of goodness should be on everyone's PEI list! On our last night, we were invited to a fish fry hosted by our cousins so thought we'd repeat our same pie selections. Again, we left with empty Pyrex dishes! Our only regret is we didn't get to breakfast at Maid Marion's due to a tight trip itinerary. Next time we'll schedule it first up!

Quick and easy diner. If you want breakfast all day and great milkshakes then you should come here, but be prepared to wait for service as they tend to be busy all the time

Food was only fair. No butter on the toast. Wait staff was grumpy. Had to plead for a second cup of coffee. Kinda pricey for the servings.

Decent restaurant with decent food, probably one of Charlottetown's most overrated restaurants. Far too small and never feels clean.

There was a staff turn over while we were there, and it was seamless. The workers flowed effortlessly. The old fashioned (General Scott) was delicious. So smooth and comforting. Tuna crudo and Major Tom's steak on toast were absolutely amazing. We decided to order meals, as the apps were so good. Blue salmon, with root veg, superb. Ribs and Mac and cheese, fall off the bone meat and coleslaw that was the best on the island! The piri piri chicken was delicious, except the skin was on the chicken and it had a thick layer of fat beneath the skin that was inedible. We arrived on a Thursday evening in early June, and the restaurant wasn't quite half full, with tourism season still spinning up to full capacity. We were seated upstairs, which, like their whole space, gives the historic brick building centre stage. The menu a decent size for a place of Brickhouse's pedigree, with several apps and about a dozen mains. They were of the typical sort you'd expect to see in an up-casual restaurant, plus more seafood since you know, it's PEI. It's not particularly inventive or exciting, but there was still plenty of interesting options. I was feeling like some Island beef, so I opted for the short rib, while my other half went for the mac and cheese, with the gluten free noodles subbed in. The large chunk of boneless beef was ultra tender and juicy, and the velvety jus amplified that even more. The seasonal veg was a bit sparse and not especially exciting, but the crisp slices of roasted potato were a welcome addition to the plate. It's hard to have a bad mac and cheese, and Brickhouse passed with flying colours - plenty of cheesy goodness, and a nice bit of browning from some time under the broiler. A side salad of everything bagel-style Caesar salad could have used some more seasoning to make the famous bagel flavour more prominent in an already garlicky and savoury dish, but I appreciated the creative spin nonetheless. For dessert, we split the triple chocolate espresso cake. It presented really well, topped with a sliced strawberry and a dusting of confectioner's sugar and cocoa powder, in a pool of white chocolate pastry cream, but the execution wasn't quite up to the visuals. The cake was on the dense side, and wasn't moist enough to compensate, and the espresso flavour was MIA. Service was easy going and attentive. Brickhouse is lovely space in the heart of downtown Charlottetown, but the kitchen needs a little more attention to detail to truly stand out. It can be easy to coast by in a very touristy place, but people appreciate creativity and quality, no matter where they're from.

Guac was super fresh, quesabirra broth was superb, and enchiladas were tangy and bright. Service could be at tad faster in regards to checking in on the table but I think they will iron out the kinks as they settle in. Despite that, food is out fast and hot! Parking is street parking, paid during day but free after 5pm and on weekends, can be tricky downtown but often will get lucky and get a close spot. Otherwise worth a little stroll to get there if you park further away. Accessibility: not currently wheelchair or mobile device accessible as there is porch stairs to get in. Tables would be okay to get a wheelchair under once inside though. Didn't use the bathroom so unsure how that would be. Great veggie options, not sure about vegan. Good servings and definitely don't miss the tres leche cake!

Based on our experience…read moretonight, I was somewhere between 2 and 3 stars, but I'm rounding up to 3 because I'd rather leave constructive feedback than just trash a place. We kept it pretty simple: two burritos and an order of nachos. A few positives first. I really appreciated the cold carafe of water being dropped at the table right away without having to ask. I also loved the two hot sauces served in the short bottles. Being able to add as much heat as I wanted definitely helped the meal. The al pastor on the nachos had good flavor too--I could really taste the pineapple, although I think the meat would have benefited from a much harder caramelization. Unfortunately, the biggest issue was execution. The nachos were very sloppily assembled. The toppings weren't dispersed throughout the chips, so probably 40-50% of the chips were basically bare. There was very little brightness or freshness to the dish--hardly any pico de gallo, no salsa available, and things like pickled jalapeños or even a little chopped cilantro would have made a huge difference for pennies. Instead, it was mostly refried beans, meat, some partially distributed cheese, and a small squirt of sour cream. I ordered a side of guacamole for $6.50 and received what looked like maybe 3-4 tablespoons. That's pretty difficult to justify. The burritos were the biggest disappointment. They were served cut completely in half, which seems unnecessary for a dry, handheld burrito. It leaves you eating two open ends instead of being able to pick up a properly wrapped burrito and eat it normally. More importantly, they were incredibly dry. Looking inside, everything seemed piled into the center--rice, lettuce and protein--with very little pico or anything else to bring moisture, acidity or freshness. There isn't salsa available to compensate, either. I ordered a side of pico for another $5.50 and received maybe 1/4 cup. Even after adding that, I found myself using a ridiculous amount of hot sauce and salt just trying to wake everything up and add some moisture. The food also wasn't particularly hot temperature-wise. Service was okay but pretty middle-of-the-road. Our server got us started, but after that we barely saw him. They also don't offer a non-alcoholic beer, which was disappointing. Maybe we caught them on an unusually busy night or toward the end of a long shift, because the 4.7 rating suggests plenty of people have had much better experiences. But based strictly on what we were served, the food needs much tighter execution--better distribution of ingredients, more freshness and moisture, hotter food, and considerably better value on the add-ons. There were a couple of good flavors in there, particularly the al pastor, but overall this was a frustrating meal and not one I could rate higher than 3 stars.
