Stopped in with my husband at Main Barber. Modern vibe and very comfortable. As out of town visitors just popping in you take a risk and this one paid off great! Alex, also know as Wish, did a terrific job. Hair cut, fade and eye brow clean up all done meticulously and with style. Alex was very welcoming and professional. We were visiting Half Moon Bay and walked by this barber and the men who walked out had nice haircuts. We took a chance and looked online for an appointment and was lucky enough to get in. I look at some of these ratings and realize that there are a lot of people in our area that have no patience and don't even know what quality is. This barber is great. They've cut my hair multiple times and done great. They've cut my boys hair multiple times has been great. Ignore the other bad ratings. read more

I'd leave a half star if I could. The worst and such a shame since options for youth are limited on the coast. Main Barber's online booking system is completely janky, and they have 2 locations a block from each other. It's never clear where to go, and if you go to the wrong location and are therefore 5 minutes late to your appointment, they cancel on you - even if no one is in the shop. Zero empathy or professionalism from the staff, who seems to forget they're in the service industry. I'll NEVER return. read more

After several pretty good haircuts, where i was always on time, and they were always ready for me, my last cut will be THE last. My assigned barber was busy cutting somebody's hair, and started me more than 20 minutes late. The haircut was OK, but after, the barber announces his adapter they use to swipe a credit card is broken (they use the Square service to process credit cards) so he can only take cash. I didn't have enough on me. He then asks if i have a Venmo account, which is how I paid. read more

I came in for a last minute appointment with Luis. This was my first time at this shop. First off, I felt extremely welcome and he had me intrigued with dialogue the entire time. He's very much a people person and made me feel very comfortable. As far as the cut goes, he definitely went above and beyond. I took his advice on a new style and Im glad I did as it looks great for my interview tomorrow. The attention to detail was impeccable. Went in with my BF this was his fist time going to a barber. We we're greater by a Daniel or Alejandro guy who was was very rude, because my bf wanted a blended undercut and didn't know much abt haircuts and the guy continued to say no u don't want that and proceed to ask for another haircut and my bf said he didn't know what he wanted to then be responded with " well I don't know what you want me to do with that'" when he clearly had told him what he wanted before. It would have been nice to hear some recommendations . Afther he got his haircut he was left with hair allover the place and was not cleaned up at all, there was pieces of hair on his face when he walked out and had to clean it off himself with a wipe. I was super excited when I heard that there was a retro men's barbershop in town. I dropped in unscheduled during a quiet weekday and was immediately greeted with an unhappy vibe in the room. The receptionist seemed vaguely present and clearly bored. I booked a cut and came back. My barber was bored and disinterested to a point of being ridiculous. My fade took 10 minutes and was fine. There were several barbers and employees in the room, all with the same stoned or bored attitude. The bathroom was gross (look behind the W/D). The concept and overall design are fantastic, but the customer service is atrocious. The first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of a retro barbershop is the fun atmosphere and rapport... which is non-existent here. read more

I've always been a cut my own hair kinda guy and every once in a while I would just go to super cuts to get things straitened out. Well I'm nearly 35 now and I was thinking it was time for a big boy hair cut. So I looked up barbers near me and found main barber. Let me tell you this place is awesome!!! Laid back barber shop vibe with great stylists. Super great prices only a few bucks more than a super cuts and well worth the extra coin. Walked in the door for my appointment and was told it would be a couple minutes. (I was early) but they immediately offered me something to drink. Water? Soda? Beer? wait what? Beer hell yeah thank you. Sat down with a surfer mag they had out and before I knew it I was ready to go. Anna was my stylist and she was awesome. Great attention to detail. Kinda knew what I needed as I explained I had never really been to a barber. She cut my hair perfect kinda looks like Anderson Coopers cut. Anna went totally above and beyond cleaning up the back of my neck and edges with a strait razor and hot towel! Amazing! I will 100% be back this place is rad. read more

Ok. The barbers I think are actually really good. But why I feel they are 3 stars is that it feels more like a hang out than a barber. I get it. Half moon Bay is a small town and a lot of the barbers friends come in but it's really weird when you see the barber hanging outside the shop with his buddies or maybe your getting a haircut and a friend comes in to hang out where you have no real conversation with the person cutting your hair. The appointment system can use a little work. I've made an online appointment for a specific barber and he didn't even show up to work the next day and I was never notified. But I do think making an appointment online is cool. read more

How have these guys not been reviewed yet - it really is a great place! I don't know what you other guys look for in a place to get your haircut - so, I won't speak for you; but, I will share what I like. I like a place that looks like they know how to cut a man's haircut. A place that doesn't smell like a nail salon and chokes me. A place that just seems - manly. If it brings back memories of me getting a haircut with my dad when I was a kid - bonus points. Julie Hatcher's "Main Barber" checks all the above boxes and then some! I walked in and the place was simple man style - think dark wood floors, white subway tiles and real barber chairs. It's like old school without being "kitchy" the only trinkets she has are antique barber tools mounted on the stand-up mirrors at each station. As soon as I sat in the chair, Julie asked if I wanted a beer. Yes, you read that right - drinking beer and getting a haircut, beautiful. Julie has a proper beauty salon down the street and as we got to talking, she said she had always wanted to open a barber shop. She takes her time - clippers on the side, scissors on the top and a straight razor on the neck and sideburns. This is the real deal. She gets the bonus points also. After the razor on the neck and 'burns you get the hot towel to wipe it down and a splash of Bay Rum to finish. This is a spot dad would have liked. Get out and get your cut on... Anna exceeded my expectations today. She cut my 6 year old sons hair. I was nervous because he had long golden surfer style hair to his shoulders. He insisted he wanted it cut and we brought her photos of the idea of what he wanted. She quickly pulled the cut off while having a full conversation with my son and answering all of his questions. These guys and gals are legit. Real barbers with real skills! My first and second haircut was with Javier who took his time and really paid attention to detail which is a must for me. Lately, I have been going during the day when it's not busy and Danny cuts my hair. He's fantastic and deserves just as much props as Javier. He trims down my eyebrows and always gives me the hot towel treatment and straight razor/hot lather around the ears and in the back. He is also grateful for my military service and hooks me up with a nice discount allowing me to return the favor in kind with considerable gratuity. Thanks to all the barbers at Main Barber and to Julie for opening a real man cave of a barber shop here in HMB. Sidenote - having a beer while getting a haircut is first rate. The best men's barber and grooming I've ever experienced. Elijah was awesome, he brought me and a buddy in and worked after hours for a quality cut and beard trim and the rest is history. Real down to earth funny conversations, no frills and nothing but good vibes with everyone in and out of the shop... if you don't appreciate that or get offended easily then prob not the place for you. I hit this place ever couple of months and finally felt I have enough of an opinion to be reliable. I love the barber shop, it's more of a youthful place where the stylist/barbers are in the late 20's or 30's, and the atmosphere reflects that. The music is uptempo and they talk to you like you belong there, makes me feel very at ease. I have had Anna cut my hair mostly, but a couple of gentlemen have done it as well. It's always clean cut, and I love that they use a razor to do a final clean up when the hair cut is done. It keeps your hair clean a couple of days longer:) read more

I went in there and there was only one person in a chair. The receptionist asked if I had an appointment. I said no and she asked if I wanted to make one for another day. What part of barber shop are you missing? A barber shop is where you go and sit on leather chair, reading a magazine, with some sort of sports on a shitty little TV in the corner, while you're waiting for the next barber to be available. You talk sports and politics and solve the worlds problems. If I want that kind of atmosphere, I'll go to my girlfriends hair salon with her. You had a good chance of making a great place here. When I replied yes, I was told to sit.......then her friend came in and she was very nice to her, and she began cutting her friends hair. There were no other barbers in the shop. Daniel did an okay job, not what I had asked for a cut. Didn't trim around sides of the ears left strands of tiny hairs behind. Overall he was nice guy. Him and I and the rest of the workers all chatted of the 80's rock bands which was actually cool. Call ahead of time for appointments. read more

This is a great place to get your hair cut properly. Hot towels. Straight razor shave. Quality cut. Great people working there. It's hard to drop in on the weekends (when they have complimentary beer) but you can schedule online or over the phone. Agree with previous posts that it has been hard to schedule, but they have more barbers now. read more

This place is AWESOME. My fiancé just got his beard trimmed and cleaned up by Dan and it seriously has never looked better. We are getting married in Half Moon Bay in a couple months and we were trying it out for a place he can go get cleaned up on our wedding day. We will definitelyyyyy be booking for day of.
