1/5 experience. Chaotic vibe inside, if loud music, talking and is just wild inside. Barber cutting hair asked "what would you like" I asked if I could show or use a picture as a reference (showed different pictures of same haircut and angles). Talks and acts like he knows or has the haircut/image memorized on how to have the haircut done. 20 minutes later, he completely does a different haircut. Could have asked to have the haircut be shown again but was just too busy talking to other people. Could not cut a simple haircut. Left my hair exactly the same as before (just took 20 minutes of who knows what he was doing for it to completely turn out the same way and different than the picture. This was my second time here and honestly, would not go back here because of that. Horrible service and way of cutting hair. Butchered my hair but of course, could not let them know I disliked it. I asked for a fade with a line along the top to separate the longer hair from the shorter hair. I told him to start from skin at the bottom and blend the fade in. Instead, he gave me a flat, bald cut with a super high fade, no line, cut the top of my head very short, and left the sides long. I look like Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber after his haircut. The barber's name is Jose. At first, he completely missed cutting one side of my hair, so I had to go back to get it fixed. When I returned, some guy--who probably didn't know I could understand Spanish--was talking trash and badmouthing me for coming back. Then Jose took even more off the top without me asking, which made the haircut even worse. Normally, I don't care if a haircut turns out a little off, but I've never had people actually tell me it looked bad--until today. I've gotten comments all day that made me go back and take a closer look. Now that I see it, I can tell how ridiculous it looks. And it's not all on him, either. They had the music blasting so loud I couldn't even hear myself think. How about stop treating the barbershop like a dance club and start treating it like a barbershop? I'm sure he missed some of my directions just from the noise. He also seemed more focused on not having to redo any work--which he actually told me--than on making sure the client was happy. Totally unprofessional and just a bad experience, especially for a $50.00 haircut. The pictures are me doing my best to make it look halfway decent. I have scheduled two times with Diego for morning appointments and the first time I got a notification that he canceled my appointment with no warning and then texted me three hours later saying something came up. The barbers in Redwood City were nice enough to fit me in. This second time, I had an appointment with him at 8:30 and he texts me at 7 saying he needs to reschedule for later and at a different location. This is two times in a row being completely inconsiderate of my time and canceling/rescheduling last minute with little to no warning. read more

Felix!!! Our experience was amazing!!! My son is on the spectrum (high functioning) and has some sensory preferences; Felix did an amazing job of taking it slow and talking through what he was going to do each step of the way. I believe he is monolingual Spanish speaking so it helped that I speak some Spanish, but honestly you can show him of a picture of what you want and walk out with exactly that! So most of the time I spend my reviews on venues/ restaurants and the such. Very seldom would I spend time writing a review on a haircut. Not until now. So this place was recommended by a friend. And being part of the Elite team, I thought this place deserves a visit. My appointment was set with Diego. I already had a camaraderie with this dude because two of my Uncles were named Diego, along with my Great Grandfather!! AH ha, so Diego the owner it is, to give me a haircut. Fast forward, A nice early afternoon, and I proceed to travel North about 18 miles up the peninsula and right off El Camino Real. The place is not that hard to find on 25th Avenue. The parking was not that challenging at all. So the atmosphere is hip, just mix it up a bit with the sounds of razors buzzing and heavy bass beats of music in the air and there you have it. All of this, in my opinion lends to a nice experience. So after waiting outside a bit for him to call my name, and giving me the heads up he was running a little late, its now time for my head chopping!! ;-) Just kidding my hair chopping.! Lol Ha ha ha!! The place inside is very clean, the ambiance is a bit hipster, a bit latino, which is comfortable for me since I am part Spanish, and can speak the language. Diego greets me , and I take a seat as he evaluates what would look best for my new clipped and shaved look. I already gave him a forewarning that I did not know shyte about the type of cut that I wanted! All I knew is that I wanted my hair with a razored in part.:) Yeah yeah like when I was 4-5 years old...seriously I always wore a part. Again the ambiance is cool, it is like this kick back shop that will make you feel at home. With general chaotic noise from the street, to the nice musical beats thru the speakers, to the smells of lathered shaves and hair tonic, not to mention the empty bottles of Tequila canisters in the background adding to the visual flavor. At first I thought they were big decorated canisters for salt and pepper shakers ( smoke another one Joey) Ha! Well anyways, on with this review..no more tequila for you Joey:) So here we go onto my hair. So "buzz..buzz" and "clip..clip"... is all I could hear. With some quick conversation I made with Diego , our talking in Spanish, I still could not see the masterpiece he was designing on my head. Did it make me a bit nervous? Sure I think just a bit, but I sensed that I was in good hands. So 30 minutes later, what was the end result you ask? Was I happy with my new cut? Should you go and visit them at Elevate? Yes and yes !! Do they only serve a real young age group? SO the answer is No! Listen, I thought I was going to be one of the older ones, and there were some people way older than me hunched over and" movin and groovin" when they walked out that door. :) So Both young and old are welcome here! They serve the entire Peninsula and South Bay from as far North as SF to as far South as San Jose. You know when people are following you from these places..you must rock!! So listen, if you are super happy with this place, a nice gratuity would be appropriate and appreciated, as well as perhaps a nice bottle of Tequila too:) Just sayin and a suggestion. Quick origin story. I have never treated myself to a "fancy" haircut. The majority of my younger life up to college, my mom cut my hair (Hi mom!). Once I hit college, I started going to the local Supercuts then Great Clips and just rotated through the available employees. Some of the cuts were good, some of them made me happy that my hair grows back. This year, after going a month longer than I normally do between cuts, I decided I wanted to let my hair grow out a bit more, give it some style and use some product to keep it looking crispy all day long. I also wanted to try an actual barbershop and work with someone who I could book in the future, so I can have the same person work on my hair and build that trust relationship. Enter Steve L, from Elevate Barber Shop. I live close to Elevate on 25th Ave and have always seen their shop the many times I drove up and down the street, so decided on a whim at about 6pm, to look them up. Went to the Elevate website, clicked the book appointment link, saw that Steve L was available at 7:30pm, selected the Gentleman's Cut, put in my payment info online, finished the booking and immediately received a text message confirming my appointment. I got to the shop about 10 minute before my appointment, was immediately greeted by some of the other barbers closest to the door and was pointed down a few chairs to where Steve was. Steve greeted me and let me know it was going to be a few more minutes till he was done with his current client, which was fine as I was there early. Once it was my turn, I hopped in his chair and we were off! We talked for a couple minutes where he asked what I was looking for and I told him that this was the first time I had been to a barber shop and the first time I wanted to work on a style for my hair. I let him know what I liked, short around the sides and the back, but then longer on the front, top and upper sides. I showed him a picture of a hair style that I wanted to work towards, as I would need to continue to let my hair grow out, but also wanted to look good between now and then. I didn't know the correct haircut terms, but Steve understood what I was going for. I also let him know that if he felt something would look better shorter/longer that he had full authority to go for it, as this is what he does! At the end of the cut, I was very happy with what I saw. He gave me exactly what I had asked for and also pointed out that as my hair continues to grow, we will be able to keep the sides close and clean just how I like, while allowing the upper sides, top and front of my hair to grow. I was very happy with the cut, the shop and Steve's work. I have since been back 2 additional times and booked Steve L for all the appointments. My experience with Steve has exceeded all my expectations from when I made that initial first appointment to now. He is personable, has a good sense of humor, asks questions about what you want with your cut and he knows his craft and performs it at the highest level of execution. I found my barbershop in Elevate and I found my barber in Steve L. I trust him with my hair and would follow him to any other location he ended up working at. If you are on the fence about trying out Elevate Barber Shop, take a chance, book with Steve L, and I do not think you will be disappointed! read more

Partner and I got some hair cuts and they fixed us up with a proper fade and I got a very needed beard line up. My kid was pretty satisfied with his cut. He has curly hair which he felt came out a little flat on top, but that's because my kid had it weighed down with coconut oil curl cream! Shampoos are off-limits for now. Diego did a fantastic job on his sideburns and neck, and I look forward to seeing what the cut looks like after he shampoos it at home. I would give 000 stars to this place if I can. My barber was Oscar Velazquez, and man was he obnoxious. Didn't ask me what I want and if what he is doing at least show me once in the mirror to confirm. Spending more time in selecting the music (that too Awful , horrible music) then actually spending time on listening to me or asking me what I want. Really really horrible experience and I would not recommend to go here. I had to ask him three times that I want the premium beard shave. and he just put water on my face and SCRAPED my face. I cant tell you how much it is burnt me during the whole time. If you don't know how to shave then say I DONT KNOW and let me ask for help. Please do not go here. Save your money and take it somewhere nice. This is a HORRIBLE PLACE and I don't know how they hire their BARBERS. I made appointment even booked with Diegoyourbarber showed up then I got a text a few minutes after appointment time that he wasn't going to make it. I wouldn't recommend coming here at all. What's important about the business is consistency peoples time is important as much as the barbers time nobody likes when the time is wasted, whether it's the barber or the customer. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. This was the first time I had gone to this barber shop. I showed up to the barbershop about 5 minutes before my appointment and was greeted well by the Diego, who was the barber that I was scheduled with. He told me he was running 10- 15 minutes behind and I was okay with that. Finally got in the chair at about 3:45 (my appointment was at 3:30) and sat down. Diego began cutting my hair and about 15 minutes later his next client came in and sat down in the waiting area. Throughout the haircut Diego was on his phone a lot. Talking on the phone while cutting my hair and whatever else he was doing. I didn't think much of it and moved on. After the haircut I looked in the mirror, told him it was all good but that's where I messed up. I paid and left. That night I was looking in the mirror and realized that the side tapers weren't even at all. And a couple days later I realized the back of my head has a literal line across it where it was horribly blended. A couple days l texted Diego about the haircut and wanted a refund. He denied giving me my refund multiple times and insisted that I come back and he fixes the haircut. At that time I really didn't want him touching my hair anymore and just wanted the refund. He kept not wanting to give me my refund. I went on Yelp and wrote a similar review to this one and he saw it. He told me that he would give me my refund if I took down the review so I did. I took the review down and he said he "gave me the refund" I've been waiting a week and a half for the refund and haven't received anything and am now getting no response from him. If anyone is thinking of going to elevate i would recommend someone other than Diego to cut your hair. Update: Diego contacted me saying he was gonna Venmo me my refund and hasn't responded in 2 days Update: I haven't heard from Diego in about a week now. I still haven't received a refund in any form and he's not responding to my texts. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING TO ELEVATE. IF YOURE GOING TO GO THERE CHOOSE A DIFFERENT BARBER OTHER THAN DIEGO. I had an appointment and my barber Cesar didn't show up. He texted me that he wouldnt be able to make it as i arrived in San Mateo, 20 min drive down and 30 min drive back. Completely unprofessional, did not seem like he cared while speaking with him on the phone, half assed apology, spoke to me as if he was doing me a favor.
