Stopped by while driving from Fl to Seattle and thought it was just delightful. There isn't very much in SD and when we finally seen places to eat we decided to eat here. We stopped in around noon on Sunday. We were left standing for almost 15 minutes. My mother is frail and elderly but she was not offered a seat while we waited. When seated, we ordered a hamburger and a cheeseburger. After a very long, wait, we were delivered two omelettes. I asked the server to check and make sure our food had been ordered. We walked in literally 3 minutes before they were closing, but the owner was gracious enough to help a starving tourist out. lol. I'll start off to say the service was spectacular here. We felt very welcomed and the girls working were friendly and quick. The space is old fashioned and has that classic diner feel inclusive of the tchotchkes and pie fridge in the corner. Very clean. I was hoping for something fresh and somewhat healthy after so many deep fried foods along our road trip journey so I opted for the crispy chicken salad. The chicken was very good as was the honey mustard dressing, but the salad left a lot to be desired in the rest of its makeup. A few more fresh veggies or some real lettuce or spinach would go a long way. My 6 year old loved his kids cheese pizza. And my husband really enjoyed his Indian taco which was a classic iceberg/olive/tomato salad served on top a thick, grilled slice of naan-type bread. Food was awful and expensive - ordered chicken drummies after showing up for wings that were advertised in the window. was told there was no wings so stuck with the drummies. they came out cold and there were only 4 on my plate and the baked potato fries were also cold. This was a terible experience and will never eat again and we are local to chamberlain. I see why this place is for sale - the quality has went down the drain since it was the anchor. read more

Always great food. There's a good selection and decent prices. Best bang for your buck and the food doesn't suck. My favorite part is the waitress always knows what we get every time, down to the requested condiment. She's awesome. Mexican skillet with a mimosa is my jam. The cook never messes it up. I had the Reuben , dressing was not thousand Island. Not sure what it was. The fries, pickle and ice tea were good. The burgers the next table was having looked awesome and so did the breakfasts. Fast and friendly service with a smile! The steaks and burgers were quite good as well as the popcorn shrimp. My daughters liked the pie too! I would have given another star but the endless salad bar left much to be desired. We stopped in Chamberlain for lunch on our cross-country drive and decided on Anchor Grille based on Yelp reviews. Husband got the special of the day, which was meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and beans. They didn't specify (and I had assumed GREEN beans), but they were actually baked beans. I didn't try them, but the husband told me, unprompted, that the beans were amazing. The mashed potatoes were instant, but that is to be expected. The meatloaf certainly looked incredible, but I didn't try it. My husband made a point of eating every morsel of the meatloaf and beans, so that should tell you something. I got the garden burger, which is actually served patty melt style: grilled onions, cheese, mushrooms (bonus!), on rye. It was DELIGHTFUL. I say this because I am a melt addict and have been avoiding eating them for years in an attempt to eat healthy, but darn it if I didn't allow myself one today, and I savored every bite. My only complaint is that the salad bar, where I would have liked to eat from, was pretty sad. On top of that, my only side options for my main were all fried things, unless I wanted to pay extra for cottage cheese as a side, which is not really "better," in my opinion. This lack of decent healthy options cost them a star for me. However, if you really don't care about the amount of fried food you eat on the daily, this place is great! Oh, and another bonus was the presence of Stevia in the Raw, which is the best of the stevia sweeteners and certainly better than Sweet N Low or Splenda, which I fully expected a place like this to stock. read more

Waitress was very friendly as was the lady we learned to be the owner. My friend had a burger while I had the steak fajita sandwich. He said the burger was good. My sandwich was very good. Cubes of tender marinated steak with melted cheese, grilled onions and peppers. My expectations were that of low overcooked flank steak. I was pleasantly surprised. I will be back. read more

The Hungry Hunter-8 oz. Chicken fried steak, hashbrowns, two eggs, toast with our homemade sausage gravy over top. I would visit it again in the future. Well 1 star is probably still pretty generous, but there it is. I'll start by saying the server was somewhat clueless. She offered the specials of broiled steak or shrimp scampi. I asked what type of steak and was told "it's broiled" when I asked know specifically is it sirloin or new York she shrugged and said "it just says broiled." So That was helpful. She took our orders for the new York steaks (which says in the menu comes with a salad bar), she said nothing so a short time later I asked, did our dinner come with the salad bat, she replied "uh, I think so, yeah I don't think is extra". We went to the "salad bar" where that only vegetable besides lettuce was tomato. The ranch was good though. When our steaks came, the potato that we asked for everything, had nothing. The steaks themselves were 80% fat and gristle and basically unedible. It was absolutely disgusting, I'd never come here again. Do yourself a favor and go to McDonalds. Kudos to these folks for staying open for us as we arrived just at closing time, since we thought they were open until 10 (9 PM during "winter" like all the other restaurants in this area.) the kitchen was still preparing a to-go order, so we sat in the back bar area which stayed open a bit later. I grew up on fresh Walleyed Pike and this fish was definitely breaded and frozen. The breading was so awful that my husband spit it out ( a thing he would never do)! Do not waste your time. This time I had the Cowboy Burger, which is a bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg on top. It was pretty good. Decided to try this place out after a day of work. The waitress was friendly and accommodating. I ordered chicken wings and a quesadilla. The wings were moist and flavorful.
