I was in Pierre for work and I wanted to grab something to eat before I had to drive to Sioux Falls. I went around 530P on a Wednesday so less than half the tables were full. I'm not normally a fan of Prime Rib but it seemed like it was their specialty so I gave it a shot. I got a house salad with raspberry vinaigrette and Buffalo chips as my sides. The salad came out as a bowl of lettuce with dressing. They bring a caddy with shaved carrots, chopped red onion, chopped cabbage and shredded cheddar cheese. It hadn't seen that in a while. The prime rib was cooked perfectly. It is served on a plate by itself in a pool of au jus. The Buffalo chips are their version of seasoned fries. They have a little spice but it's not strong at all. I think al dinners also come with homemade Texas toast. The staff was very friendly and they recommended the best route to Sioux Falls to avoid traffic. I don't make it to Pierre often but I will definitely come back the next time I'm in town. read more

Let me paint a picture for you: I took my family out for a nice dinner, ordered a steak for my son medium rare, just how he likes it. What we got looked like it had been cooked in the fiery pits of Mordor. It was so overdone, I thought they were pranking us with a piece of roof shingle. No big deal I sent it back politely. You know, like a normal person who doesn't enjoy chewing on boot leather. Fast forward through our entire meal. We're done. Plates cleared. Dessert menus offered. And guess what never showed up? That's right: The mythical replacement steak. At this point, I'm convinced it either never existed or it went to college and started a new life in another state. So I tell the server, "Hey, since we never got the steak, just take it off the bill, cool?" Apparently not cool. Because out stomps the manager like she's auditioning for an episode of Cops: Steakhouse Edition, threatening to call the actual police if I didn't pay for the steak we never received. I don't know what's more disturbing the fact that someone thinks this is a reasonable business practice or that they're willing to waste 911's time over a piece of imaginary meat. Anyway, I paid. Because I didn't want to get arrested over a phantom filet mignon. But you can bet your gristle I'll never be back. If you enjoy overcooked meat, undercooked service, and the thrill of being criminalized for asking not to pay for food you never got, this is the place for you. read more

Having been in Pierre for 4 nights pheasant hunting we were looking for some better places to eat. With some places closed due to Covid our options were more limited than usual. We did a quick search and found Cattleman's Club and I am glad we did. It will certainly become a regular place for us each year. We had a group of 10 guys, and we were hungry! We did not have to wait very long on a Tuesday night, but the parking lot was full. The appetizers we ordered were the fried mushroom, fried avocado slices, fried pickles and the Cowboy bites. All of them were really good. The Cowboy bites were labeled as "hot" but they were not at all, at least to me. Several order the prime rib, which was huge and very tasty, as were the ribeye steaks. I ordered "Ron's Pile" and it was fantastic. The picture doesn't show the actual size and height of the food on this plate. All of us were completely stuffed when we left there. This place has an interesting story which you can read about while waiting for your food. The staff took excellent care of us and they were very friendly. This will be an annual stop for us at least once, if not twice while we are in town. read more

The four of us split a 20 oz. prime, the 24 oz. bone-in ribeye, a few extra sides, and a fried dill pickle chips app. The pickle chips were yummy, but note they have a bit of spice to them. Cattleman's serves a *great* steak. It is almost always busy there, but is not a 'white tablecloth' steakhouse. It's a casual place-- sawdust on the floor, busy wait-staff. There can be a wait; we had a large group as well as reservation, so were seated after having a round of drinks at the bar. I had a bone-in ribeye and it was much better than a steak costing twice the price at some well-known chain steakhouses seen in bigger cities. We had never been here, and from Yelp reviews we decided to give it a try. We ere promptly greeted at the door, she asked if there was two of us we said no for the other two were behind us. She said OK. The next gentleman walked up and said how many we at the same time as the hostess, Status to with the other to close behind. He then stated, "well I hope so" to which I replied "me too". Honestly that comment kept me from giving them 5 stars as I did not think that was professional. There were many empty tables and no one waiting to be seated. That being said, our waitress was awesome, took our appetizer order of fried avocado which was excellent, and my New York State was top notch! My wife's prime rib was OK, giving it roughly 3 out of five, my steak was five out of five. The sides were very good as were the drinks. Traveling through a few midwestern states for vacation( we are from LA, Calif) we stopped to have dinner on our last night here in SD. The staff is really nice. They have a great selection of local beers. A fav was Wasatch Apricot Hefeweizen. I had the tomato bisque soup. Soooo delicious! We ate top sirloin steaks and they were awesome! Very tender. We also had the beer sampler before dinner. We met a local Kevin who knew the family and we had a very pleasant conversation I definitely recommend this place. Cattleman's is a staple in the Pierre community. If you want a seat you better arrive early because there's already a line waiting at the door. It's the epitome of a western steak joint, busting at the seams with cowboys, ranchers, and saw dust. They have a great assortment of beer and spirits. The atmosphere is noisy, so it's not a place to eat if your looking for a lengthy chatter! In terms of food it can't be beat, my wife swears it's the best burger she has ever had! Personally I am partial to the Prime rib. Make sure you get a side of horseradish, it's the real deal and it's exceptional. I also always get mushrooms and onions, and it really elevates the prime rib. In addition, with the prime rib you get two side. The salads are good, and the bake potato's never disappoint. I'm not sure there's a meal here you can go wrong with. I always leave satisfied and with a heavy container of leftovers. read more

Expect a little wait to be seated because this is a local Mecca and it's worth the wait. Our waitress was on her toes and provided exceptional service along with a personal touch to make this one of our favorite stops in Pierre. Instead of keeping with our planned route, we ventured up to Pierre in hopes of finding just that. We found the Cattleman's Club on yelp and decided that was our destination. Everything we had was amazing and just what we were looking for. I don't remember the last time I had such a great steak. The boyfriend got an enormous cut of steak, and my smaller portion was excellent. This was definitely one of the highlights of our road trip! First time in Pierre, so I looked for somewhere to eat and the Cattleman's Club sounded perfect. Drove out there and was seated by owner Cindy at the bar and received a Shiner Bock quickly. Ordered the ribeye with sautéed mushrooms and onions, which was excellent. Very tender and tasty, would definitely order again. Cold beer, great steak and service by Brian the bartender as well. By far the best steakhouse I have ever been to. This is a diamond in the rough. I wish I lived closer so I could come back once a month. Prices are amazing, but more importantly; so is the food! It's set on the Missouri River with the perfect view point. The steak I had was cooked perfectly and the chicken and rice soup was the best I've ever had.
