I've been obsessed with the new hair trend called ombre - tonal color from light to dark or dark to light but was unable to find anyone in Vegas to do it. I had met Lourdes & Irma at a trade show last year and kept their card. I called & made an appointment with Irma. I sent her a picture of what I wanted and the color spectrum (shades of pink to burgundy with gold highlights intertwined). IT IS AMAZING! It's 5 days later - and I still cannot stop looking at my hair. Not only did she do the ombre, she blended it so there is a 'natural' transition between the colors. The ombre look (see photos) can be used with most any color combo. I chose pink to burgundy but I think for fall and winter I might do orange to brown. Irma was extremely professional and patient with me. She kept me involved thought each step of the process & Kept me laughing the whole time. Once I returned to Vegas, I've had at least 8 people ask me where I got it done & when I told them, they all said it would be worth the drive. I'm going back for a touch up in September and will be scheduling a mani/pedi with Lourdes while I'm there. I cannot say enough about how much I love my hair. Another thing I love about this shop is that it is locally owned. Shop Local keeps money in the community. They are flexible with their hours and try to accommodate their client's schedules when possible. (in early or stay later) Thank you, Irma! You Rock!! Oh yes and their shop is fat chick friendly! I had a pedicure with Griselda and was really happy with it. Everyone was really accommodating, which I appreciated. When I first showed up it smelled really strongly of chemicals, so the staff opened up the front door to let air circulate more, which helped a lot. I warned Griselda that my feet are super sensitive, so she was extra gentle, and I got to enjoy a chair massage that felt amazing. My french tips turned out perfectly, and I left feeling relaxed. Lies. Although Irma did try to "correct" her mistake, she still left it an orange ugly color & she should have never made a client leave the salon that way. I had let her know how terrible I had felt & she replied with "It's just hair, it'll grow back." My hair was SEVERELY damaged. I cannot comb it without it breaking, it's so bleached it cannot retain color & I did have scabs from the bleaching process. That is not okay. She kept yanking at my hair the whole time too that I was on the verge of tears. A salon experience should be a relaxing one & I had the most stressful time. read more

Irma is the best. I went on Wednesday to get my hair done. I was on the fence on whether I should change my hair to strawberry blonde. I decided to go for it. Long story short my hair turned a bit too red and dark. Irma had me come back and put my blonde highlights back in at no charge. She said she already charged me the day before and wanted me happy. I brought in a couple pictures of what I liked, and she asked my thoughts on them to get a general idea of what I wanted. she was honest in her opinions and not afraid to hold back, which I appreciate especially when it concerns my hair! she also supplied me with styling tips and hair product because she wasn't sure if i would be able to find what i needed on hand here in Merced. She even asked that i contact her if i felt like the the haircut needed adjustment or if i had any questions. I decided to give this place a try since it got great reviews and I was due for a haircut and mani/pedi. However, as soon as I opened the door to walk in, the chemical fumes hit me in the face like a ton of bricks. All of a sudden I couldn't breath. I felt like I was going to pass out. I took a quick look around. There were men, women and some children there but no sign of a back door to open for ventilation. And worse yet, they kept their one and only front door closed! What were they thinking exterminating their clients like that! I know to expect the smell of chemicals in the air as the chemicals do tend to linger but this was a bit much. I couldn't believe the people inside there were able to tolerate it. This has got be serious health issue for the employees there. Needless to say, I walked right back out without giving them the opportunity for service. I'm sure they do a wonderful job but if you're sensitive to smells you better head elsewhere. Also, I like to feel pampered and this salon does not offer that feel. It's family oriented which is not a bad thing if that's what you need. It's just not what I look for when getting all dolled up. Main street girlz best hair salon In town !!!!! Use to go to retro lux but switched 3 years ago wasn't happy with last technicians service , never left happy. Since going to Main Street Girlz I have never been happier, I have long hair and it's hard to find someone you can trust with your hair. I trust Irma Issacs she is my favorite hair dresser of all time . I use to have to spend all day at a salon to get what I wanted achieved, and I Don't have all day to spend to get my hair done. I go see Irma and she always makes me look amazing in a few hours, that is color , cut shampoo, conditioner and styled. She is very professional on time and courteous. She always makes time for me. She never double books which is definitely a plus because I have had stylists in the past that had done that to me. Double booked meaning working on me and sneaking another customer in between, like putting color on me and while waiting for me to process , cutting another person or coloring another person in between. She is very reasonable with prices but I would pay extra just not to be double booked. All of the staff at Main Street Girlz is amazing Lourdes, Rosalee , Kat are also just as amazing as Irma but I am partial to Irma. Would definitely recommend the salon to everyone. read more
