Never again! Over a month prior to my wedding, I contacted the bakery and asked for a birthday and wedding cake to be picked up at noon. I was coming from out of town so the arrangements and payment were made via phone. When I arrived to pick up the cakes at 1 (an hour late) she repeatedly kept asking if I had a receipt and I repeatedly kept telling her it was over the phone so I did not. Naturally I began to panic thinking she didn't have my order. She did nothing to asuade this until I flat out asked "Do you have them or not?". Finally she checked her documents and found the payment. She then took an extra payment from me (I was told prior this would happen so no big deal) but afterwards was told the cakes weren't ready and she would deliver them later. The ceremony was set to start in an hour. Not to mention we drove 1/2hr there on the day of our wedding just to be told our trip was pointless. No call or text telling us the cakes would be late. The cakes arrived during our ceremony so I was unable to see them prior to our guests. She had added flowers with pink trim and yellow daisies on the wedding cake. The flowers were suppose to be white. We ended up having to rip them off and use a centerpiece to fix it. The birthday cake was clearly the one she had still been working on and never finished. It was missing the entire topper I had asked for and chocolate chips were sprinkled on top instead like a last minute "gotta fill the space somehow" thought. After all this... Ordered a carrot sheet cake and a cheesecake for my son's baby shower 3 days ago. Wanted to show the actual quality of cheesecake we received. I thought they had messed up and gave us a chocolate cheesecake but in fact this is our order-- a bit burnt. Very disappointed as they said they are all like that and no I couldn't switch out for a less "overcooked " one. blueberries with stems--i hope washed first before they were thrown on. Why do we have to put a star in order to post. I wish I read the reviews first before I ordered from this place. Instead, this place was recommended by mom since I am from out of town. I called in to order a cake and cupcakes for my daughters baby shower. I ordered a vanilla/strawberry cake, one dozen vanilla/raspberry filling cupcakes and one dozen chocolate/mocha filling cupcakes. When I came to pick up the items, they told me it would be another 10-15 mins. No big deal. The big deal was that they knew this cake was for a baby shower so the design was mediocre at best. The cupcakes looked like I could have made them myself. Some of the cupcakes had decorative pearls on them (about four out of 24). By the time I got home, the first layer of the cake started to slide off the bottom layer. The cake was secure during transportation from the bakery to the destination. When I say the cake's design was mediocre at best, it was designed as if the lady who frosted it either 1) really hated her job and did not care about her presentation or 2) she didn't know what she's doing. To top it off, she had the nerve to tell me "I googled the name and that's not how you spell it". If she had any professionalism, which I highly doubt, she could have said "I just wanted to confirm the spelling of the name" but she came at me as if I didn't know how to spell my grand child's name. When I got home, my family had to fix the cake and add the designs. Luckily they had cake decorating things to make it presentable. When we cut into the cake, it was pretty much just that, just cake with a joke of a thin red line of filling. And the cupcakes had NO FILLINGS in neither the vanilla or chocolate which I paid extra for. This bakery displays on their website only their "best cakes". Putting decorations on a cake goes without saying. I should've ordered my cake from La Plaza bakery because, not only are their cakes great, but their presentations are not a let down. Luz made my wedding cake for my August 2024 wedding and it was absolutely beautiful! We asked for a vanilla cake with fresh strawberries and white frosting. Luz decorated the cake exactly how I had asked - the cake was beautiful and tasted wonderful. Everyone was raving how delicious the cake tasted! Additionally, Luz catered our post-wedding brunch the next month for about 30 people in Salinas. The food was wonderful and we even had leftovers after people going for second helpings. It was so easy working with Luz and her team - they brought everything over in the morning and picked it up at the end of the day. They supplied us with coffee, hot water, utensils, plates, etc. It made the morning following the wedding so easy on everyone. My mom worked closely with Luz ordering the cake and catering, and my mom said Luz was a joy to work with. They were able to provide the best deal for what we were looking for. Before making our decision, my husband and I went to their restaurant several times and had their food, drinks and desserts. We were very impressed with their food and enjoyed talking to Luz and her husband, so of course we contracted them for our wedding. Communicating with Luz during the process was seamless. I was able to share my vision through a Pinterest board and emails. It saved me so much time to have them do the cake, desserts, food, drinks, bouquet and centerpieces. At the time, my husband and I were working long hours and planning a wedding, so communicating with just one person helped us so much! On the day of the wedding they did not disappoint! For what we payed, I was very impressed with their promptness, quality of food, centerpieces, bouquet, bartender and staff provided for the day. In my culture, usually family members help with setting up, cleaning and serving guests. Because Main Street Bakery included their staff, my family was able to enjoy themselves and not worry about helping out. This place is more known for their cakes which are very spectacular! They have a lot of talent. But don't forget about them when you need a quick meal. Our usual lunch spot was closed today even though they advertise that they're open until three so we were scrambling to find somewhere to get a quick to go meal. I had tried this once before. I had a BLT and asked for no mayo and they put mayo on it. No big deal but it wasn't a very memorable meal. This is why you should always give the place a second chance. To be fair, a BLT is just a BLT. They have good food at an affordable price with friendly service and a bakery to add dessert! We went with the classic burger and Chile Rileno. I recently visited this bakery for a graduation cake I was specific and clear of what I wanted. Not to mention the cake I order was super simple a white butter cream cake with a gold drip on top. When I saw the cake I was shock and disgusted of how bad it looked. I was so embarrassed to put this cake on my dessert table I was truly embarrassed for anyone to see my cake it looked like a five year old did it. ZERO STARS if I can give it that! DON'T ORDER HERE! I came across this place cuz I was looking for bakeries to order cake pops and apparently this one is the only one in town who does it. I was surprised safeway, nobhill or even Whole Foods doesn't do them. It's 3 days prior to me needing them for my TK classroom bday. I called and she said that's enough time. I placed a cake order for my daughters 21st Birthday. I spoke to Luz on a Wednesday & left deposit, with agreement I would send pic of cake design wanted via email since I had viewed some items online of cakes. Luz offered me her business card & I told her no worries I'd get the email online. The following day I sent a pic of cake via email & once again spoke verbally to Liz, she indicated that she would be able to design the cake. I told her that I was a bit picky & I asked again if she was able to design cake & she stated "Yes". When I got to the bakery the following Monday, the girl at the register said Luz had indicated I had a balance, I knew I did. I paid and the girl handed me the cake. I stated are you going to show me what cake looks like? She opened the Top flap of box and the cake was to my surprise not what I had asked for. The flower was upright opposed to laying sideways, the fondant did not look smooth on top. There was no gold ring design around the cake nor an attempt to put gold leaves on the cake. I stated to the girl, the cake looked off and I was unhappy. She stated Luz was coming to the store shortly and I could share with her my thoughts. When Luz arrived she looked rushed & agitated, I'm certain someone told her about her unhappy customer, me. I started sharing with her the flaws of cake, she stated it's like someone trying to copy Michael Angelos work. Luz's tone was snotty, arrogant and Unprofessional. I told her i understood she wasn't Michael Angelo but she should have shared cake would not look the way I wished, she stated her website has disclaimer. I stated she should have told me verbally she couldn't copy near what the pic showed since I had spoken to her Twice. She proceeded to open her register and pulled a $100 bill. I actually paid $125. I said if you want to go that route it's rude, I had my daughters guests arriving for the party and without a cake, what was I to do. The cake looked a bit ok with the gold leaves around the plain pink gaudy flower, I got a bit happy and felt somewhat satisfied but not. I left the store knowing the cake was not what I wanted, again remember the girl including Luz never showed me the full cake, I knew I was probably being a pain so I didn't want to ask for more. When I got home and opened the rest of the box, well, the cake was sliding. I emailed Luz and after 24hrs have yet to hear from her. I know my $125 are meaningless to her, it's not about the money, it's the memory. That cake was the most expensive mess I've ever paid for. Take a look at the pictures, this is what I got. A lobsided cake, a lifeless flower, with yellow instead of gold trim. Also, Luz can post she is not responsible for transportation and what happens to cake, go ahead post your defense you have the right and blame me as you do others who post. Your employees and you lack old fashioned business skills, that is try your best to satisfy customers. My money is meaningless by the stunt you pulled opening your cash drawer and attempting to hand my money back to shut me up. I wonder if you have kids, would you be that selfish and take the money instead of getting your daughter or son a cake? I'm not that type of person, however I am the type of person that will share the negatives so that they don't WASTE their TIME or MONEY. This place really deserves no stars. read more

I was looking for a pastry shop for my client's brother who just graduated. When I called to place the order, I told them to put "Congratulations Sammy" it was noted by the person who took my order. I was happy when they called me in the morning of the delivery day to confirm the name and the message to be on the cake. It was spelled out correctly so, of course, I confirmed that's the correct name. Sadly enough, when I checked to see if the cake was already delivered, my client confirmed that they received the cake but the name on the cake is incorrect. Instead of "Sammy" they placed "Tammy". When I called them back about this they were trying to push the blame back to me but I told them you they said "Sammy" and spelled out Sammy when they called that's why I said that it's correct. I tried to ask for partial refund, they said they can't give it because it on delivery. They want us to send the cake back to their shop to fix it. It wouldn't actually make sense, we had it delivered because no one can pick it up from their shop and now they want someone to bring it in to correct the mistake they made?! I don't think that's right. I don't think I will be ordering again from this shop. :( read more

First of all, id like to say that the cake that LUZ made for my kids was absolutely gorgeous. Working with LUZ was a good experience. She was friendly and she had patience with me especially since I really didn't know what I wanted and that I was a state away during the whole ordering process. So I'm not quite sure if my justification for marking her down a star is legit, so I'll let you decide. I knew I wanted a custom cake and I saw the Dr Seuss cake on their website and I called her and told her I want a cake like that! How much is it? She said $250. I said I want a half froZen and half tmnt cake that is worth $250. I pretty much let her design and decide what was best for the cake. She was going to charge me for the toys on the cake but fortunately I already had the froZen and tmnt set. I think she was going to charge me $25 a toy? Craziness! So I get the cake and my wife and I are absolutely impressed (her review is also on yelp). Here is my problem. If I take away the toys I provided and compared it to the Dr Seuss cake I can not truly say I believe it has the same $250 value. She made custom flakes, put a dab of colors of wind on the frozen side and the turtle side she had some sugar sheets or whatever you call it and put a dab of white on it, and painted the back drop with a little bit of green. I am no cake expert and this is just based on comparing it to the dr Seuss cake but to me, she definitely put way more man hours in the Seuss cake than my cake. Her creativity was surely at work with other cake and it seemed that my cake did not receive the same treatment. The taste of the cake was fab. I loved it. Absolutely horrible. The worst cake service I have ever made!! I normally order from a local bakery in seaside but the are kinda expensive. I decided to try a new place and she had great photos of cakes and amazing reviews! So I figured I would try it out, bad decision. I wish I could give them 10 Stars!!!! My sons 5th Birthday was this past saturday 3/24/18 and we put his party together very last minute. I have heard great things about this bakery and kept getting referred to "Luz the cake lady" She did my sons cake for us in less than 24 hours notice!! Will definitely rate a 0. Defined not like what I asked. The cake drip sucked and wasn't really cake drip. It was candy melts. She charged and extra 30$ to make it. Which was not worth it. When picking up the cake, she said it would be ready after 1pm we went to pick up the cake around 2:20 and it wasn't ready she made us wait 10min and then we went back and it still wasn't ready. since this is a bakery, i would say i cannot rate them on cake orders bc i have not ordered a cake from here. however i did once try a pumpkin empanada from the dollar case where they also keep cake pops and macarons which also had mold on it. the owner saw it and apologized and he gave me my money back immediately. i think they should focus on cake making and not so much the every day stuff because a lot of the kids from salinas high school come here and we definitely don't want these kids getting sick to their stomach on a minor issue that can be avoided. maybe the made to order food will not be an issue because it is not sitting there and made to order but the stuff on the display case sits for a long time so the mold explains that part. read more

Needed a last minute cake and they had it done in about 30 minutes. It was a small round white cake with strawberry filling. The strawberry filling had great flavor not chemical tasting like some other places, it was almost like strawberry jam. Cake was moist and tasted great. I ordered a cake for my daughter's 1st communion, cookies and cake pops. First, the woman who took my order never asked for the flavor of cake for the cake pops. Once I realized the oversight I ended up calling to ask for chocolate cake. Then, I asked for fresh flowers on my cake. I was asked to take the flowers and that I could get the unused flowers back. I took in two bouquets of flowers and got nothing back. She put hardly any flowers on my cake, not sure what she did with $30 of my flowers. The frosting on the cake pops was too heavy/much. This place is great! Beautiful birthday cake for my daughter.I don't have a picture of a slice but it was rainbow on the inside to boot! I buy a bigger cake than I need to have enough for parents and leftovers. This cake tasted so good that people kept wanting seconds until none was left. Wow! That has never happened before.
