RAVE MAIN STREET DESIGNS INC. 2196 First St - Downtown Livermore About 20 years ago, I first discovered Main Street Designs, Inc in downtown Livermore, and I remember being instantly impressed--not just by their beautiful inventory, but by their kindness. Candles, shirts, the cutest belts and shoes you've ever seen--it was all so thoughtfully curated. They even hosted a special event I attended, and I vividly remember someone pouring wine outside. Anyone else remember that? I stopped by again today (I've been in many times over the years and made plenty of purchases), but this visit was especially meaningful. Seeing the third generation involved truly warmed my heart. Sherry and Dennis are absolute Livermore treasures. It's safe to say they may be one of the oldest stores downtown--and certainly one of the most beloved. What made this visit extra special was meeting their granddaughter, Kendell, who was working that day. She is a rare gem. Kendell is a wonderful young person and PHENOMENAL listener. She genuinely cares--something that's hard to find in retail these days. She's truly one of a kind. If you're looking for a cute belt, great shoes, a standout outfit, or the perfect pair of earrings, OR something else, I highly recommend Main Street Designs. Easiest thing to do would be to array the contents of The Wife's closet for a picture. She's bought a fortune of clothes here, although I'll note that some of her favorite designers have been discontinued. The place is packed with lots to look at, including Livermore collectibles. It was a no-brainer to pick up a gift card for The Wife this past holiday. read more

Unfortunately the bad reviews about this place are true. The workers will discriminate you if you're a minority along with rudeness. I was stared at and followed around the store despite not having touched anything. I was given unfriendly looks and not greeted or offered help. When another person came in who I hate to say it, but is white, they were treated completely different. The older lady even followed me out to the front of the door. I'm a big Jellycat collector and wanted to purchase from a small business but will spend my money elsewhere. Do not put up with this kind of treatment. The older lady with short brown hair who works the cash register is seriously so rude. Not to mention I'm pretty sure she is one of the owners. I spent over $50 on ornaments and at check out she doesn't say thank you come again or anything like that. I said thank you and she straight up ignored me and continued on with her day like I wasn't there. I've lived in Livermore for over 20 years and have always had rude experiences here. I would give 0 stars if possible. I have never made a review before, but I created a Yelp account for this as I have never been treated so poorly in a store. My boyfriend and I went into this store today to do some Christmas shopping and were browsing. The entire time we were there, one of the store employees was watching us and following us around the store, not asking us if we needed help or needed anything, just watching us. After reading some of these reviews, it seems we are not the only ones to have experienced this. When we were leaving (we didn't end up buying anything because we didn't find anything we liked), she followed us outside and accused us of stealing. She kept asking us where "the Kendra Scott necklace is", and I was genuinely confused what she was talking about. I had looked at the jewelry and picked it up to see what the price was (I didn't know this is a crime apparently), but I didn't get anything. We told her we didn't know what she was talking about, and that we didn't take anything. She kept asking me what about your pockets, did you stash it in your bag, where is it? etc. At this point she was being fully rude. We even let her check our bags and I showed her my empty pockets. After seeing that we clearly did not take anything, she proceeded to ask me "Where did you stash it in the store?" and that this is a family owned business. Not only did she not apologize, she fully doubled down on accusing us of stealing. After this, I told her we will not be returning. I have never been treated so cruelly in a store, and for context, my boyfriend is tall and has a darker complexion. We felt very profiled, uncomfortable, and disrespected. There were also a lot of other people in the store, who did not look like us, and who had bags as well and they were not treated like this. Do better. read more

I walked into this store and started looking around, I wasn't very impressed by the inventory. Much of the product is way way way overpriced and screams sucker if you make it to the register. I started laughing when I picked up a key chain for over $30. Hey want a $60 stuffed animal... a sucker is born every day. Trust me, I make a great living so money well earned can be well spent but people, let's be real, if you're shopping in this store you're being fooled if you think you're purchasing something of high quality or of value. This is pure idiotic pricing for the stock of items provided. I could have something custom made and sent to my home and have money left over for the prices these people are charging. If I see someone with a Main Street designs bag downtown, I will feel really sorry for them, because they definitely got ripped off big time. read more

Today while shopping to buy a tree topper or a star for "Normann" I got treated like "#JuliaRoberts" from "#PrettyWoman"You all know the scene when Julia Roberts goes shopping in her "lady of the night" outfit. You know, she goes to rodeo drive, to that shop with all the snobby white entitled women. Who then tell her "I do not think you can afford these clothes". This happen to me tonight but by an older white lady. I went in her holiday store looking for a unique tree topper or star . The first thing she told me was " You might not want these because they are "a life investment" and are not "generic" like "Walmart or target" and that I should go there because that's where I can "AFFORD" or go to Michaels or Joan's and make one myself. I honestly looked at this lady hard and she was serious about her rude suggestions. I honestly couldn't believe what I was hearing! I thought It was a joke. But I guess she didn't want to make a big sale that night and i guess she believed I wasn't the right client for her store. I felt so discriminated it! Also to be fair when I saw the tree toppers they looked so handmade... Blown glass and sloppy artwork. I am not say this because she basically kicked my sister and I out of the store for basically not being able to afford her blown artwork. But maybe a bit bitter. But it's true the work wasn't good and it looked like an ornament not a tree topper or a star. Also she kept yelling it was worth "hundreds" I rolled my eyes Her tree toppers were not what I was looking for anyways. Never going back there again haha Thanks Happy Holidays Btw I am not mad. My cousin went in looking for a tree topper a few days ago and the employee automatically said, " You might not want these because they are an investment and not generic like Walmart or Target. You should go there because that is what you can afford or go to Joann's where you can make your own." I would not visit this store, they do not deserve your business. read more

I've come in here a few times on my own and with my SO to look for potential gifts. We're never greeted when we come in here but I've noticed the sales staff engaged in conversations with other shoppers. A lot of the merch comes off as a little basic or has the aesthetic of house wares (wine-related, beach themed, etc) that you can find in other stores. read more

I can't believe I missed reviewing one of my favorite shops!! I always browse here when I am in downtown Livermore...sometimes with good luck, sometimes not. But all my visits are enjoyable!! Today I was after the antique German Christmas ornaments I collect. They had a big selection. I am such a klutz, and one of my favorite babies broke when I put up the tree. I love(d) this place! I would shop there I I would want to find something unique as gifts. I will refuse to shop there now. I purchased over $150 today I was charged for a bag, the bag was the smallest she could give me. She put my four items in and put the most delicate on top wrapped in tissue. When I got home the ornament fell out and now it's broken beyond repair. I called and told her what happened and she said I'd have to purchase one. I'm very disappointed! read more

I love their Christmas store. They were in a bigger location last year now the store is next to the main store. Yay! I love all their ornaments and holiday home decorations. Its such treat to come here and get into the holiday spirit just by looking at their themed trees. I especially love the upside down trees - very cool! This year we bought about 7 different ornaments to add to our second tree. (Yes, we have 2. A fake LED one and we will get a real one) The sales woman there was very nice and really knew the inventory of the store. The one at Stoneridge is also owned by them so they are very similar in stock. read more

Main Street Designs is the only store in Livermore that carries Brighton jewelry and accessories. They also have upscale decorator items like paintings, candle sconces, knick knacks with wine country, tuscan, italian, french country or provincial themes. Prices are high but not as high as other luxury decor stores I've visited in Danville/Blackhawk. I spotted some planter urns that are also in a catalog I get-and they cost a little more at MSD. This put me on alert. Can other merchandise be found cheaper elsewhere? maybe. The staff was friendly but slow and for an upscale shop-they weren't very customer focused. I'm giving 4 stars even though the service was just ok and the prices might be a little bit high. I liked the selection of beautiful stuff, supporting a local business, and that they carry my favorite Brighton stuff. The biggest reason for 4 stars? Their AMAZING Christmas Store!!!This should open up down the street in the next month or two. They will have 30+ trees totally outfitted in different themes. This is also the seasonal home of Harley Santa- the one you can see cruising downtown Livermore in his Santa get-up blasting Christmas Carols. I was very disappointed with my experience in the store, I walked around the store for about five minutes not one of the three sales associates present greeted me. The other three ladies that were in the store as shoppers were greeted and given attention, I think this is the first time in my life where I've had an instance where nationality came into play. I didn't want to leave out that as I was leaving going out the door and say something to me, so unfortunate. Main Street Designs is a beautiful store. They carry a huge selection of gifty art things perfect for any woman on your list. I can always find something unique and special. The only thing I could possibly say negative is that I wish it were bigger so that I could see everything. If I do a second or third walk around I always see new things because there is so much in the space. This is my absolute favorite store! Every room in my home has something from this store in it, especially my kitchen! The owners and staff are so friendly and helpful and I love that they have a wish list so that my kids and husband will never buy me something that I don't want. (although I love just about everything they carry!) I especially love the Christmas store that opens in October, it really gets me in the Christmas spirit! I will never go to this store again. I've been to this store several times with one of my friends and our daughters (aged 11 and 9). We went to the store last night before dinner. As we were walking into the store, my daughter slipped and fell at their entryway. One of the employees at the store saw us in the entryway when it happened, but didn't say anything to us. My daughter was crying, obviously hurt. Still, she never said anything. After a few minutes of making sure she was okay and no injury other than a little bruising seemed apparent, we proceeded into the store. Still, the woman never said anything...not "Is everything okay"...."Is she okay?" Nothing. Strike one. The 4 of us were in the room all the way in the back of the store looking at some really cute snowmen ornaments. The same woman that saw my daughter fall in the front came into the room and said in a very suspicious way "Is everything okay back here?" We got a weird vibe from it, but just said "Yes, we were just looking at these adorable snowmen ornaments!" At this time, I was also texting my husband coordinating what time to meet for dinner. Since I felt like this lady wanted us out of that room, I put the phone into my jacket pocket and continued looking at the snowmen. She then went up to me, stared at me for a second, and said "Uh, did you want to buy that?" I was taken aback for a second! At first I thought she was talking about the snowmen we were looking at. Then she pointed to my jacket......so I reached into my pocket, pulled out my phone and showed it to her and said "What, my phone?" She just looked at me for another second, and walked out. Strike Two. Did that just happen?! She just accused me of trying to steal something, while I was there with a girl friend and 2 little girls?! And when I showed her it was my phone, no apology, nothing?! She continued to watch us (or mainly me I think) the rest of the time we were in the store. After we left the store, the girls started talking about what happened, and we all got the feeling that she still thought I, or any of us, actually did take something. STRIKE THREE!!! I honestly felt like before I left the store she was going to want me to empty my pockets to show her I didn't have anything! I was so highly offended by her. My friend was actually thinking of buying a few items before this happened, but because of this decided not to give them her business. I understand that there are people that steal, and that they have to watch out for their items...but to not even apologize for accusing someone of taking something...this after not even checking to see if a crying girl is okay is just appalling and reflects on the character of this person. I don't know if she is just an employee, or the store owner, or what, but I will never step foot into this store again as a result. Livermore is full of the nicest people....however, one of the few bad seeds is working at this store. read more

This is a very cute gift store right on First Street in a trendy part of downtown. But buyer beware. I received a beautiful Brighton bracelet from this store that was sterling and gold. Loved it, but on first wear the magnet that held the bracelet closed fell out and it could not be worn. So after the terrible disappointment of choosing it for one of my limited pieces to take on a cruise I gave it to my friend who returned it. They told her it would be sent for repair. Four weeks later, I got it back with a receipt In case there were more problems. There were. So I took both bracelet and tag back to Livermore from Walnut Creek on a Sunday. The lady proceeded to tell me that despite proof of purchase, and now proof that the bracelet was defective, she said, "oh, yeah, this happens to the heavy bracelets, but you will have to come back during the week when the owner is here to approve the store credit. NEEDLESS TO SAY....WHO MAKES THEIR CUSTOMERS FEEL THIS FRUSTRATION....Main Street Design does, and the lady was less than apologetic. She clearly did not see anything wrong in my being frustrated. Even a glimmer of feeling empathy might have avoided this post......but when it is clear to me a sales person would rather go back to the conversation she was having with another person who was not purchasing or asking about merchandise rather than feel a little sorry for my trouble I leave VERY SLIGHTED AND FRUSTRATED. This happened on Sunday, July 10 at 12:30 in the afternoon if the owner cares to question the employee. I will have to calm down and go face to face with the Boss next week. I will not be a happy camper then, either. I will definitely question why she does not trust a return of obviously defective merchandise accompanied by a receipt and a history of a repair that clearly did not work well.
