I was working in the area, so we decided to pop in for lunch. All of the random decor throughout was very cool. They have a map for people to pin where they're from; and it's far from empty. I even saw a Japan pin! The service was cooked up and served just like the food: southern home style hospitality. You'll find yourself sitting there looking at all of the pictures of people having a great time at the diner and truly feel like you're sitting in a piece of history. You can feel the warmth and charm of the people who visited before you. I got the angus cheeseburger with sauces on the side and a side of chili. I give the burger a 7.2 / 10 ONLY because I felt it lacked some seasoning in the actual meat. But outside of that, it was a DANG good QUALITY burger. The chili was delicious. It was a bit on the sweeter side of chili, but it was absolutely delicious. I was told the guy who makes it has won chili cook offs with this chili and I can see why! This was a delightful discovery. We were camping nearby, and I found this while hankering for a local breakfast spot. I must say that the charm of this downtown mains street plays a larger than expected role. Rising Sun Indiana takes care to maintain a lovely main street and as you approach this diner, you can look straight down to the river front pavilion welcoming your line of sight. Once inside, you find small town diner loaded with character from the wall decor to the tables and chairs. The service is fast, friendly, and the food is especially delicious, well-seasoned, and with a surprisingly large selection of breads and jellies/jams. They are pet friendly and the second time I came in, there was a couple from Washington hoping to get a selfie with the owner's dog so they must have a bit of a social media buzz going too. I recommend both Rising Sun and it's Main Street Diner if you get a chance to be passing through this area. The Rising Star Casino RV Park is a nice clean place to stay too if you happen to be pulling your house around with you like we do. read more

We stopped by here after the we attended the red wolf rampage at the red wolf sanctuary. This place was packed, I think it's the only place open within that area. There's only one server and a cook/owner/ cashier, I like it that its locally owned and homey. We have to wait forever for our food, but our waitress seemed to be working fast and as efficient as she can while waiting for our food, which was something she has no control. I already forgot what we ordered because we waited at least 45 minutes for our food to be served. When my omelette arrived, it was a little more overdone than I prefer, but I still ate it because I was famished. My husband's sandwich was a disappointment since it comes with 2 slices of ham, an American cheese and coleslaw, it's not what he expected since he's expecting a big stack of ham. Exemplary breakfast with an eclectic and homey feel. The food is farm to table so you know it's fresh. We both opted for the spinach, mushroom, cheese and bacon omelettes with rye toast. They were happy to substitute out the mushrooms or bacon for us, and we were even offered options for homemade Amish butters and jellies for our toast. I opted for the "bear" jelly which I believe was a mix of blueberries, blackberries, and cherries and she got the cherry butter (oh my goodness it was fantastic). We also tried a side of their goetta (had to look it up!) which apparently is the home recipe of their butcher's grandmother. It was delicious and crunchy and almost reminded me of the blood/white breakfast pudding I have had overseas which I quite like. The omelette was stuffed with the promised fillings and cooked to perfection, and the toast was nothing short of scrumptious with the preserves on top. This is the place to go for breakfast, if you want true home style cooking. This isn't the place to go, if you're on some fancy diet. It's a true greasy breakfast, but it's good. I had the biscuits and gravy, which was top notch. The wife had a sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich that was even better. They don't have a state of the art commercial kitchen. They're cooking on the regular stuff you have at home, soothe food does take a minute. They had a legit grandma back there cooking the food up. Well I don't know her family history, so I cant say for a scientific fact that she had kids. But she met the age demographic of being a grandma, maybe a great grandma. Had breakfast there on New Year's Day 2024. Food was awesome and the staff was as friendly as could be.

From the farm straight to the table. Everything is fresh and you can tell by the taste. The steak melted in our mouths. The cheeseburger was absolutely perfect. Hash browns made real time as ordered. Homemade chili made fresh daily and tasted like moms. All of this along with fresh eggs, toast and Amish blackberry butter, and 2 beverages- only $25!!! What a great experience. There's not many restaurant options in Rising Star so when we initially planned on going to probably the only other breakfast spot in town and they were closed - we thankfully stumbled upon the Main Street Diner and I'm so happy we did. Let's start with the owner - he is such a delight and truly is part of the restaurant's charm that he visits with every table to chat and ensure they are enjoying everything. Food was amazing...the kind where you feel like you're at your relatives house getting a home cooked meal. I mean even the little bit of their kitchen I could see, it is a regular stove we'd all have in our homes so it essentially is a homemade meal! They even make their own milkshakes which was a treat as we were leaving. I also snagged a couple of their jars of honey to take home. I love finding local honey out and about - I haven't had a chance to try it yet but I'm positive it will be delicious. Can't wait to return when we are driving back through town. This has definitely turned into a must stop on our route. read more

The street construction didn't deter us. We picked a local place off Yelp, like we always do, and are glad we did. I didn't catch the owners names, but they were very inviting and friendly. Learned they're really a farm to table kinda place and that makes me happy. The food was fantastic. We tried a couple of homemade jams and ended up taking home two jars. Simple basic good food! What a lovely thing to enjoy breakfast outside on this cozy little Main Street. Kathy is always very kind and the locals are friendly. The Amish apple butter is out of this world and we enjoy the speciality omelets and biscuits. Charming, eclectic, sweet and truly a lovely place to start your day. Only suggestion, if possible is how to stop so many smoking non stop while we eat ...maybe have one smoking picnic table to the east (down wind) to allow others to be free of the smoke. 5 Stars- Weekend trip to Madison including Rising Sun. Saturday morning I was starved and stopped here, was served a great breakfast! The lady who waited on me was fantastic, helpful, and even delivered food down the street to, " the table of knowledge". Not sure what that is, but I should be a member, regardless. We had the best thick cut bacon and homemade bread / toast ever! My eggs were just like my mother made 40+ years ago and just perfect! Then the french toast and home made Amish jelly was spectacular! It was so good, we returned on Sunday morning for another dose of wonderful! Great place, good people, and great food! You all better stop there, "fo" sure. read more
