I just wanted to share how absolutely delightful my recent visit was! From the moment I stepped in, the customer service truly shone - everyone was so incredibly friendly and welcoming. It really felt like I was enjoying a wonderful home-cooked meal right in my own kitchen, which is such a comforting and rare experience when dining out. And speaking of deliciousness, the food was simply fantastic! It had that lovely, authentic home-cooked quality that's so hard to come by. But I absolutely *have* to give a special mention to the blue drink; seriously, it was out of this world! Anyone visiting simply *must* try it. The vibe is old school diner, and they seem to be able to resist becoming anything else. Cash only, but has an ATM. Swing by on your way from Cincy to CVG, sit at the bar, chat them up and tip well. Well that was the cool part about this place first of all is that it was 24/7 and the food well it's a greasy spoon so yeah good food. But they are closed now at like 11 pm !!!!! Whaaaaaaat??!!!!!!! This place is a classic staple. I love the hash browns. The staff is funny. They have juke boxes at the table and they hook up to a little thing where the dolls dance along to the music. Especially good after you've been drinking. They used to have 24 hour service but don't anymore. I usually call before I go. read more

Anchor Grill has great breakfast, lunch and dinner options, with prices that you truly cannot beat. The servers were very friendly and attentive-even on a busy Sunday. Not a place to go to for a quick meal, but the food is worth the wait! *note:cash only, but they do have an ATM* One of the things that landed Anchor Grill almost at 3 stars is that they still spoke inside :/ it wasn't too bad, but cigs and eggs aren't a great combo. Sassy, but kind waitstaff, great ambiance, stellar food. What else could you want? I'm very particular about my hashbrowns. Very. A soggy portion of hashbrowns is a meal ruined. These were by far the best hashbrowns I've been served in this city. They understood the assignment and knocked it out of the park. Not only that, but they put a Cincinnati amount of cheese on them. I had the pork tenderloin with brown gravy and it was great. My husband had the grilled pork chop and he loved his as well. We will definitely be back. We were "fortunate" enough to encounter traffic jam on our journey from Louisville, Kentucky, to Niagara Falls, New York and exited the freeway in search of something to eat. This local diner had good quality food at reasonable prices, and especially the macaroni salad which was tangy and flavorful was a pleasant surprise. The chicken salad was fresh and the prices were reasonable. The waitress was kind and efficient. The only drawback is in the ambience category: apparently smoking in restaurants is OK in Kentucky and there were a number of patrons that couldn't eat lunch without smoking at the same time which for a non-smoker like me was somewhat unpleasant. The ultimate dive in the greater Cincinnati area has got to be the Anchor Grill. This place hasn't changed much since the first time I visited over 40 years ago. Basic diner food, well made, great value, unique experience. Like many mom and pop places of a particular era, the Anchor Grill is cash only and defies local rules about smoking indoors. I don't know if they're grandfathered out of the rule, or they just don't care. In either case, the faint smell of stale smoke did not detract from the experience. The servings are large and made to order. If they're busy you may have to wait for a while, but it is well worth it. I recommend the Anchor Grill as an experience of its own. No pretense at all. By 12:15 our food still hadn't arrived; no explanation, no apology, so we walked out. When we questioned about the order was very rudely criticized by the cook who came from the grill and she was very angry. Was told they had a $200 call in order and they had to do that one first. It's hard not to like Anchor grill. It's as "local greasy spoon" as it gets, but it has a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Sort of if your Mom and a couple of her friends opened a diner, and you stopped in for dinner. The staff are friendly and polite, and the food is surprisingly solid. If I'm in the Midwest, I have to satisfy my breaded, fried pork tenderloin sandwich craving. Theirs is thin but decent, and you can't beat the price. Cash only. Give it a try. I ordered the anchor burger & fries. My companion got the biscuits & gravy. With one soft drink (coke products) the bill was around $16. We went around 5:45, the place was empty besides us and one other customer. We sat at the counter and was waited on quickly. They have lots of booth seating also. The burger was simple, nothing fancy, but delicious! The fries are thick crinkle cut and were perfect! The B&G was on point, lots of sausage. It was decorated in anchors and lighthouses and signs with sassy sayings. It was exactly what you want a greasy spoon, hole in the wall to be. The only negatives: It's a cash only business. Entering this building was like stepping back into the 1950's. I loved it! This was a recommendation from dinner the night before, and it did not disappoint. Service was stellar! The restaurant and restrooms were very clean. Friendly locals were there first thing in the morning. My son and I had biscuits and sausage gravy with a huge order of hash browns. My wife had a huge Mexican omelet. The food was very good,and three huge meals were only 28.00. I was blown away. Hole in the wall doesn't begin to describe this place. I discovered it years ago on a business trip to Cincinnati while I was looking for a breakfast place to stop at on the way back to the airport. I've been half a dozen times now between traveling to look for a place to live in Kentucky, travel from the airport or a day trip up there. The biscuits and gravy are some of the best I've had, besides my grandma and mom's. Sitting at the front counter is great, love watching them cook and listening to the staff. It's seriously a throw back in time, and it's awesome. But as mentioned in many reviews, there is smoking in the restaurant so if you're sensitive to it then this place isn't for you. I wish I had some pictures to share, but when they drop that food off in front of me, I really lose my senses and just need to shovel food in my mouth hole. read more

I really enjoyed going to this grill. It is open 24 hours a day, and you can get breakfast all day, if you'd like. They are only closed Christmas Day, I believe. The building is a cool old building. We sort of regretted not sitting at the counter, but were happy with our table. I had never had Goetta before and I am happy that I tried it. The GLT was delicious. Another diner had the BLT. He said it was well worth it and had a lot of bacon. My husband loved his eggs and Goetta, with toast. The restaurant has a nice, friendly feel. Of course, that must be due to the pleasant waitresses. If you are ever in Covington, this restaurant is worth a visit. But, bring cash, because it is cash only. This is truly a Mom and Pop restaurant. Was shocked when we went in and the were smoking at the bar and at several tables. Smelled like smoke but not to bad. We stopped in for breakfast. Listening to the group of older gentleman talk about family, politics, war, and politics again was very entertaining. Now as for the food. I had the waffles and sausage and they were good. My better have had a breakfast wrap and she said it was good. Bacon was little on the not crisp side. Hash browns were good but a little greasy.
