Named after the street it resides on, this independent bookstore is located in the heart of downtown Summerville. Small yet just the right size to not overwhelm their customers. Main Street Reads has a very welcoming appeal, warm and cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. There front area offers searing for you to sit and enjoy a book for a spell They offer a very wide selection of books and have many books from local authors across the Lowcountry. They host various events throughout the month so be sure to sign up for their email and ask for a membership to earn points for later.

    Snacks for story time

A great little bookstore. I took my nephew to Main Street Reads for story time and we had a blast! On the way home he kept saying "story time!" Snacks and drinks are provided and age appropriate seating. The reader begins and ends with a fun action song. The bookstore has a kids section that has lots of great books. In the kids section a parent can sit and read with their child on a comfy seat. Their are many things throughout the shop geared toward children that they can interact with and look at while the adult shops. I browsed the bookstore before and after story time and saw lots of great books. It would be hard not to find a book to want to buy each time you visit. I'm from Ohio and love to read about the places I visit and this bookstore had many books from local authors and about the state of SC and the local area for kids to adults. I love that this place brings in authors for book signing!! I know they have many activities for all sorts of readers you'll want to check out. The store also sells book plates, blank notebooks, Literary Tea, and many other cool items. I hope you'll visit!

The customer service here is good and the setup is nice and cozy, however, as a visitor who was looking for diverse reads-- I went in looking for books by African American authors and there was a small selection& when I inquired about specific books by African American authors the associates were not knowledgeable on who these authors were. I still purchased books here but left feeling underwhelmed. I hope the associates start reading more diverse reads.

It's Friday story time! But this is of their local shelf.

Wonderful owners and place that serves to promote the community and state. I visited here with my son on Friday for story time. He is 2 1/2 and enjoyed the stories and songs. Books are my friends, so I spent some time in the store afterward. The selection of titles is attuned to classics, bestsellers, and notables of a wide variety. Kids will have fun here as well. There is a nook for them, where they can relax in a comfortable seat or be entertained by a talking parrot. The best part of the store is the local (region and state) offerings, for both children and adults.

Main Street Reads on Main Street in Summerville is a great local book store that has a unique and great selection. I really like the location and atmosphere that they have created here and everything that they have available. Excellent overall experience every time I have been here.

    Book signing with Bill Walsh

I'll be honest, I drove all the way to Summerville from West Ashley to meet Bill Walsh and get a book signed by him. However, even though this little book store is thirty minutes from my house, I can totally see myself bypassing the big name book stores (and dare I say, even Amazon) for a chance to support a local small business who prides themselves on customer service and supporting local authors. The owner was super friendly, and we came in at the start of the school year, so my daughter got a bag of back-to-school treats, which made her day. Their location is small, but their selection is big, and if they don't have what you are looking for, they can order it for you. My parents were looking for an author that is native to Vermont, and when he couldn't be found in the store, the owner ordered his most recent books and will have them on the shelves in no time. Excellent customer service.

Absolutely adorable independent bookstore in the heart of downtown Summerville! They have a wonderful selection of books and dedicated local book and children's book rooms. We received a warm welcome when we arrived and they were especially kind to our child. We will be back for sure!

    Such a cool store

I love book stores and this one is no exception. However, I found extra pizazz and personality in every corner. They had an interesting selection of both fun and serious reads, my sister chose a cookbook that sounds like a hoot!!! My nephew chose a cool book only a 17-year-old would love, and I was enamored by the children's area. Colorful, full of books, and plenty of space for the kiddos to play around. Definitely coming back!
