The Main Street station is both beautiful and awful. The building is historic and appears to have been renovated. It is beautiful and takes you back to a different period. The awful is that there are no services - it is a dead zone. If you arrive early in the morning you are out of luck. I see great potential but it has not yet been made for prime time which is unfortunate.

Main Street Station is host to various venues for organizations around town. I've attended beer festivals, a cocktail festival, and fundraisers, such as Fetch a Cure, at the station. I've also caught trains here, though I live closer to Staples Mill and prefer that station. It's a gorgeous station steeped in history, though sometimes it can get really hot in the glass-enclosed areas even with a/c on. I also prefer the downstairs venue-area bathrooms to the station bathrooms.

What's not to love? Chocolate... Whiskey.... And wine! Great samples, even better vendors and lots and lots of chocolate at every bend!! This is like heaven on earth!! You may want to run, not walk to this festival!

Although the station is beautiful is useless, there is no Amtrak assistance nor caffès is more of a museum community center. While I had a lay over they had rented the place to a wedding even,it was so loud you had to go outside in the balcony. Also they close very early, guards are rude and will not assist you in any other way, they are not Amtrak employees.Be prepared to walk far to get coffee while waiting for you next train connection. As I said beautiful and charming location but Amtrak is non present here except for a Amtrak ticket printout kiosk, don't bother asking the security guards anything they go out of their way to make you feel uncomfortable and that is not a station but their community center and they are not Amtrak employees.

Comfortable seats, but overnight with stops, a challenge.

The "Gateway To Richmond" (Robert Winthrop, Architectural Historian). Commissioned for construction in 1900 by the City and Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) and in November 1901 the first train arrives. It remained a vital transportation and commerce center of Richmond until 1975. The following years '75-'93, the Station endured a six-alarm fire in 1983, a mix of owners with intended uses, and a threat of demolition to clear way, along side I-95, in a failed attempt to build a shopping mall. In 2000, the Station was back in Cities possession from the State of Virginia. Following extensive renovations and ongoing projects the Station officially reopened in 2008 as the the "Cities Reborn Gateway to Richmond." Which, brings me to my experience in 2019. I arrive by an overnight Amtrak from Connecticut in the early morning. Still groggy and needing to find a place catch some additional rest, despite the Grand Hall stopped us in our Tracks (no pun, well, maybe). The magnificent vaulted ceilings, tile motif, with sets of tracks on either side of the long, rebuilt, Train Shed. The eye catching facility renovated to serve once again as Transportation Hub, Civic Center, Offices, Museum, and elegant Banquet Hall. Truly a feast for overtired eyes like ours and if you're a history buff this Grand Old Station is along with the remainder of Richmond is a destination to behold.

I've been a guest twice now to events and I am so impressed. The first was a corporate holiday party with several hundred guests and the second was a wedding of about 75 people. The venue is enormous and can work for both huge crowds and intimate gatherings. Even without much decoration it is grand and beautiful; I absolutely love the exposed brick, the soaring ceilings, and classic design details. The venue is ADA accessible and has ample, inexpensive parking even though it is in the heart of downtown.

Great place to bring friends or family to check out for free and then have a meal at any one of the many area restaurants that are near by. Check out the unique preserved architecture and enjoy the history of Richmond. The city has done a fantastic job in restoration and finding additional use for this space. There is a nice smallish art gallery on the lower level and there are some fantastic views of the city. Plenty of free parking across the street. There is limited Amtrak service here but most of it runs from the Staples Mill Station just North of the City.

Nothing I can say will do this place justice!! Main street station is Beautiful. Its sleek, elegant, sexy, and sophisticated. I had the pleasure of attending a holiday party here and was blown away by the beauty. First of all you completely forget you are in a train station. The beautiful glass windows perfectly frame the cityscape and really allow you to take in and appreciate RVA. This is a perfect venue for an event.

It's pretty? That's all I got. The architecture and art is gorgeous, but this station is basic. No air conditioning, no food/drink options, limited seating, no escalators, no ramps. It's really not conducive for travelling with suitcases. It's convenient to downtown Richmond, but I wouldn't plan to spend much time here. If you get here 15 minutes before your train, that'd be fine.

The interior and exterior of the Main Street Station was beyond words. It is a magnificent structure. Despite being so hot outside, it remained cool inside. Stepped inside the first level with guards manning the desk. Walked in a little further and there was a small art gallery. Took the lift to the next level up and it was an even prettier sight. Hardly anyone there - came on a Friday morning. I didn't do any research before coming to this place. When I came here, I thought what a nice venue for a wedding reception. And checked the website, it actually can be booked for events and weddings. That's how pretty it is inside. There are several lounges there to sit and relax in. It loses one start because of location. In no fault of it's own, the toll bridge just ruins the sight. I almost didn't feel safe outside when taking a photo outside. Parked in public parking with fee payable through the passport app.

I went here because I wanted to see the building connected to the clock tower you can't help but see when driving I-95 North in Richmond. Very convenient parking area located under I-95 and between the train bridges (feels a little odd to know a major interstate is above you.) Lovely architecture. You can walk around the area at your leisure - I understand not too many trains actually stop there. Can't say anything about how useful it is as a train station, I'll let the local weigh in on that.

Gorgeous outside of Main Street Station!

Oh Main Street Station, how I adore thee. Too bad I live closer to the Staples Mill Road station. If I didn't, I'd be all up in Main Street Station every time I had to catch a train. It is sexy in the most historic way. I see why this is a hot spot for RVA weddings and other events. It truly is the perfect backdrop for a magical evening. It has a touch of class that takes it over the top! I can definitely see myself having a gorgeous wedding here fit for a Duchess (Move over Kate!) someday. So, one thing I did notice is that I didn't see anywhere to purchase food or drinks. Someone did have food delivered to the station while I was there (that's one way to do it!). That's literally the only improvement that I can think of. Parking is super easy with it being right across the street, it's right off the highway so it's very easy to get to. Not to mention this place is a staple in the RVA Skyline so just being in there makes you feel über Richmond-y. Yep, Main Street Station gets the Lauri stamp of approval!

I love the Richmond Main St train station. It's a wonderful mix of historic and modern. Amtrak is almost always on time. I look forward to seeing it progress and the continuous renovations.

The trains curve around Main Street Station on their way north.

Shame on this company for being able to get away with this in shame on no one pursuing making this an ethical transaction that has completely become a shame of greed at its finest from every aspect of this company. My brother and I rode the Megabus (in June 2018) from Dallas, TX all the way to Richmond, VA, with…read morea bus changes in Memphis, TN and Atlanta, GA. I'm going to share the same review with those Megabus Yelp business pages. Our trip took around 36 hours. First, the bad: WiFi did not work on ANY of the three buses we rode. It's time consuming. Our journey was 36 hours end to end. Cleanliness of bathroom deteriorates rapidly as the journey wears on. I considered it "For emergency use only." There is no running water. There might have been hand sanitizer. Now the good. Inexpensive. Nothing beat it. Not Greyhound. Not Amtrak. If you have more time than money, or just want an adventure, Megabus is OK. Buses were clean. Buses have a bathroom, but it's nothing more than a chemical toilet. It was an adventure. 110 volt A/C power outlets did work on all buses. Oh, and since it was summer, there were no airline deals either. The bus stops about every 2 hours for a break. It generally stopped at a truck stop, where you could use a restroom with running water, and get something to eat. Our bus change in Memphis was long. It gave us enough time to take an Uber to Beale St. It was also at night. Neighborhood was kinda sketchy, but there was indoor waiting area with vending machines and bathrooms. There's a gas station next door that serves hot food. Our bus change in Atlanta was shorter, but it was long enough to search out some breakfast within walking distance. It was morning for this stop. Neighborhood was OK. There was no indoor waiting area and I think there were restrooms if you went in the MARTA station (below). We arrived in Richmond at night and walked to our hotel. I did not seeing any waiting area, though it is close to the (Amtrak) train station, in the Main Street Station, so there might be something there. There are waiting rooms, but I don't know the hours. https://www.yelp.com/biz/main-street-station-richmond About the bus: It's a double-decker bus. If you are prone to motion sickness, there is less sway on the bottom, but try to get toward the front, as the bathroom is in the back. Upper seats have a better view, and the roof is transparent. During the day it was quite enjoyable. There are reserved seats, and if they are available, will cost you a little extra. We only had reserved seats on one bus. Not having a reservation was not a problem. There are some sections, up and down, where the seats face each other (with a small table in the middle). So if you are a party of 3 or 4, it would be good to reserve these seats. You might want to hedge your bet, and reserve seats opposite of each other. This way you'll play footsies with someone you know, not a stranger. It seems obvious now, but the reserved seats are the ones with BIG numbers on them. Once the bus is loaded, it seems OK to move into those seats, but you don't know if they are going to be reserved for the next leg of your journey. The bus does drop off and pick up along the way, though not necessarily at all stops. Some stops are just breaks to stretch your legs, and last 10 to 20 minutes. You might want to bring an extension cord, or have a long charging cable. Sometimes the power is overhead. Brings snacks and drinks, but not alcohol, as it's not allowed. We asked a couple drivers what would happen if you were caught. The answer varied a bit, but it seems likely you will be kicked off the bus. Where you are asked to leave seems to depend on your attitude. If you need anything during the trip, bring it with you when you go to your seat. You can't access your checked bags en route. Consider bringing ear buds or plugs, and eye shades. My conclusion: It was just too many hours. Man this trip dragged on. I would consider it for shorter trips, in fact I'd like to see more of Memphis. And them maybe take a riverboat to New Orleans, and Megabus back to DFW. Bottom line: Good adventure. No problems. No regrets. I thought it was just the driver that was driving me to DC. Then I realized the one driving me from DC to Raleigh is just as rude. I don't understand how they can treat people with such low regards to them daily. It is very sad.

So before scheduling your trip with Greyhound please listen to what I have to tell you…read more I scheduled my trip around the time to be at the Daytona speedway for the Daytona 500. Those that live in Florida understands that it rains and this weekend was no different. With that being said I had to make an adjust or attempt to atleast to my schedule. I initially asked to move the ride to earlier that evening. The fee was 60 bucks. Then I thought through some things and made the decision to change it back to my original scheduling and charged me a total of 200. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they could care less. All they say is I'm sorry sir and give no explanation as to why they do the things they do. I just unloaded on them about how filthy the buses and bus stations were, how analog the bus scheduling system is. I'm sure as long as people are willing to pay for this shitty transportation service they will continue to stay around. Another thing I couldn't stand are the long ass routes they take you. For instance I need to go fromDaytona Beach to Richmond. They took me from Savannah to Columbia to Charlotte. There was a transfer and one of the other buses were going to Raleigh. I wanted to try to talk the driver to see if I could get on that bus, but I know for a fact I would've been worse than pulling teeth. Also it's like 50 first dates with the drivers. So when they've seen you at the transfer and scan your ticket to get on the bus, and you go to stow your bag, you get back in line they've forgotten what you look like when they seen you two minutes ago so they have to scan your ticket again wasting everyone's time. Ugh!!! Overall I hope more people continue to give this company honest reviews to improve this company and also I hope this company markets itself as to not attract garbage clientele which is probably the reason for operating this way!!!
