Before we left, she provided all of Mia's records and even sent us home with a bag of food. On the drive home, Mia vomited, but we assumed it was motion sickness from the long car ride. Over the next several hours, she continued vomiting, developed diarrhea, and stopped eating, drinking, and playing. Concerned, we called the emergency veterinarian. Based on her symptoms, they told us Mia likely had parvo, advised us to stop all food and water immediately, and bring her in if her condition got any worse. Before rushing to the emergency clinic, I called Trisha at 6:00 a.m. She listened carefully and suggested that Mia's blood sugar might be low due to her tiny size. Following Trisha's advice, I gave Mia a small amount of syrup. Within minutes, she perked up and began acting more like herself. Trisha's experience and understanding of her puppies made all the difference. Her guidance not only helped us avoid a costly emergency vet visit but, more importantly, helped keep Mia safe. Had we followed the advice to completely restrict food and water for a puppy weighing less than two pounds, the outcome could have been very different. After picking up our kitten, it was evident how terribly ill he was. Would not eat, would not drink, would not use the litterbox. We immediately made an appointment with our vet for which he was severely underweight at 1.5lbs for a 10-week-old kitten. Our vet immediately gave him antibiotics and high caloric canned wet food and also needed fluids under the skin. He needed to be syringe fed which he did not take well at first. We brought him back to the vet as he was still wheezing, sneezing and lethargic. They put him on another antibiotic and nebulized him. We were told that we needed to administer the syringe feedings as well as give him antibiotics twice daily and nebulize twice daily. This Woman Elise Fetcho who calls herself a professional breeder lives in a terrible environment of hoarding with deplorable conditions for Cats and Kittens to be exposed to. The overpowering stench of Cat urine was unlike anything we have ever been exposed to. When we told her of our kitten's terrible health, she did pay our first vet appointment which was $285 range and agreed to pay the remaining vet bill of over $700 to us but asked me if we could allow her to pay $100 per week because she had no money. Funny how she had no money when we paid a total of $3500 for this Kitten. I have sent her Zelle requests for the remainder of the vet bills for which she paid 1 and has ghosted us on the remaining balance. Do not trust anything this person tells you as it is all lies and misrepresentation. She did offer for us to take the kitten back a few times but there was no way we would ever take that poor kitten back to that environment. We are happy to say that this kitten is alive and getting better every day with great supportive care and excellent vet care.

Considering that they got over 6 million dollars from the City of Evanston, I am very unhappy with their poor communications and the fact that they are only open to the public for about 2 hours a day. One of the two cats I adopted turned out to have obstructive airway disease and since they were in charge of my two cats for months, one would have thought that would have been disclosed. The medication cost over $2,000 that first year because what was prescribed was not off patent and the cat was too obese to take prednisolone safely. Why was my cat obese? Ask them. Further when I asked if I could donate the huge cat carriers back to them and some food bowls they gave me (since I already had those items) they refused them as if they have all the money in the world to buy new supplies, other shelters would have jumped at the opportunity, a donation in kind of about $100. I applied to volunteer and heard nothing from them for over 2 months after emailing and messaging them following up on my status, to no avail, until I had to actually go in there to find out what was happening. I could go on but in my opinion this is an organization that is not managed well and they could do much more with the funds that they have been given. I'm pretty sure, imho, that they will ask some pals or cronies to add some high star reviews to try to balance out the negative ones, of which there are quite a few, but all I can do is try to get them to get their act together there by posting this. Finally, as to others here saying that some people there are rude, I completely agree. It is not a pleasant experience. If they try to get more taxpayer funding without improvement of their management, I intend to go down to City Hall to cite my many reservations about this organization. Update on 2/18/25: I stand by my review in spite of the response from EAS: To EAS I respond as follows: Unfortunately the cats were obese from a medical standpoint so you may want to consult with a veterinarian on animal obesity. I note that you did not post the photo of one of them I emailed to you after he had some cat nip the first night I got them, but chose the "skinny" video :) so I posted my photo of one of the big boys I adopted. Further, it is my understanding that my cats were elsewhere in foster care under your auspices until they were put into my care as fosters. If you take no responsibility for their care when at foster locations, that could be problematic, especially for them, since you foster out many animals. As to communications issues: I sent an email Sept 8, 2021 asking about a vet. No response to that. I found a vet myself and did not contact you again until early Dec this year when I put in a volunteer application. No response to that. On Jan 7, I sent a followup email asking the status. No response to that. After that I wrote a msg to your Facebook page. A day or two later someone answered and said she would follow up with the dog volunteer area. I waited approximately a week and still had no answer. I wrote again to see if anyone heard from the dog volunteer group, but received no reply. Growing quite annoyed with the runaround, a few days ago I decided to walk over to EAS and find out what was going on, which I did. I told The person there, also the person who did not answer my email of Sept 8, 2021 that I had emailed and messaged and gotten no reply so decided to walk in. He told me I must be mistaken as EAS has no email address posted on its website and was rather brusque (rude, in my perception in addition to being uninformed) gave me no apology and then insisted I must have emailed a vet with a similar practice name to EAS. He subsequently agreed to follow up, nevertheless. Moreover, with regard to my claim of poor communication, there was a post on your facebook page not long ago telling the public that people have been rude to EAS staff/volunteers when they don't get back to them and how they shouldn't be because everyone is so busy( too busy to hire volunteers who might answer phones, I guess.) If EAS cannot acknowledge the problem, it certainly will not be fixed. Re: funding: So it didn't go into your pocket, you say, but why spend 6 million dollars so you can be open approximately 2 hours a day to the public? I certainly hope the number of adoptions skyrocket going forward , you train people not to be rude (as mentioned here and elsewhere in reviews) and you answer communications because certainly the Evanston taxpayers should see something for their generous funding of your large facility.

Presumably you're there to buy an animal and will be giving them a better enclosure. It's a pet store, not a zoo. Compared to a big chain store it wasn't really that different, except that Kenn has more employees than you'd find in a chain store 5x its size (which says a lot about his priorities). He showed me the only two fancy mice that were available and when I asked if they should be bought together, he was honest. He said "I'm not going to tell you that they're bonded or anything, but mice do like to have company." He was clearly trying to ensure we didn't feel pressured to buy something we didn't want while also being honest about reality. He answered all of my questions about the mice and got me set up with the supplies I'd need without my even asking. He pointed out deals to us and offered us different solutions, immediately noticing that we had a budget. But the store had everything you'd need for a rodent there: toys, treats, enclosures, bedding, and the best recommended food. Two weeks later and the little mice we bought from him are healthy and happy-- and also beautiful. The grey one is really friendly and loves to be held, which is so sweet. The siamese one is a little standoffish but can still be held if you coax her out with a toilet paper tube. I did end up getting a larger 20-gallon tank for them that I found on sale rather than the plastic hamster cage I bought from the store (which-- again-- was kindly suggested by Kenn when it was clear we were worried about expense). Anyway, I really enjoy having these little creatures around. I'm thinking of going back to buy a rat!

I was willing to drive back to the Chicagoland area if we found a great breeder. We did some research and Midwest Ragdolls came up. We contacted DR. Jennifer Creed regarding a seal mitted female, and she replied immediately that she had one for us. She is very reasonably priced. Although, communication wasn't the greatest when we initially requested photos, and other info., but she always sent us what we requested within a few days of asking. I'm going to be very transparent on this review because I wish someone had done this when I was reading reviews. A few things weren't making sense to me as far as age, and pickup of the kitten. I was very hesitant, and unsure if I would actually follow through with picking the kitten up on the date given based off of negative reviews I was reading during my 7 hour drive up to Chicago. I read that her kittens were malnourished, too early to go home, they weren't socialized well, and that she was using her veterinarian status to fool people. After looking at her website again, I noticed all the kittens, and adult cats looked healthy and well cared for. When I decided I was going to move forward and pick my kitten up I did just that. I can not emphasize enough how opposite those negative reviews are. DR. Creed has a beautiful property her kittens are born, and raised on. She was extremely welcoming, pleasant, knowledgeable, and my gorgeous seal mitted baby girl was perfect! She is extremely social, lovable, snuggly, playful, clean, and healthy. After, meeting Dr.Creed, I now know that the slight lack of communication wasn't intentional. She's a full time veterinarian, mom, and on the side breeds Ragdolls for the love she has for them. I bought 3 cats from Jennifer over a few years, a friend bought 1. My friend's cat died of heart…read morefailure before his 3rd birthday and was also vicious. One time I was over there, he attacked me for no reason whatsoever and left 8 puncture wounds on the back of my leg. The first cat I bought (littermate of friend's cat) was also extremely mean and had to be rehomed. Cat number 2 is still going, is healthy and lovable and amazing at 11. She came home from Jennifer's cattery extremely sick though with an obviously swollen and oozing eye, and spent her first few days with me in the ER. At her first vet visit, she weighed less than a pound. Jennifer said she was the only kitten in the litter and my vet said that often happens when the mom is bred too young. Cat 3 died of heart failure at 9. Despite having 3 out of 4 of Jennifer's cats not turn out well and the 4th being sick at pickup, I reached back out to her after my boy died. Her response was short and unfriendly and she offered zero information, wouldn't answer when I asked if she was breeding my dead cat's parents still. Then I contacted American Girlz Ragdolls to see what they were like and the woman who responded was patient, kind, warm, informative and responsive. She also extended her condolences about my cat's death; Jennifer didn't utter a word. Is it that hard to say "sorry your cat died", particularly when I paid you a grand for the cat and was expecting more time with him? Also, when I picked up my second cat (sick one), one of the turtles in Jennifer's tank was obviously dead (yikes). When I picked up the 3rd cat, she wasn't even home and I wasn't welcomed in. Her husband met me at the front door, handed the kitten to me, and said goodbye. When I decide to get a new kitten, we are going to American Girlz. They are far and away superior to what Midwest offers based on my experience, the experience of my friend, and the 4 cats we purchased from Midwest.
