I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this clinic yesterday. I found an abandoned dog and, after reaching out to over 50 shelters who refused to take her, I became her temporary caretaker for 31 hours while I searched for a foster home. During that time, she started bleeding from an unknown source, and since it appeared she had recently given birth, I was extremely concerned. I brought her in as a walk-in, hoping they could help, but was told they don't accept walk-ins and couldn't treat her because she wasn't officially "my dog." I was instructed to take her to an emergency clinic, but since I don't have a car and couldn't use Uber Pet due to the blood, I was told to put flour on the wound and walk her there myself. I am frustrated and upset by the lack of compassion or willingness to help in an emergency. The staff's response was both dismissive and confusing--saying she wasn't my dog to avoid treating her, yet also telling me it was my responsibility to care for her. I've brought in a dog before for a similar issue--one that wasn't mine, just a dog I was temporarily caring for--and was welcomed with open arms. I was hoping for the same understanding this time, but instead I left feeling like the dog didn't matter. This clinic missed an important opportunity to show care and empathy. read more

Thank you for amazing care and attention! Dr. Sanchez and Rhonda were attentive, kind, and patient with my little girl - Daphne, the cat. Daphne can become very stressed at a vet, but they slowly got her used to the space and their smells prior to a thorough exam. In turn, Daphne did not growl or hiss or be anything less than loving. Dr. Sanchez is one of the more knowledgeable vets we have experienced, providing detail on UTI vs UTI symptoms due to stress, how to and how often to brush a cat's teeth, and symptoms to watch out for as cats age. I have been taking my dog here since we got him a year ago. I've always had an amazing experience until the last visit. This was not due to the vet at all, this was from the woman at the front desk. I arrived 5 minutes late. It was a 5pm appointment, and we all know downtown traffic can be crazy sometimes. So before even saying hello she's looking at her watch as I'm walking up all aggravated and when I go to say hello she responds with " youre 5 minutes late so we only will have 15 mins to see your dog and we'll do what we can in that time." I was very taken back by this attitude. They finally got my dog back and I walked away for 5 minutes to use the restroom and in that time the receptionist called me being so rude stating I can't legally walk away from the front if my dog is back there, I was literally in the same building 10 steps away... After such ignorance we have decided we will no longer be returning to this clinic. read more

Felt compelled to write a review because I'm pretty shocked the rating is so low. I've been taking my elderly male cat to South Loop Animal Hospital, specifically Dr. Manrique who is one of the cofounders, since 2016. I've gone to both the south loop location and this East Side location and both are great. The receptionist I've interacted most with at East Side is Calli and she's great! She knows and loves my cat. We've also seen Dr. Konishi quite a bit and really like her. Both Dr. Manrique and Dr. Konishi know my cat well and show that they care about him and his well being. I have and will continue to recognize this business. read more

Visiting from Canada and had to extend my stay so I needed to buy my cats some food because one of them really doesn't do well off the prescription diet urinary tract food. Called this vet to see if I could buy some food and it was a hard no because I'm not a client. I get making sure you have supply for your clients, but I also assume most Veterinarian go into their line of work because they care about animals too. This place didn't give me that sense at all, not even empathetic that they couldn't help. I wouldn't be a client if I lived in Chicago based on this experience anyway. read more

Unbelievable to me that they would have such a low rating. It is frankly easy to see in the text of the reviews that the lower ratings are not for the lack of care for your pet I did follow doctor Konishi over from vca and she has been a lifeline for Lily. Lily has ibd and allergies and a knack for getting hurt. Dr Konishi has always been great with lily, a reactive dog and makes her feel calm. I look at pictures of my 68 lbs lily back when she was 50lbs and I can't imagine taking her to anybody besides doctor Konishi. She has done excellent work with the allergies and ibd--very politely scrolling through the pictures of all of Lily's poops I tracked religiously, monitored a ccl tear that thankfully didn't require surgery, repaired and ear hematoma, healed ear infections, removed cracked teeth and diagnosed Lily's retinal degeneration .... and after all that Lily lights up when she goes to the vet and gets in her belly rubs. Can't say I've had any trouble with the reception or anything like that. Honestly very kind to me considering how late I sometimes am. They did a good job sending the records needed for Lily's insurance claims. Only negative is the location. I don't love taking my reactive dog through a mall so I prefer the south loop location when I can get it. The garage is also finicky with the validation, I almost always have to call the attendant. It's much more preferable to have a location with a back door in the reactive dog situation, but we can manage so we do. When choosing the best care for my sweet, delicate flower of a Pitt Bull I can't say that the parking situation could deter me at all. read more

Don't waste your time here. It's convenient to how close it is to us, but the prices are outrageous and the service is average at best.

We cannot say enough great things about East Side and the incredible staff! We've taken our dog here several times since adopting her and have felt so supported every time. All of the staff and veterinarians are personable and very engaged in the care of our dog. We always feel welcome and well taken care of whether we are in the clinic or just calling for advice. Our calls and emails are always responded to in a timely manner. Dr Konishi is our vet and we LOVE HER! She is so attentive and provides exceptional care. Hi, this is Benny (St Bernard). Even though I'm not particularly eager to go to the vet when needed, the team is very friendly and takes good care of me. I get peanut butter even when I do not have a scheduled (waiting for mom to come out of Mariano's) visit with the wonderful Dr. Konishi and all of her staff. Mom tells me I am stubborn, but I know we would be going somewhere else if she did not think I was getting the best care. But I will tell you a secret; I do not want to go anywhere else. And I tell my friends in the park that the Doctor is super friendly and knowledgeable, and we get peanut butter (did I mention that already?). Ask us if you see us in the park. read more

If you have a sick pet/same day need, this vet apparently does not have time in their day for this. They book by appointment only. I called them and said I had a sick pet and the earliest they could get him in was a week later. They had ZERO interest in helping my sick pet or referring me to an emergency animal hospital. I recently moved to the neighborhood and was advised by other locals not to go to this clinic. Convenience won though and I threw caution to the wind. And, here I am giving one star. Terrible communication, disorganized, and no attention to detail or follow-through. - Disorganized: appointments seem easy enough to get right but it took 3 separate requests to get a call back to even make an appointment. - Disorganized: once the appointment was made, I gave all my info, my dog's info, and the reason for the visit to a vet tech over the phone, to the receptionist over the phone, to the receptionist when I arrived, to the vet assistant, and to the vet. With all of that you would think they would have gotten it. - Attention to detail: whenever I got the visit's notes, not only was my dog's name incorrect and inconsistent, so was the listed sex. I received a Rx for food, which I had to order online. It took them multiple days to confirm something that was supposedly "super easy" and "routine." So much so that Chewy asked me to intervene because they were unable to confirm the Rx. - Attention to detail/communication: In the meantime, the receptionist can email me multiple times per day requesting vaccination records. Remember all those people I had to talk to before the visit? They all were told shots were lapsed, in addition to my registration paperwork. And the vet RECOMMENDED that we NOT update the shots until we resolved her other issue. But sure, follow up on the non-issue. - Follow-through/Care: This is the kicker for this review. Same deal: tell everyone under the sun who you are and what you want. I needed a referral to a specialist for a surgery, because no way was anyone from this clinic doing a surgery on my dog. Pretty simple. *It has now been 2 weeks with multiple calls from me and I STILL don't have the referral.* Moral: don't waste your money here. All you'll get is frustration. read more

Dr Konishi and her team are outstanding, patient, kind and caring. Dr. Konishi is most personable, approachable and knowledgeable. She takes her time with her patients - they are most important to her. She is exceptionally well trained and with her attention to detail she saved Maxl's life. Our Maltese had a carcinoma that Dr Konishi detected early and operated on. He is happy and healthy and the treatment during after was amazing. Calli and Dennis, the admin administrators are on top of appointments, paperwork and manage the staff very well. Both are the kindest people you will meet! And Dr Sanchez and Dr Manrique have always been very helpful the rare times when Dr. Konishi was on leave. Maxl is 9 years now- happy and healthy - and Southside and later Eastside Vet Clinic and their staff and docs who work as a great team have always been there for us. We are very grateful. New to the city with a sick pup we were able to get an appointment same day at Eastside! The clinic is nice and new and everyone was super friendly. We saw Dr. Plourde and he was great with our dog. Going to the DVM is right up there with going to the DMV in terms of dread and knot in my stomach; and my dog confided that he liked it even less. I felt a little better about East Side Vet Clinic though, as it has the home field advantage. It is a few blocks from my home so I was able to combine a dog walk with a vet visit, which was lovely. But, even if that were not the case, this is a top rate place. I am over McVet places, with the assembly line feel. My vet visit for my medically complex, geriatric dog was leisurely and thorough. Dr. Ojala has a great way with her patients and seemed actually interested in my pet. There were concerns that needed following up on, and I am still in that process, but I really feel grateful that my guy is in competent hands. In addition to all this good stuff, the office is beautiful and clean and there is a great office manager. Downside--it is expensive. I wish I had asked about prices before agreeing to some of the procedures, but in retrospect, I still would have consented, as I believe that they were necessary. read more
