Since we were coming back down south from Wiscasset, we thought it would be a good idea to stop in Freeport and check out some of the shops. Mangy Moose was near the top of our list, so off we went. In essence, Mangy Moose is a gift shop that sells lots of souvenirs and other tchotchkes. You may be thinking that it's like every other souvenir shop in a touristy part of Maine - and I may agree with you to an extent. However, I like the fact that Mangy Moose is large and its selection is beyond what you would find elsewhere; I would argue that you would need to go to several stores to find what MM has under one roof. Clothing, jewelry, signs, books, housewares, holiday stuff, toys - it's all here. Also, the store is arranged nicely with lots of space to roam. Overall, if you're in Freeport I would definitely recommend stopping at Mangy Moose - it's a nice break from the typical outlets you find in the area and you may just leave with a little something.

This is one of the few places I can find Butter Rum LifeSavers for my friend. This candy store isn't too big or too small. There a ton of variety for everyone AND they are great at managing stock - I have never found an expired product there. The staff is welcoming. I have always been greeted when walking in. During the Halloween on Main St celebration each year, they have one of the best trick-or-treat spots! I enjoy visiting and shopping here whenever I'm in the area.
