One of my favorite shops in Freeport! They have some of the best T-shirts and hoodies, a good selection of Maine related gifts, as well as other gifts. It's always fun to look around and buy a souvenir for myself or someone else. Something that took this place to the next level for me, was my most recent visit. My mom was looking at shirts and having trouble deciding between sizes. She asked one of the employees if she could try them on. The employee dropped what she was doing and took my mom downstairs to the employee bathroom so she could try her shirts on. The people who work at this shop have always been nice, but this took it to the next level. Definitely stop here! read more

The Mangy Moose and I go way back - during my childhood trips to Maine we would frequently stop in Freeport for the day and visit this store during our shopping adventures. Since we were coming back down south from Wiscasset, we thought it would be a good idea to stop in Freeport and check out some of the shops. Mangy Moose was near the top of our list, so off we went. In essence, Mangy Moose is a gift shop that sells lots of souvenirs and other tchotchkes. You may be thinking that it's like every other souvenir shop in a touristy part of Maine - and I may agree with you to an extent. However, I like the fact that Mangy Moose is large and its selection is beyond what you would find elsewhere; I would argue that you would need to go to several stores to find what MM has under one roof. Clothing, jewelry, signs, books, housewares, holiday stuff, toys - it's all here. Also, the store is arranged nicely with lots of space to roam. Overall, if you're in Freeport I would definitely recommend stopping at Mangy Moose - it's a nice break from the typical outlets you find in the area and you may just leave with a little something. read more

This is a nice store to pop into and look around in Freeport, ME. They have a wide variety of items: t shirts, decorative items, old licence plates, greeting cards, table and kitchen ware, ME maple syrup and jellies and more. The store is visually appealing and well organized and is not as touristy as some other places. Prices pretty comparable. It is worth a stop in. read more

This was our favorite store in all of Maine and Massachusetts! There is such a variety of goods to please both tourists and locals. The products offered are top quality and the prices are very reasonable. The selection of children's books was phenomenal! In the course of two visits to this shop we purchased many different items. The sales staff is friendly and are there to help but otherwise just did their own thing while we took our time browsing. Well worth a visit! read more

This is the kind of store you want to find in Maine. Fantastic name. Loads of Maine-specific items, and a great place to stop if you're visiting and need something to bring home. Very eclectic mix of items. Prices vary wildly. Some things were a bargain and others were a bit too much for what you'd get - but that's how it is in many similar stores in New England. It was crowded (very popular!) when we went in. They allow dogs which is nice. I didn't buy anything but I loved browsing. You can spend quite a bit of time just looking at the displays and fun stuff they have for sale. read more

Fourth of July Weekend = Small Town America Shopping in Maine = Kitschy Little Shops As we were strolling down Main Street, we came upon this little shop and it's just one of those stuff shops you can't help but go look in Selection: I've got to be honest, it is a tourist shop. Lot's of "Maine" and "Freeport" things written all over your standard items, but it's also a shop that locals can enjoy. Once you shift past the typical souvenirs, you'll find a lot of things of interest: like books and Table Topics, kitschy magnets and home decor. There are lots of quirky knick-knacks: books, guides and entertaining items; as well as a lot of simply cool things that you'll almost really want. From jewelry for you mother to a wooden bear for that weird aunt, a neat little hand-made toy for your nephew or a moose pillow for your grandmother, it's all in here. Go, take a look around, it won't break the bank, but it will make you glad Maine has a lower sales tax. Venue: I'm not going to lie, this sort of store feels out of place to me in Freeport, not because it's not an outlet store (I remember Freeport back before it was outlet central) but because it feels like it belongs in Montana more than Maine. Turns out, there's a reason for that. The Mangy Moose is actually a small collection of chain stores that are based out Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Culture shock solved. Out-of-state feel aside, Mangy Moose draws the eye for exactly that reason. It's big, it's log-cabin like and completely different from the other stores that surround it. If you're looking for something of the beaten path, or a more original birthday gift or souvenir, stop by, you'll be able to find something. read more

A awesome gift shop across from L.L. Bean, the name caught my eye and we didn't walk out till each holding a shopping bag... Lots of humor/fun/country gifts, gifts for kids, cards, t-shirts, dolls, necklaces etc, but at a much higher quality than your usual run-of-the-mill gift shop. I found an adorable forest animal finger puppet set I previously purchased in Cali for a friend here at less than 1/3 the cost, hilarious but PG t-shirts for some friends, and fun signs to hang on the door. Great stop if you're looking for souvenirs. read more

Kind of your basic JFT (junk for tourist) shop. That said, it's better than most. Employees were very pleasant. Good selection of hats, mugs, t-shirts, signs, decals, you name it. Some genuinely clever artwork on some of the t-shirts set them apart from the rest of the crowd. If you're looking for Maine-oriented souvenirs, you gotta check this place out. This is sort of an anomaly for Freeport (which is one big outdoor outlet mall). It's what's best described as an "oddity store". Think old time general store without the food. There are the usual assortment of tourist knick-knacks with "Maine" plastered all over them, but it also has a lot of games, handmade things (usually made in Maine), wooden kids' toys (very hard to find), as well as sculptured animals and stonecraft. Oh and jewelry too. There is probably something for everyone in this store from toddlers to teenage girls to old geezers to soccer moms to macho men. This place has it all. And the prices weren't that bad for a tourist trap, but not they're not great for an outlet store. (I picked up a card trivia game for $10 which is the retail price I've seen elsewhere.) It's unique shop that's worth a stop in Freeport's vanilla outlet store shopping. read more
