This was my first lobster roll spot when landing in Portland, Maine, and it was definitely my…read morefavorite! The location is right by the Portland Head Light, so if you're done exploring, perfect spot to enjoy some lunch. I ordered the Maine Style lobster roll and thought it was amazing! The texture of the lobster was so soft and tender, which is different than lobster rolls I've had in the past. I also enjoyed their side of potato chips. They have many picnic tables near the food truck where you can enjoy the water and lighthouse views, except beware of the wasps! Was surprised how many wasps are around the city.

The weather was a little chilly and rainy, so the line for food was pretty short and moved pretty quickly. The best part about this experience was being able to sit at a picnic bench and look out at the stunning views while enjoying the lobster (although there were some very interested bees we had to deal with). The workers were also very pleasant. I want to note first that I'm pretty sure it was slightly more expensive than the other rolls we ate this whole weekend looking at ounces, but I personally still think it's worth it to try for some of the unique flavors. On the positive, I got the curry lobster roll (4.5 ounce size) and really enjoyed it. Good, solid lobster (not the best I've ever had but no real complaints), and the sauce was awesome with some lemon added on top. You get a little side of chips, those were fine but I didn't need them. My husband got a Connecticut lobster roll (6 ounces). This should be nice and warm all around. At the window they gave him the roll and asked if he wanted the butter on it and poured for him. Very unfortunately this roll was cold all around -- cold lobster, cold butter, and my husband said it was quite unpleasant to eat as a result and he couldn't finish the roll. Afterward, we looked up reviews and noticed that others had a similar experience. Just a bummer to advertise warm buttered and serve it cold consistently. All in all, I would give this a 4 and my husband would give it a 1, so we rested on a 3 because I did really enjoy mine. As mentioned above, I'd definitely recommend trying for the more unique flavors, but for a more classic roll I'd suggest elsewhere.

The braised and crisped pork belly (Buta No Kakuni) here was some of the best I have ever had. One of those "Holy sh*t" bites where you have to put your head down to process what just assaulted your taste buds. Perfectly rendered fat, good meat to fat ratio, super crisp outer exterior but not too much where it gets tough, the caramelized soy glaze to top it all off.. It was just so good. Also, getting a bite with the kewpie, pickled onion, and pork belly all in one shot is chefs kiss. It doesn't even need all the supporting characters, but it makes it that much better. Slightly overshadowed by the pork, I also got an onigiri. It was filled with chicken and chives. Overall I thought the onigiri was decent. Chicken and chive wouldn't be my top filling but it was tasty nonetheless and still worth trying! I like that they griddle it slightly to help it hold its structure instead of using a piece of nori. Its a pretty relaxing feel inside the place. Staff was also attentive and pleasant. We set in the back, up a few steps right underneath an awesome Totoro poster- iykyk.

The gyudon I got was delicious, filling, and made for great leftovers. Split a grilled miso rice ball with my friend too and it was unbelievably crispy and delightful. Friendly young staff, cute store setup, unique drink options, and a modern casual vibe all around. Top notch.
