The fact that there's no front wall means that on those rare occasions when someone is below you, they can see you if you are right by the edge. But you only have to back up a few feet and you're hidden. And it's definitely worth it for the effect of being so close to the ocean. They provide snorkeling gear, and you can step into the water from just a few feet from your door. And the tiny inlet right there had tons of cool fish! I could have snorkeled all day! There's also a very small beach nearby. Otherwise, you're a pretty decent walk from town and the main beach. It was off-putting the first night we went to dinner, but Yelapa is so beautiful (and there's no hurry to do things) that we came to appreciate the nice walk to and from town. And you can't really snorkel at the main beach anyway! A couple little issues: the bed was extremely hard. We both like firm beds, but this was just too much and neither of us got a good night's sleep. There were two beds and we actually only tried one because it was in a better location (the other was right by the door and would get the blazing morning sun). But it's possible the other bed was softer, though it looked the same. The other little issue was that there wasn't really anyplace to put your clothes and bags. We didn't have much, but we ended up just keeping it on the other bed. They rented out kayaks for something like 10 pesos. When you're charging someone $100/night, you ought to just throw in the kayaks for free! But it wasn't a big deal and it was very convenient to be able to kayak from right out your door. I'd stay there again, though I'd like to try to plan a family trip and stay in the penthouse with 6 or more of us.

It's an open air structure so if you are a light sleeper, it's probably not the best place for you. Bring an eye mask as the sunlight is bright. The only negative we experienced was there was a terrible thunderstorm at night and the unit got flooded as well as filled with creepy crawlies that sought higher ground. Having said that, the staff laid out concrete the next day and we were fine the next night. Overall, we really enjoyed the stay.

Let me start off by saying my partner and I had so much fun on our three night stay here. The hotel…read morefeels nestled in to the jungle and hillside. The rooms/balconies were spacious. The activity staff kept the energy going at the family pool. We also enjoyed the spa. We were not thrilled with the food. I thought breakfast and lunch were fine, both meals had attentive service and the food was okay. Dinner in the à la carte restaurants is where things really fell apart. The restaurants were so short staffed I felt bad for the servers, they were in the weeds every night. It seemed like the hostess had to help on the floor so guests would wait at the hostess stand outside for 5-10 minutes before being acknowledged. Once seated it was a good 10 minutes before being acknowledged by a server and getting water or a drink order. One night friends we met at the pool invited us to join their table & the server got annoyed with us. Overall, the accommodations for the all inclusive is a decent value. I would say if you want to stay here, just avoid the à la carte dinner options and check out a local restaurant.

We had most of our meals at buffet La Fuenta, and we always found something tasty to eat for adults and our toddler, like personal omelets for breakfast, tacos, fruits, milk, etc. Sometimes they had different themes for the food so there is some variety. Our favorite specialty restaurant was Los Arcos, the steak house, and the least favorite was Capri, the Italian. The resort offers evening shows at the theater that were fun to watch, activities for kids and adults during the day, pool with pool bars, access to the sandy beach (not the calmest or the cleanest but the sand was a lot of fun for our toddler and I saw two large stingrays swimming by) and you can borrow kayaks if you like to go from one side to the other of the beach. Staff and service were excellent, they helped us have a great time and take care of our toddler. The drinks are on the light side though, I was always with a cocktail in my hands and I didn't even get tipsy, and my tolerance isn't that high lol. Oh and bring some dollars for tips.

If you want to experience something different than the all inclusive hotels around, Casa Iguana is the right place. You wake up to the sound of exotic birds and fresh air. The beach is a 10 min walk where you can find a lot of local restaurants and businesses offering entertainment rides to the jungle, waterfalls, snorkeling, beautiful beaches. The Zoo is a must see and it's a 10 min walk away from the hotel. There are few local mini markets that you can find everything that you need from snacks, beverages, suntan lotion, fresh fruits, alcohol etc. The city is small but have few must visit restaurants with breathtaking views and few up the street with very authentic vibe. At night you can find a little taco stand with delicious food. The local children are just playing on the street and greeting all the visitors. If you like tequila Mismaloya has 3 tequila tasting shops that open at 7 am. Hotel Casa Iguana in Mismaloya is definitely a different experience, an old gem hidden in the jungle. Good people, plenty of places to visit and experience the authentic Mexico. The busy night life of Puerto Vallarta is 25 min away with a bus ride for 10 pesos or 200 pesos via taxi. Don't forget your mosquito repellent for at night and early mornings :) We stayed there for 4 nights and will be back soon!
