After filling a bag we ran into John as he was picking some Crab Apples. A half hour later and we had discussed everything from the chemical reaction that makes some apples sweeter than others, to his families history and what brought them to the area, to why planting a seed that you got from an apples, isn't necessarily going to produce an apples tree that produces apples that taste like the apple it came from (mind blown!). My son really fed off of John's excitement which was awesome to see. What if you don't run into John? You've still ended up at the best orchard within a 100 miles. I've been apple picking in the Hudson Valley for over 20 years. You see the same 4-5 variations of apples. However, once you see all of the variations that Wightman has, you'll feel cheated by the limited options at other orchards.

I noticed towards the back, I see a wall of homemade jams. And they're all packaged in these cute mason jars! Sunday, its check out time and we're heading back to Long Island after breakfast. My wife said we need to go shopping for dinner today. I said, Let's go back to Wright's Farm and pick up dinner? And this was the highlight of our trip. In the cold cases, I see homemade ravioli, one of the stuffings was corn? I had plans to stop in The Bronx and get a few boxes of Raviolis. I gambled and said lets try their corn ravioli. O.M.G. This ravioli was fantastic! My wife made it with fresh sage from our herb garden. It was a little pricey but it was better than anything I had this year. For the week, we bought a large ham steak and a ham hock for pea soup. I saw something interesting, a black futsu squash? I told my wife, lets buy one and take a chance. Amazing! My wife cooked this squash and it came out deelish. Dessert? My sons inhaled the apple cider doughnuts we bought home for them. Hello. I didn't really get a chance to enjoy my visit. I walked in with my service dog, and an…read moreemployee immediately told me "no animals." I calmly asked why that applied to service dogs, and she couldn't give me any explanation at all. Within the first two minutes, I decided it was best to leave and told her there was no need to be rude -- we were already heading out. She then followed us all the way to the door, continuing to confront and harass us even as we were leaving. For clarity: service dogs are legally allowed in all public-facing businesses in New York, including orchards, farms, grocery stores, and any place open to the public. This is protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and New York Civil Rights Law §47. Businesses may only ask two questions and cannot deny access, demand paperwork, or enforce "no pets" rules on service dogs. Here is the official ADA guidance on service animals: https://www.ada.gov/resources/service-animals/ I hope this location takes the time to properly train staff, because what happened today was not acceptable and absolutely not legal.

Each food and beverage option was clearly thought out by the owners to make their guests get into the Autumn and Halloween season. There is a gift shop that is filled with country items and different little knickknacks and tasty bites. You enter through the store, so I would recommend buying your stuff before your night begins so they do not run out of stock. There were fires pits and a band that played all night. The band was perfect! They were not loud and just played the right type of music for the atmosphere. I have been to a lot of outside venues like this one and the bands are either too loud or play music that is "just not right". The band Pierson's had was very low key but were excellent musicians and the lead singer had a great voice and their choice of songs were perfect for the atmosphere. The prices for drinks, food and gift shop items are in line with prices at other events of this type in the area. Thank you Pierson's staff and owners for providing such a great event.
