Great facilities. We came to see a movie, they had the projector on the stage. The movie started at 7:30pm, but they start seating at 6:45pm. I would suggest getting there right when they start seating if you're particular about finding a good seat. They do not show movie previews before the movie. We got our tickets online, however, when you arrive, you still have to go to the box office on the left after entering to get your paper tickets. They have snacks and beverages on the 1st floor. They offer a shot of alcohol in your hot cider or hot cocoa at the 1st floor concession stand. If you want beer or wine, you have to go to the concession stand upstairs. I believe the concession stand prices were a bit more reasonable than a normal movie theatre. The lines are long but they move super fast and the staff is phenomenally nice. We parked on the street and downloaded the parking meter app. They have a parking garage that is super close and I sort of wish we parked there. Will definitely return. read more

Went to Gettysburg specifically to see A Christmas Carol, presented by Totem Pole Theater group. The play itself was very good for a small company. The theater itself was very nice with it's history, reminiscent of the small local movie theater I grew up with. Now the reason for only 3 stars was due to someone thinking that selling popcorn in paper bags was a good idea! During the first half of the play it was so annoying hearing the crunching and rustling of the paper bags. It's not like it was a movie that had loud speakers but it was during a play with live, speaking actors. Thankfully there wasn't anyone with in a few rows of us with popcorn. As loud as the bags were, I couldn't imagine sitting next to someone eating popcorn. Really a bad idea. Take away the popcorn or at least sell in cardboard tubs and the experience would have been sooooooo much better. read more

Majestic Theater - Cinema Near Me - Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

A lot of Tom W's criticisms of the Majestic are very valid. Last year we did a little road trip to Gettysburg to go see the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and he's right in that there were not many decent choices for pre-show food and the audience skewed much older than I expected. We've seen Preservation Hall before and don't get me wrong in that you're not going to see many people under 40 at one of their shows but we may have been two out of ten to fifteen max under the age of sixty at this show. The theatre itself is beautifully restored with a very nice lobby, small photo gallery, and a bunch of neat old movie posters. The show itself was very good although sparsely attended which is surprising because the theatre sends out A LOT of emails about upcoming shows and movies if you get on their list. We would come back for the right show but be it the wrong demographics in the area or simply just poor booking on the part of theatre management, hence all of the John Tesh-like concerts, and I have not seen a show on their calendar since that would be interesting or worth it which is sad because it really is a good venue and good location but it's too bad that it's currently being poorly/under utilized. read more

I just got out of a wedding held here. I won't speak to the wedding preparations themselves - as that was done by the wedding party and outside vendors - but the location was a unique choice for a wedding. The ceremony took place on the stairs, which created a dramatic entrance, the conference room upstairs was spacious, and the old movie posters added a certain vibe. Downstairs, the bridal party had access to a few dressing rooms, which I'm sure was hugely helpful. My biggest complaint was that we didn't have access to the theater at all. I would have loved a chance to at least poke my head in. Over-all great venue for a 50-100 person wedding, and I will hopefully get to come back some time for a show. read more

I remember as a kid, going to the Majestic to watch movies. The theater sat dormant for years. Fortunately, it was resurrected. I was very excited when it was restored and I had visions of great shows and concerts coming to the little town of Gettysburg. The town gets a million visitors a year for an important part of US history. But let's face it, the Civil War will not change. The re-enactments will always be the same. The result, will always be the same. That's why I was excited for the Majestic to reopen. The thought of something fresh in Gettysburg was a welcome vision. Too bad, it has fallen flat. Don't get me wrong, at first the Majestic was cool. We saw two of the Solstice music shows, an Irish concert, and the Bacon Brothers. By the way, the Bacon Brothers were AWESOME! I bought Smothers Brothers tickets for my parents. Lately, the Majestic is offering nothing of interest. It's the usual low-end shows that, interestingly, have middle-of-the-road prices. I stopped checking the web site. I filtered the Majestic emails to my junk folder. I prefer going to the Strand-Capitol in York for shows.. They are cheaper. They are better. The traffic in York flows better than it does in Gettysburg. There are better restaurants and bars for a pre-show meal and drink. The shows that are coming to the Majestic are for old fogeys. I don't get it. Isn't Gettysburg College full of students that like progressive music or shows? Maybe I'm profiling but I think Gburg College students have the money to come see a show...if you offered something they like. John Tesh? Seriously? read more

WOW....what a great theater! I think a lot of recent work was done to restore it back to it's former grandeur. I'm impressed. :) My son and I were lucky to be invited to the premiere of Route 30 part 3 (which btw will be showing in York as well but not until April). The movie was entertaining, the theater was well kept including the ladies powder room...very important *wink*, and they have a gallery featuring local artist with work to buy. If you get a chance....check it out, make a day of it and wonder about looking at the lovely houses and cute shops. That's what we did after scrumptious cake at the diner across the street. Next review.... Edited to add: A portion of the theater is a gallery if you have an interest in looking at or purchasing works of art. AND...they have a volunteer program for you locals. Great price for admission. Competitive price for concessions. I've been here a few times. I'd say an average theater, good value, fairly clean. I bring my two children when I come to visit the in laws in the area. Recommend the matinees. Kids go crazy for the games in the lobby. Note that you have to convert coins/dollars into tokens to use the games. read more

Beautiful theater. Be sure to walk around and admire its magnificent restoration before/after your show. "They don't make 'em like the used to," and this is a reminder of that. Theater and bathrooms are clean. Seats are comfy. Get a bag of popcorn. It's far better than any other theaters in the area. read more

Once in a great while the Majestic may have a good show. Yet, the main reason why I like the beautifully restored theater is the summer Classic Movie Nights. For the past several summers every Wednesday night the Majestic shows old and classic movies. While some of the movies aren't good, some are very good. It is worth going on there site to check out what is playing in the summer. Also while their normal movies are played in the small back theaters the classic films are shown in the main theater. read more

I was born and raised in Gettysburg, and the Majestic has been there forever. When the college bought it, it's improved greatly. I can't attest to the catering but in terms of movies it's great! They show an excellent list of independent films that you can't see at megaplexes. read more
