STAY AWAY FROM REFCIO FIRM; IT IS BUILD ON FAKE PROMISES TO GET YOUR RETAINER. He is a great talker and a good liar. He tells you a fake promise so that he can take your money and he doesn't provide you with the service. He lied to me and told me he will do this and that. Then after I paid my retainer, he ghosted me for 2 years and didn't do anything. The secretary scheduled me for at least 8 phone calls with the lawyer and every time the lawyer stood me up. Every time, the secretary would say the lawyer is busy and N/A. After I paid my retainer, I could not talk to the lawyer for 2 years straight. 2 years later, the lawyer finally contacted me because he wanted more money, not because he wanted to work on my case. He lied and told me he had done a lot of paperwork and had gathered a lot of information, and everything was ready to go. He said the other party had a new address and for my file to proceed, I will have to pay $1000 for the information update to proceed with my case. Refcio is extremely pathetic. Outright scam.

I was looking for a lawyer to help me with a long drawn out family law matter. I got the…read morerecommendation through my workplace EAP program. Cohen Highley gave me a newer lawyer Terrah Smith which was fine, her price seemed reasonable. I payed the $4000 retainer figuring I was about 2 months from trial how much could it possibly cost. Terrah showed up for one court date which lasted all of 20 minutes, she didn't do what I wanted but fine she's the expert. Its important to know my child was in an abusive situation and even the children's lawyer recommendation was that the father should not be left alone with the child for any amount of time. That court date cost me about $500 seems reasonable. She did have her assistant " who costs less hourly" organize my paperwork which was probably the best service I got from this ordeal. I didn't have much contact with Tereah besides emails I thought were nice, checking in to see how things are going. Or asking me to call the office, all great until I get a bill at the end of the week. A few weeks before my trial Terrah said she was passing my case to a coworker of hers who was less pricey as her prices went up almost weekly. I met with her coworker who told me I needed to put down another $10k retainer for trial which I was not told about in the beginning and that my original retainer had run out. I was so shocked and feel like I was robbed. Terrah did not take my child's best interest into consideration, she appeared not to care and she was not up front with her fees. I would not recommend this law firm nor would I ever go there for any service again. On a plus side, the lady at the front desk is very kind and compassionate.

My ex hired him and insisted on him and it was clear he was friendly and knew my ex's lawyer. They were making jokes and he made references to what my ex's lawyer would do and that he was a 'hot head' and would serve me with court documents within 2 weeks if I didn't comply. He made jokey references to my profession in child protection work 'maybe you will call your CAS buddies' and did not make me feel empowered in any way. He minimized the financial impropriety I experienced in the marriage and showed he was disinterest by lots of eye rolling, rather than focusing on strengths and worries. His colleague Sarah was almost worse and had actually worked with my ex's lawyer. She did disclose this at the beginning, but it was still so inappropriate.
