Second only to their homes. I'm well aware of the exacting standards needed. The self discipline needed and the attention to detail and care for details needed to restore someone's prized luxury vehicle. Those same standards apply to working in or on someone's home. My previous reviews explain how I met Jake at Barker Tech. This is a new review with new perspective. It's been over two years since I paid Jake and shook his hand. In those two years Jake has reached out 3 times to check on my home and his work. It just seems to be how he is. In those two years I've reached out with some admittedly stupid questions and each time he's addressed my concerns without any snark or down talk that some techie guys use when speaking to plebes. I needed additional home tech stuff and naturally I reached out to Jake. His response was timely given his work load and he immediately offered elegant solutions to an inelegant problem. (Someone in my neighborhood is actively using my gravel yard as a dog pit stop and leaving me nasty surprises ). Jake offered some very clever options up to and including an outdoor speaker paired with my existing camera system (that he installed ) to politely ask the offending dog owner to remove their dog waste. Ultimately my wife vetoed the idea of me having the ability to leave audio messages for bad neighbors. But Jake's suggestion of an upgraded new camera with AI facial recognition and a wider field of view was perfect. Within a week Jake personally came back and upgraded the camera thus negating the one small blind spot the offender had been using. He kept his word. He sent me tutorials and worked with me not even being home to ensure that I was 100% satisfied with my upgraded surveillance view before leaving. Setting standards and holding yourself to them are key to excellence. Keeping your word and delivering what you promise are key to excellence. But. Excellence isn't derived from robot like adherence to guidelines. It's a combination of many intangible things. It's rare these days to encounter true excellence in almost any field. Jake at Barker Tech is an excellent example of excellence in action. Trustworthy. Reliable. Professional. Meticulous. Passionate. Informed and informative. Personable and Diligent. Recently, she called me in distress because she couldn't turn on the television in the living room. Under normal circumstances, that would be a small inconvenience. But my wife is currently battling stage-four ovarian cancer and only has a few months left. All she wanted was the simple comfort of sitting on the couch and watching TV. I called Jake and explained the situation. Without hesitation, he said he would come take a look. The next day, he and one of his technicians, Wilson, showed up and spent over an hour patiently troubleshooting the system until they got everything working again. When the work was finished, I asked what I owed him. Jake said there would be no charge given my wife's condition. I was honestly taken back. In a world where it often feels like everything is transactional, Jake chose compassion instead. This wasn't just good service, it was humanity, and I'll never forget that kindness. The work was fantastic and equally as thoughtful, even often going above and beyond what we originally discussed if something could be easily fixed around where they were working. For example, I recently had an AT&T Fiber install, and they noticed the line installed by the AT&T technician was just flapping in the wind against my house. While they were routing other lines, they took the time to secure that fiber line and clean it up, in addition to sealing the holes left by AT&T. The installations themselves were perfect, using laser measurers to ensure perfect alignment, bubble wrapping ladders to ensure no potential damage on drywall, running wires in such a way to hide them, running wires secured, etc. Just about as perfect as you could imagine an installation to be. Without a shred of doubt, the next time we have any additional low voltage/networking work needed, they are an easy automatic call for me. Strongly recommended!

Aside from being very knowledgeable about his domain, Kurtis and his team are also able to think creatively about different solutions. The pathway they created for all the wiring took them a great deal of effort, but it's almost invisible, both inside and outside the house. Their team worked tirelessly to make sure everything was installed well while maintaining the esthetic of our house. Asking for small adjustments, like lowering the TV after the first installment or removing older cameras, was never an issue. So finally got fed up, and I called BATH and told Ari what the issue was. He gave me a budget, which I bristled at, at first. Then he walked me through a likely fix, which involved a couple routers networked so that I had independent wifi running on both floors of the house but on the same network. The tech came by and was super nice, and walked me through what they were going to do. I was cautiously optimistic. When they were done? I almost cried at how well everything ran through my house. They even set me up so I had ethernet directly to my gaming PC, and direct into my TV and Xbox. I have not had a single issue since (beside Comcast caused outages), and have blazing fast wifi throughout the house (I pay for the gigaspeed Xfinity). I had an incredibly weird issue where some of my home outlets work and some do not and some were…read moreflickering in and out. The breaking point was when the internet became unreliable because the power was unreliable and the stove stopped working. I contacted Alex and he said he could send someone over that same day. He was transparent about the pricing before the job began. When his team member (Ming) came over he was thorough and transparent about what he found and Alex came over to assess himself. Turns out one of the main line coming into the house on the verge of burning out and thus the other 110v line was trying to compensate which caused it to also overload. This explained why the 240 outlets were not functioning. Our electrical was just old and the age caught up. He gave a reasonable estimate and fixed it by the end of the day. In passing, I also mentioned that although our stove worked, it seemed that it's power fades as I use it more and he was able to determine that line was under gauged for the load and was a fire hazard. Looking up the prior setup before my recent renovation, I see that they had incorrectly reduced the stove line from 40amps to 30amps. Alex and team was able to solved that problem as well, giving me updates along the way and providing very easy to understand explanations. This was an annoying problem plaguing us for years! Again, the pricing is very reasonable and the quality of work is exceptional. I highly recommend Alex Tong and his team.

Odometer on my 2001 Toyota Camry was having issues on high temp days that cause the odometer to not display and the speedometer to remain only at zero. It seems to be a common issue with older 1997-2001 Camrys and the solution was to replace with a new resistor (I tried replacing the VSS, transmission solenoids, spark packs/wires/plugs, new alternator and battery) per a video on YouTube. They did a great job with the soldering of the new resistor and I put the odometer/speedometer back together and into the car with no issues. Now to see if this resolves my Camry issues! I brought in my DualSense controllers to fix analog stick issues and paid $100 to repair three knobs. Just one week later, I had the exact same issue with one of the supposedly repaired sticks. When I brought it back, I was charged an additional $60 to fix what should have already been resolved. What's most frustrating is that I couldn't get a clear explanation as to why I was being charged again for the same issue. If a repair doesn't hold up after a week, that should fall under some kind of workmanship guarantee--not an additional charge. I want to continue supporting this business because I've had good experiences in the past, but this situation felt unfair and left me questioning the quality and accountability of the repairs.

My Home Automation/Internet has been a constant problem x 2-3 years, with things going off-line and not coming back 100%. I finally started to look into getting someone to come "fix it." I got several quotes, all were very expensive ($7000 -8000) with replacement of all my apple TV boxes, changing my mesh network, changing home wiring etc. I called Cable Shmable and they found several problems with they way Xfinity internet was wired and configured and fixed them within hours. My internet speed doubled, allowing more bandwidth that allowed by home integration/automation to get 100% back on-line immediately! Alexi and Kareem were very helpful, professional and gracious. The work was fantastic and equally as thoughtful, even often going above and beyond what we originally discussed if something could be easily fixed around where they were working. For example, I recently had an AT&T Fiber install, and they noticed the line installed by the AT&T technician was just flapping in the wind against my house. While they were routing other lines, they took the time to secure that fiber line and clean it up, in addition to sealing the holes left by AT&T. The installations themselves were perfect, using laser measurers to ensure perfect alignment, bubble wrapping ladders to ensure no potential damage on drywall, running wires in such a way to hide them, running wires secured, etc. Just about as perfect as you could imagine an installation to be. Without a shred of doubt, the next time we have any additional low voltage/networking work needed, they are an easy automatic call for me. Strongly recommended!

In those two years Jake has reached out 3 times to check on my home and his work. It just seems to be how he is. In those two years I've reached out with some admittedly stupid questions and each time he's addressed my concerns without any snark or down talk that some techie guys use when speaking to plebes. I needed additional home tech stuff and naturally I reached out to Jake. His response was timely given his work load and he immediately offered elegant solutions to an inelegant problem. (Someone in my neighborhood is actively using my gravel yard as a dog pit stop and leaving me nasty surprises ). Jake offered some very clever options up to and including an outdoor speaker paired with my existing camera system (that he installed ) to politely ask the offending dog owner to remove their dog waste. Ultimately my wife vetoed the idea of me having the ability to leave audio messages for bad neighbors. But Jake's suggestion of an upgraded new camera with AI facial recognition and a wider field of view was perfect. Within a week Jake personally came back and upgraded the camera thus negating the one small blind spot the offender had been using. He kept his word. He sent me tutorials and worked with me not even being home to ensure that I was 100% satisfied with my upgraded surveillance view before leaving. Setting standards and holding yourself to them are key to excellence. Keeping your word and delivering what you promise are key to excellence. But. Excellence isn't derived from robot like adherence to guidelines. It's a combination of many intangible things. It's rare these days to encounter true excellence in almost any field. So finally got fed up, and I called BATH and told Ari what the issue was. He gave me a budget, which I bristled at, at first. Then he walked me through a likely fix, which involved a couple routers networked so that I had independent wifi running on both floors of the house but on the same network. The tech came by and was super nice, and walked me through what they were going to do. I was cautiously optimistic. When they were done? I almost cried at how well everything ran through my house. They even set me up so I had ethernet directly to my gaming PC, and direct into my TV and Xbox. I have not had a single issue since (beside Comcast caused outages), and have blazing fast wifi throughout the house (I pay for the gigaspeed Xfinity). I'm finally utilizing the speed as sold to me by Xfinity. Thanks so much BATH. I really appreciate it. The team was already very familiar with Ubiquiti systems and was incredibly patient working with me despite my fairly basic understanding. They walked me through the tradeoffs and ultimately recommended stepping up from mid-range equipment to more professional-grade options. The reasoning was clear, the cost/benefit made sense, and at no point did I feel pressured--just well-advised.
