When I called he did not tell me the price and tried to charge me more in person and was extremely rude about it. Came here to re-sole some heels and I left happy with the quality of work, quick turnaround, and customer service. Each pair came out to around $76 with the new sole and heel tip. Needed a quick repair on my boots where the sole had peeled back. Due to quick timeframe I needed them by I agreed for it to be glued back vs getting a whole new sole. Gentleman who took the boots in insisted I needed new heel caps, which I personally didn't think it was necessary. I agreed to it and was asked to comeback within two hours. Once I arrived the fist thing that stuck out was the cheap quality of the heel caps. Not only did it look cheap but the color didn't even match the original sole/heel caps (dark brown/black). He insisted it was the best match he could find. I was so upset I had to just walk away because I needed to wear these boots to an event that night and was unable to because they look so awful. Honestly, I wish I would have pushed back on his suggestion to change the heel. I should have stood my ground and told him just to glue the sole. Now I'm going to have to pay double the cost to fix something that didn't need fixing in the first place. Hope they can at least return a call and honor fixing the heel caps. read more

I brought my Jimmy Choo heels in to get the strap fixed. I was charged $50 and picked up the heels five days later. After one day the strap ripped again and I brought them back to be repaired again. I waited another 5 days to pick them up and as I tried them on, the strap ripped again, along with more leather on the shoe. The shoes are in worse condition than they were when I brought them in. When I went back to the shop to ask for a refund the man tried to further convince me that he could repair it. I basically had to demand for a refund when it was already extremely obvious that I deserved one anyways. Anyone have an actually good recommendation for a different shoe repair shop? read more

My Thursday boots needed some TLC - my superhuman strength had ripped out most of the hooked eyelets towards the top of each boot. Jack's not only replaced them but (a) made them way more cool in black versus the original silver, and (b) made them very secure, hence immune to my aforementioned super strength. Lighting not too good in the place. Before purchasing, got confirmation that the item was black and not brown. Opened the package after I got it only to discover that the item is brown. Brought it back to the store. They refused to exchange it. NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN! The lighting is so poor that even their own people can't distinguish one dark color from another. read more

All I needed was a repair to a small area of the sole and they added a clunky rubber piece that makes my sneakers look like they are supposed to have a heel like tap shoes or mens dress shoes. There is an obvious step in the sole that resembles a men's heel! ALSO, I told them MANY times that these shoes have intended distressing and to NOT buff them out, and of course they did the exact opposite. Their response was that they remember me asking for them to not buff out the sole, but they just forgot... wow. I'm unkind to my shoes. I know I shouldn't wear them after wearing through the heel caps. I know that doing so makes them, and my hardwood floors, unhappy. But the cobbler I used prior to finding Jack's was far far away, meaning shoes would need to be gone for a whole week. What if I needed that exact pair that week? Jack's saved my poor shoes from months of agony and heartache. I drop shoes off on my way to work and can pick them up at lunch the same day. It's like magic. Good: Nice fix for heels. Clean and condition leather shoes. Friendly staff. Not sure: They also replaced the entire rubber soles for my Frye flats, which I am not so happy with. The new rubber soles are too stiff so it is harder to walk in, and now the flats keep coming off when I am walking. The patch work for the soles is very visible too. My friend really liked the replacement of his leather soles, so maybe they are not so good at rubber soles, or maybe I should have just bought a new pair.. read more

The thread at the top of one of the Kid's brand new Nikes came undone. Yes there's a hole on top of the shoe where the leather meets the fabric. Usually I chuck sneakers if they are broken but since the shoes are practically new, I searched for a cobbler in FiDi. Jack's opens early in the morning so I was able to drop the shoe off prior to going into the company. The guy promised the shoe will be fixed by lunch time. I wander in at one today and sure enough the shoe was fixed. Right now the shoe looks great. $8 to restitch the top of the shoe. Service was quick and price is good. read more

I came because of the Yelp reviews and am unfortunately very disappointed. They did a good job setting up the half sole protection but a terrible one for the metallic tip! :( See for yourself. It doesn't fit the shoe shape at all. The screws are not set evenly. Quick and poor craftsmanship. (last photo is what it should and could look like when done properly) And when I complained the cashier person said: "this is how it is done in the US. It is different in UK." I thought I had found a good place I could come and service my shoes in SF but I will never come back. read more

I came to get a buckle on the strap of my cross-body Coach bag (the piece holding the strap onto the bag) replaced since it had broken off. They were able to find a pretty comparable looking silver buckle from their collection of random parts to replace it with. It was a little bit tarnished and dirtier looking than my existing buckle, but in a pinch it works. They told me to pick up the strap 2 days later and I paid upfront $20 for the repair. Friendly and quick service and I would try them out again, maybe for shoe repair next time. read more

I bought these hot hot hot vintage black boots. They hit right below the knee and they have a three inch heel. They're hawt. I was walking down Montgomery Street after treating myself to a cup of Starbucks. I was strutting down the street with my coffee in hand, my boots on my feet and totally trying to be a model. I even winked at some business guys. All of a sudden, the front of my right boot got caught on one of those circle metal covering thingys (what are those called?!) on the corner of Sutter and Montgomery Street. Not knowing that, I continued to strut like a model -- only to find out that I was stuck. In front of half the Financial District, I kneeled down and pulled my right foot from the metal thing. I pulled it out with all my might and landed right on my bum. The front of my boot looked as if a dog had taken a bite out of it. Part of it hung off. I stayed strong and tried not to cry. Carefully carrying my injured boot back to my office, I immediately got on Yelp, and found JSS. I immediately took my shoes over to him. "My boot! I need you to perform your repair service on my boot. Please!" I exclaimed. I practically threw my boot at him - this was a fashion emergency and I needed to resuscitate my boot. The owner looked at it and said, "Women and their vintage shoes." I shrugged. "But they're hawt." I protested. Jack had my right boot fixed and did something to both of the heels - so now my vintage boots are in great condition. I went back at around 1 in the afternoon to get them so I could wear them to lunch (Don't worry, i had another pair of shoes but they didn't go with my outfit), and it only cost $24 for a job well done. HORRIBLE SERVICE AND EXTREME RUDENESS. I went to Jack's Shoe Repair several times and everything was fine. Last Saturday, I took 3 pairs of Christian Louboutin shoes to get soled (not to mess up the bottoms). I asked if Jack's can get them to me that day and the man at the counter said yes. About 4 hours later, I came to pick up my shoes and the soles are the most sloppy, careless work I have ever seen: The edges of the rubber sole are sticking out and not glued properly The cut is careless around the shoe so the edges appear jagged I become upset and ask the man at the counter how/why he could have done such a sloppy job, especially since he is aware that these shoes are expensive and my previous times have been positive experiences. His response is basically, "sometimes we do a good job, other times, it's hard." What kind of response is that? That man (who I think is the main guy) was completely unapologetic, did not offer to redo the work and instead stated that he was too busy to redo the job. As I'm walking out of the door, the man says, "don't come back and you're welcome." In my opinion, that is completely out of line, unprofessional and simply not appropriate work ethic. Guess what, I'm not thankful for your horrible, careless work and I won't ever come back. Yelpers, if you've had a good experience with Jack's Shoe Repair, it does not mean your next experience will be a good one. Have you ever had your strap break while walking down a busy street? Not your bra strap, not your jock strap, but your purse strap? On your [insert exorbitant amount here] handbag? Well, this happened to me this week and I was horrified. Not carrying my Louis Vuitton warranty with me, I didn't want to try the boutique, so I whipped out my phone and yelped up 'handbag repair' 'nearby' and found Jack's within 0.1 miles of the scene of the crime. I walked in and was immediately relieved to see another LV bag in the back. At least my bag would have another luxury bag to commiserate with while away from me. When I spoke with Jack he said that he hoped he had the part but was not sure-it was just a little rod but what a difference that rod makes. He gave me a tag and said to check back in later before closing at 5:30pm or the next day. When I phoned around closing he said that it was good to go. Just like that. I picked it up the next day and I couldn't even tell which of the four buckles had been fixed-whatever he found to do the trick was identical to the original parts. I hadn't even asked how much he would charge, and was pleasantly surprised to only be charged ten dollars. I can't recommend him highly enough, and apparently he's quite a hit with other yelpers. Next week I'm definitely going to return because I have many pairs of shoes that need some high maintenance too! read more

Unlike another local cobbler, Jack was helpful over the phone when I called in stressed - my entire sole fell off walking in to work today! They said it'd be quick and easy to repair, so for my lunch break I grabbed a sandwich and walked over. Less than 30 minutes from hitting the door I was back out. Staff were quick and pleasant and it only cost me $15. The 5th-star bonus was for the extra service - while I'd only complained about the one shoe, Jack (?) insisted on inspecting the other also. To my chagrin, the other sole was also coming loose, though not yet flopping; he quickly squirted a bunch glue into it so I wouldn't have the same problem on the other side! In addition to shoe, boot, briefcase, and handbag repair, they also sell accessories like polish, laces, insoles, and shoe trees. Quick, conscientious, and inexpensive - everything a businessman could want in a cobbler! The only thing missing was the peaches! I recently bought a new pair of nude Ferragamo pumps and needed to get them re-soled before wearing. After doing my research, I dropped by Jack's on my way to work in the morning and asked if they could do the job. They pulled out the nude Vibram rubber for the soles and checked if I would like it and accepted the shoes, which were done by the time I was heading home. They even joked that they had red soles available too, for my next pair of shoes, ha. I was so impressed that I came by the next morning with 2 pairs of boots (one tall black suede pair from dv and one short brown leather pair from Frye). Both had their soles completely worn out and had chunks of the heel missing from over-prontation. I asked if it was even possible to repair them, and to my surprise they said yes! The boots were also done at the end of the day and they look good as new. Jack's also cleaned them and let me know when to come back to have them repaired again in due time. They're a bit pricier than other shops in the area, but they've definitely gained my trust - especially for women's shoes! Will be back again with my next shoe purchase and future repairs. I brought in my favorite boots and was upsold rubber soles as to be more waterproof. I was told they'd be done by Friday. I paid $51 for the service and figured it would be a good investment to get them fixed properly. I'd be willing to pay whatever for them to fixed. It wasn't about the price, but the job done right! I came back to get them and I was VERY disappointed. Not only was it a shotty job.. they didn't even put the rubber soles like they said they would! I was told to wait, if possible, for 20 minutes to get them resoled. Fine. 20 minutes. No big deal. When I got them back, I checked out the work they did and I still wasn't wasn't satisfied. The heel stem of my boots were still in bad condition! This work DEFINITELY WASN'T worth $51!! I could have paid a cheaper place who could do a much better job AND follow directions! Booo for you for letting me trust you with my favorite $600 boots. And worse off: I think I should have stayed with the leather soles. I wore them recently and the rubber soles (which is actually PLASTIC and NOT rubber) don't have a good grip and I walk around town now slipping and slidding with them on. :( Alas...favorite boots no longer my favorite. :( read more

A few months back I took a pair of dress shoes into Jack's Shoe Repair. This is the place where I have been taking my shoes for 17 years. It was early morning when I walked into the store. I asked if I could have heels and soles for a new pair of Italian shoes I bought. He inspected the shoes and then asked me "Do these shoes belong to your manager?" I found it to be a strange question until I heard the next one. "How much did you pay for these shoes?" Interesting, does he ask this of all customers? This was the first time I had seen this person. Over the years, everyone was courteous and professional. I obviously took this for granted. Fortunately the next day, Jack's Shoe Repair did the work without incident. I have a special love for shoes. Especially high end shoes. Because of this, I don't trust my shoes to any other place than Jack's. I just picked up three pairs of Louboutins (one pair special order from the UK because they are not sold here) and a pair of Givenchy. All were resoled to perfection. And yes, he will put red Vibram soles on your Louboutins, ladies. And he will paint the edges so they don't look like you added rubber soles.
