He recommended a time in the afternoon to meet for "golden hour", but we were a bit apprehensive about the time due to our baby's sleep schedule. Mike was very understanding and said we could play it be ear as the day gets closer. The day before, we decided to meet in the morning instead, which Mike graciously accommodated. The photoshoot itself was a very pleasant and seamless experience. Mike was very friendly and made us feel at ease. Newborns are not always the most cooperative, which Mike was very understanding about. We even went over the hour-long time limit of the photoshoot, which he said not to worry about. I also mentioned how I liked some shots he did with another family that I saw on his website, which he was happy to try to recreate with us!

From the start, Nicole was amazing. So friendly and quick to respond to my many questions. She made the process of booking with them so easy. Their pricing is also extremely reasonable for what you get. What I liked the most was their bundles- for reference my husband and I purchased the diamond package which came with both photography and videography. We also purchased their love story video, which is a 5 minute video to tell the story of how we met, and where we are today with wedding planning. The love story video experience was awesome. It was my and my husband's first time being in front of a videographer, but Rob made us feel so relaxed. We ended up doing two different shoots because I felt the first shoot didn't match the overall vibe of the wedding (which was on US not Dream FX Media), I also felt that I wanted to prioritize different angles (since I'm a bit self conscious) and have the video be shorter (originally the first video was about 8ish minutes long). And yes, this sounds like a lot of requests, because it was. And I knew that, yet Nicole and Rob didn't make us feel that way at all. They were so accommodating, understanding, and never made me feel bad for wanting to reshoot it. The second shoot, was literally perfect. It captured the vibe we wanted (elegant and romantic), and was the perfect length (5 minutes long). They were also open to editing certain parts of the video based on my requests which made the whole process so easy for us. Nicole and Rob truly made us feel like they cared about us and how we felt about the final product. During our wedding, we were so happy with their team. They were all kind and friendly. Nicole even helped me when I had a dress incident which is totally not part of their job description! But that's the type of people they are- willing to go above and beyond for their clients. We truly could not have been happier with Dream FX Media. They also sent us our sneak peek photos literally the day after the wedding, and sent us our highlight/instagram videos AND 600+ edited photos within one month! When I chatgpt'd how long it would take, it said on average 3-6 months. When I tell you Dream FX Media was working overtime, they were (sorry Nicole and Rob). But the videos came out BEAUTIFUL. And the photos were magical. I can't explain it, but both the highlight video and photos just brought me back to the day of my wedding and ALL of the feelings I felt. They captured the entire day- getting ready, our private vows, pre-photos with my family and bridal party, the ceremony, the reception- I mean everything, and looking at it all truly took me back to every moment. As a photographer myself, I know the importance of family photos and I wanted to find a photographer who could shoot film as well as digital (something that was hard to find in San Diego!) Once I decided I wanted Emily to take our family photos, I decided I wanted to also book a mentorship session with her. Reviewing our family photo experience: Emily was so communicative and helpful in working together to find the perfect spot to take our photos! We had rain forecasted on the morning of our shoot so we changed plans last minute and it was perfect! She also helped me decide on what outfits to wear and was just generally the best hype girl I could ask for! We chatted back and forth about my vision for our time together and I was just so excited for our photoshoot! I chose to add a film photography package and she shot TWO rolls of 35mm film during our session which is super impressive!! During our photoshoot she was so kind and calm and worked so well with our crazy almost-four-year-old and 7 month old! She captured my vision perfectly and I can't say enough good things about our time together!! Reviewing my mentorship experience: I really value continuing to learn from other photographers whenever I can and I knew Emily had experience in underwater photography - something I have been interested in but have been too chicken to try. I'm NOT a diver by any means but Emily was so helpful in choosing a spot that wasn't super hard to swim out to and even bringing snorkle gear and fins for me to use! I brought my 35mm film underwater camera and she taught me how to use her underwater housing for her digital camera. I also need to mention -- as soon as we got in the water, there was a freaking sea turtle right right there!! (We gave it plenty of space but OMG SO COOL!!) After playing around in the water and learning how to get some cool shots (it's waaay harder than it looks!!) (& she found us the cutest couple to model for us!!) we hopped out and she showed me how she would edit the RAW photos and gave me all her tips and tricks to continue to build my business. Here's the best part: a few days after our mentorship she sent me THE BEST recap email. She included everything we talked about the whole day: gear recommendations, poses for underwater, how to get more inquiries, tips for editing underwater photos, literally everything we talked about. (Which was AMAZING because I wasn't able to take notes and I immediately forgot everything we talked about as soon as we got home LOL.) All in all, Emily was such a kind and thoughtful person to work with. Disappointing and disorganized experience We took our kids…read moreto take photos with Santa at Ka Makana and made an appointment for 3:25 PM. Despite having a scheduled time, we weren't seen until close to 4:00 PM. There was no clear organization in the line appointments and walk-ins were mixed together, and walk-ins were being taken before those with reservations. When our appointment time had already passed and we stepped forward to ask when we would be seen, we were criticized by others in line, which was uncomfortable and completely avoidable with proper line management. The most disappointing part was the actual interaction with Santa. There was little engagement with the kids, they weren't asked what they wanted for Christmas. This was especially frustrating since the reservation form specifically asks what your child wants for Christmas. What's the point of including that information if it's never used? We made an appointment expecting a smoother process and a more magical, personalized experience for our kids. Unfortunately, neither happened. Definitely not what we expected, especially during the holidays.
