WHAL offers great classes for youth and adults, for beginners and experts. There are also lots of awesome showcases of locals' work - including some of my own photos once or twice - of different media. They always have a nice opening reception - often with free food and drink - which is a really nice touch and a way to meet others. Separately, I have also come here for a few mostly food events, like the CT Eats Out supper club inaugural event. I heard that they also have done photography showings in the past. The venue itself is a tad tough to find just going by google maps, but once you realize where it is, parking is super easy. The council supports dance, visual arts, theater, music, public art projects and organizes the city's annual Taste of Hartford (which I'm all about!). Philip Greenwood goes over safety procedures and proper technique. He helps you every step of the way to assure you pull end up with a beautiful glass paperweight. You choose your colors, pick from a few designs and get busy. About 20 minutes later you're done. Then Peter takes the vet and properly cools the glass and polishes the base. Just understand you don't leave with the finished product. You need to come back the next day to pick up your masterpiece. I'm sure Peter will mail it to you if nece$$ary. Also note this is not a walk in experience. You need to call ahead and make a reservation. Peter has a couple of sweet dogs on the premises, so if you have a fear of dogs be forewarned. For about $48 you have a one of a kind experience and something you can be proud to display. Peter is kind. Patient. Friendly. And extremely gifted. If you can't tell, this is a highly recommended adventure!!

I opted to make a glass flower, while my Fiancé made a paperweight. The process of creating our pieces was performed smoothly, as the owner Peter was super helpful and gave clear instructions - if there was any trouble or questions, he reacted promptly. In all, I really enjoyed my experience here and would love to revisit to create another piece to add to my decor.

(That building's name is way too long.) And there were a few elderly volunteers who gave us about an hour long talk on the history of industry in New Britain. I learned that more hardware has been produced and distributed from New Britain than any other city in the United States. So it's interesting that all the other places (e.g., Chicago, Cleveland, St. Louis, Philadelphia) are more well-known that New Britain.

It is on the first floor of a building that houses a college. You have to ring the bell on the outer door to be let in. Then it is down the first hall on the right. We walked in the room and it is filled all sort of displays. After a few minutes Karen came out of her office and asked if we wanted a tour. She gave us about a 45 minute tour of all the displays. She has so much information. She also answered all of our questions. The experience wouldn't have been the same without her tour. I am glad we got her time. There is no fee but a place to give a donation. Karen gave us her card to send her an email and pictures of things we may own that has been made in New Britain. If in the area, I would stop buy and learn how much New Britain has done for America. An enjoyable place to visit.
