I preface this review by stating it's not about the quality of the makeup or hair services - which were actually fine, but about business practices. This review won't come as as surprise either, because I'm more or less copying my emails verbatim. I contracted one of Julie's artists for an engagement shoot and she was fantastic, so I wanted to book her for my hair and makeup for my wedding. A contract was signed and non-refundable deposit paid. Fast forward several months later and I find out that my HMUA is pregnant and her due date is shortly before my wedding. Naturally, I was concerned and didn't want to risk not having an artist available so I reached out to find a replacement. Julie kindly offered to help me find replacements, and I had asked for a free makeup trial because it's a new artist and like any bride, I want to make sure they are prepared to do what I want for my wedding day. My original artist did a stellar job with my makeup, so I wasn't expecting to do another makeup trial. I have email correspondence dated shortly after booking, that I would only need a hair trial prior to the wedding so this cost was expected. She said a free makeup trial was not possible but could offer a 15% discount at $106. The hair trial was also $125. Because I didn't have a preview session contract, I was not within grounds to request a free trial. Like many other brides, my engagement shoot WAS my preview session. As a customer, I thought this was incredibly unprofessional. Unforeseen changes from a business side should be a cost borne by the business, not the customer. Julie would not budge on the cost of the makeup trial. Although the 15% discount was appreciated, $106 is still a hefty price to pay when I was not expecting to pay anything. Because of this interaction, I would caution others to book with this company. If you find yourself in a situation like mine, where her artist backs out for an emergency, YOU will be expected to pay for additional trials if a preview contract is not already in place. I was clearly distressed and disappointed that I couldn't have my original artist and that should have been enough to comp a single makeup trial. I can't believe I had to spend extra money and time on this - trials only take place on weekdays and I work a normal 9-5, so I needed to take a day. Imagine if I DIDN'T like the new artist? What then? Would I have had to keep paying for more trials simply because my artist had to back out? Hair and makeup is supposed to be a fun part of a wedding and the terrible customer service I experienced put a huge damper on that aspect. I was put in a pay-twice-or-risk it situation and locked into a contract for the wedding date, so she really put me between a rock and a hard place. I hope that other brides seek services elsewhere. read more

Working with Julie was a total breeze, I would recommend her to anyone for makeup! I was searching for a makeup artist for the wedding and stumbled upon Julie's page. I am typically a very low-maintenance type, I don't typically wear makeup during the week, so I just wanted to look like an enhanced version of myself. And, budget friendly was a MUST! Upon first interaction with Julie, I was really amazed by her professionalism. She was ON IT. Count on prompt, detailed responses. She is very open and honest about her product and what my experience with her would be like. She has you fill out a consult form and send looks of makeup you'd like. I was really impressed by the detail- allergies, what your skin type is like, etc. She was also very conscious of my budget and worked with me for what I was looking for. Anyway, we did a trial for the engagement shoot, and spent some time going over looks and trying out shades that worked for my skin. Julie spent SO much focused time on me for my trial. We had a lot of fun working together as she is very easy to get along with. Julie's esthetician background influences her focus on skin. I love how she "pampers" the brides with a special mask before applying the makeup. It really makes your skin glow once all the makeup is done. I've never had my skin look so good! After seeing the engagement photos, I loved the natural look, but wanted a more dramatic look for the wedding. I trusted that she would nail it and she totally did. She made my eyes pop exactly how I wanted them to! I save the best two things for last: 1) We were at the wedding venue from 1:00 pm until 10 pm on an 85 degree day. I spent the entire night after dinner (about 6-10 pm) dancing. So imagine the toll that would take on my makeup. There was a photo taken of me right after and my makeup STILL looked in credible after all that sun and dancing! That was what really sold me on Julie. Not only is the initial product good, but it STAYED good the whole night despite the "wear and tear". That was my biggest "WOW" factor. 2) After the wedding... keep in mind this was well AFTER the wedding. I remembered "hey, Julie knows skincare, maybe she can give me some advice". I sent her a quick email asking about her favorite products and what my skin care goals were, and, in total Julie fashion, I get an incredibly helpful and detailed response for how to take care of my skin! I took some branding pictures for my business and needed help me with hair and makeup. I follow and love someone who does amazing makeup but she was booked that day. I searched for someone who could do both because I wanted to simplify the process for myself as this was my first time doing these type of photos. I'm new to LA so I reached out to a few people I found on yelp and Julie made it easiest form the beginning. For one, she is super quick to respond, and this is true throughout the process. I recently hired Julie for my engagement party and she was so great! I had a two part day which required Julie to help me during both the morning and evening (a very, very long day), and do the make up and hair for my family as well. Wow, I'm so glad I met Julie! I contacted her through yelp, and she was very professional and organized. Once I was able to book a time with her, she had me fill out some forms for what I wanted for my hair and makeup. The process was so easy that I made sure she was available for other dates, especially since she takes Venmo which is super convenient. Hiring Julie was one of the BEST decisions I made for my wedding day. She was absolutely amazing. Throughout the process she helped me figure out exactly how I wanted to look for the wedding. I am African American with darker skin my mom has light skin and my maid of honor had a more medium tone. The tricky thing about weddings is that your makeup needs to be heavy enough for pictures but not overdone so that you look weird in person. My husband was concerned that I would look overdone.
